Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 98

Everett almost thought he must've misheard her. Turning to face Selena, he couldn't help but let out a mocking laugh. "Selena, are you out of your mind with greed? You seriously think your cooking is worth that much?"

"Why not? Since you're so insistent on me doing it, I get to name my price. I'm asking for ten grand. You can always pass if you think it's not worth it. I might just order you some takeout instead. Consider it my good deed for the day." True to her word, Selena grabbed her phone, opened the app, and started scrolling, ready to order him the messiest, most despised barbecued food.

Everett's patience wore thin as a light sheen of sweat appeared on his forehead. He strode over, snatched the phone from her hand, tossed it onto the bed, and scooped her up. "Alright, ten grand it is. Let's see what kind of gourmet feast you can whip up."

...

After a short stint in the kitchen, under Everett's watchful gaze, Selena emerged with a bowl of pasta and set it down in front of him.

Everett glanced at it, immediately recognizing that the pasta was just briefly boiled in plain white sauce. He hadn't really expected Selena to churn out a meal worth ten thousand, but her lackluster attempt did amuse and frustrate him. With a disdainful shove, he pushed the bowl away, his dark eyes locking onto Selena as she sat across from him. "Not even some meat, Selena? Where do you get the nerve to ask for ten grand? Are you planning to hit it big with scams after the divorce, huh?"

Selena was baffled. She mentally docked a few points for his cheekiness before responding, "You should be grateful there's even pasta to eat. This was leftover from dinner-for the pigs tomorrow."

It was actually freshly made, but he was asking for it with his attitude.

Everett was in disbelief. The pasta was not freshly made and were leftovers meant for pigs? All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.

"Selena, you're serving me pig food?"

He was the son of the Bennett family, CEO of Bennett Corporation, the youngest billionaire on the Forbes list, always the center of attention, and she dared to treat him like this? Selena, unfazed, shrugged. "This is it. Take it or leave it. I'm not that desperate for your ten grand." She stood up, ready to take the bowl back to the kitchen.

Her wrist was suddenly caught, and she turned to see Everett say coldly, "Did I say I wouldn't eat it? Put it down."

Selena raised an eyebrow. "Money first."

Everett raised his eyebrows in question.

"I'm worried you might not pay up."

Everett, seething, pulled out his phone, his fingers rapidly tapping the screen until a transaction success notification appeared.

He thrust the screen toward Selena, gritting his teeth. "Happy now?"

Selena's face lit up with a grin. She placed the bowl back in front of him, adding sweetly, "Enjoy your meal, sir."

Everett shot her a look before

picking up the fork and trying a

mouthful of the pasta. He had a little

taste. The pasta was bland, something he'd normally turn his nose up at. However, he didn't put the fork down, instead going for a second bite.

Selena was bored without her phone. She had to wait on him to finish so her grandmother and

Marian wouldn't stumble upon them, so she rested her chin on her hand, her gaze inadvertently fixed on Everett.

And in that moment, she was taken aback.

were always impeccably graceful, a delight to the eyes. His etiquette seemed to be part of him. No matter how hungry, he was always composed, slow, and deliberate. In their three years of marriage, she had shared countless meals with him, all without exception.

Yet now, he was devouring the food with an unexpected ferocity...
