Bailey's pov
For a guy who was limping he sure freaking walks fast!
Kaleb had already got to the double doors before I even caught up to him. But you can't blame me, I had to run down the bleachers and across the field! I never claimed to be athletic.
He walked into the the building and my quick footsteps turn into a sprint. I huff by the time I got to the door and pushed it open. He's not far up ahead and it almost seemed like he was slowing down.
" Kaleb!" I called out, rushing over to him. He stops but doesn't turn around. I am panting when I finally catch up to him, worried a bit when he stays silent.
" Are you okay? " I whispered, clutching my back as I eyed the side of his face. He nod and continued walking forward.
My brows furrowed. Just a nod?
Is he seriously going to act cold now when I am genuinely worried about him?
I followed after him silently, concerned that if I said another word we'd be arguing....but I did want to make sure he was okay. He took a nasty tackle and clearly got a strain or something.
I chewed on the inside of my cheek as I just followed after him. He enters the nurses office and we caught her just in time. She was packing up her stuff but when she sees Kaleb she rushes over to him. Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
" What did you do this time?" Nurse Charles scowled, her grey brows drawing in a pinch of concern as she helped Kaleb to the bed. He sits down, his eyes refusing to look at me. Yet I am glad he didn't tell me to leave.
" I think I strained it a bit."
She sighed and told him to remove his shoes and socks. I find myself drawing closer, wanting to be near him.
He winces, pulling the socks off his feet. His ankle is a bit red.
Nurse Charles hummed and inspected his foot, nudging her glasses on her nose while leaning closer to get a better look at his ankle.
" Will he be okay?" the worried question came from me as I peered down at Kaleb's ankle.
Nurse Charles glanced at me and smiled. " It doesn't look too bad. Icing it down will help."
" Like you care," Kaleb suddenly snorted, looking anywhere but me, but I knew his words were directed at me.
" Beg your pardon?" Nurse Charles wrenched back in shock, seeming to think his words were directed at her.
Kaleb shook his head. " Not you," his head lift and his eyes pinned me. "Her."
I felt like I'd just been slapped across the face. Kaleb's words stung and made my chest feel tight.
" Of course I care." my brows furrowed, wondering when did I ever give him that idea that I didn't care about him. Even though we never saw eye to eye I always cared for Kaleb.
He rolled his eyes. " Since when? You made it clear you didn't."
I staggered back a little, feeling like his words were arrows to my heart. I clench my bag and blinked.
Nurse Charles glanced between us, clearly sensing the tension, but she wisely chose to focus on Kaleb's injury. " I will get the ice, you two stay right here. I will be back soon." She stood up and walked away, pulling the curtain around us.
When the door opens and closes, we are left in an uncomfortable silence. Kaleb had gone back to avoiding my gaze and I had gone back to chewing the inside of my cheek.
After a few moments of the uneasy silence, I could no longer bear it any longer. " How can you ever think that I do not care about you Kaleb?"
Kaleb eyes shot to mine and I held my breath when I saw the swirl of anger. " Why would you care about a guy who you rather die than ever touch?"
I flinched, my words from that night haunting me in the flesh.
Kaleb mocked. " I don't know Bailey, this indicates that you don't care about me."
My gaze dropped to his chest, the shirt clung to his skin. " You're wrong, I didn't mean it in that way and you know it, " I said softly, my voice trembling slightly.
I lift my gaze back to him, to see him glare at me. " I was talking about what we had done," I looked away, flushing. " I never meant to make you feel like I didn't care."
" You talk yet like a coward you refuse to look me in the eye and speak." Kaleb taunted, his voice laced with hurt and anger.
His anger infuriated me. Here I was caring about him and he was looking for every little thing to argue with me. Why was he even mad about this! He never had a problem ignoring girls after he had screwed them before.
His words had struck a nerve and my frustration flared before I can stop it. " What do you really want from me Kaleb!"
His eyes narrowed. " I told you that night what I want Bailey."
You. He said he wanted me. For the night.
That didn't mean forever.
I scowled. " Right, to add me to your long list of girls you've conquered."
Kaleb looked angry by my words and voiced it out. " Do you really think this low of me?"
" You never gave me a reason to think otherwise! You've treated girls like shit. Fuck them, use them and toss them to the side. You barely spare them a glance afterward. Mira and I always had to clean up your mess!" I barked, breathing roughly.
I blinked, frustration anger and pain making it hard to hold back my tears. " I don't get why you won't let this go. Why can't things go back to how it had been between us? " My lower lip tremble as I looked at him.
Suddenly Kaleb reached over and since I was not far from him, he successfully gripped my wrist and tugged me to him. I landed on his lap and gasp as he shifted me to straddle him. I didn't make much effort to move off him.
He peered at me with an angry glare. " Because you're not the other girls Bailey! Goddammit, you're going to make me lose my mind." He snapped and slammed his lips on mine.
