Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 94

No wonder Selena, with her usually sky-high standards, couldn't stop singing his praises and was completely smitten.

Everett's features were strikingly handsome. His well-structured physique was further accentuated by the tailored black suit he wore. He radiated an air of noble elegance that was downright captivating. With his presence and aura, it was clear he was a cut above the rest. Grace smiled warmly and said, "It's great to have you home. Everyone, please sit down. No need to stand around." She then turned to Marian and added, "Could you pour another cup of coffee for our guest?" "Of course, ma'am."

Dinner was still a little while away, and after the earlier tense situation, the atmosphere was a bit awkward, especially with Everett, who naturally sported a cold demeanor, sitting there looking like he'd rather be anywhere else. Grace found it impossible to engage in casual conversation with him as she could with Callum.

She was keen to chat with Callum, but with her grandson-in-law right there, she felt it was best not to be overly enthusiastic, leaving her a bit stuck. So, she chose to keep quiet.

Everett was not one to start conversations, and Callum, usually easy-going and chatty, was oddly silent, too. It was as if everyone had hit the mute button, and the vibe in the room cooled considerably.

The usually vibrant Grace seemed noticeably deflated. Seeing this, Selena couldn't take it anymore. She stood up, pulling Everett along with her. "Gran, Callum, you two have a chat. I need to have a word with Everett outside."

The mansion had a sprawling backyard where Grace liked to garden and keep animals. Selena led Everett in that direction.

A breeze carried the pungent smell of manure, making Everett visibly cringe and refuse to go any further. Selena glanced at him with a hint of scorn, turned around with her arms crossed, and looked up at him, getting straight to the point. "When did you get here?" Hearing this, a shadow crossed Everett's face, and his voice dripped with sarcasm as he replied, "Right when everyone was saying how perfect you and another man were for each other. A match made in heaven!"

Selena fell silent. He had heard everything.

"Selena, didn't Derick tell you I was coming home to pick you up?"Property © NôvelDrama.Org.

"He did."

"Then why didn't you wait for me?" Everett stepped closer, his voice cold with accusation.

Selena forced a smile. "I waited, but when I didn't see you, I figured you weren't coming back. I didn't want to miss my flight."

Her nonchalant attitude only fueled

Everett's anger. His gaze was icy. "You waited? Ava said you left right after eight o'clock, so you were not willing to wait even a second longer. And why didn't you just call me? Is it really that hard to make a phone call?"

Selena had tried to stay calm, but his words set her off. Every time he bailed, she was the first to call, hoping for an explanation, only to end up humiliated. Either he didn't pick up, was busy, was with another woman, or had Derick brush her off.

Did she used to seem so desperate? She had always known what the outcome would be, yet she would still call.

Everett scoffed, concluding, "Selena,

you didn't really want me to come, did you?" He even glanced towards the living room as he insinuated, "My being here is an inconvenience to you, isn't it?" en FindNovel

Damn it. He was the one who was late and yet had the audacity to imply it was her fault! Selena's hands, hanging by her sides, clenched into fists, shaking with anger.
