Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 86

Joy nodded. "Yeah, I'm afraid so."

"I can't go on anymore. Just find a nice spot and bury me," Selena said, her spirit completely crushed.

Seeing her like this, Joy tried to lift her spirits. "Hey, at least it was Callum who found you. He's not the type to spread gossip. Your secret's safe with him, no worries. You can still salvage your reputation." Selena forced herself to shake off the gloom and got up to get ready for the day.

Joy had work, so Selena didn't ask for a ride. Instead, she called a cab to take her back to Moon Bay.

During the ride, she kept glancing at her phone, torn about whether to reach out to Callum. The embarrassment was too overwhelming, and she couldn't face him.

Oh well, she thought, one step at a time.

When she got back to the villa, she stumbled in, her head throbbing from the hangover and lack of sleep. She just wanted to crash and catch up on some rest.

But a deep, stern voice came from the direction of the living room. "Selena, finally decided to come back, did you?"

Selena stopped dead in her tracks. She turned to see Everett, his face stormy, seething with anger.

She blinked a few times, her mind snapping back to reality. This was supposed to be her line! Was he trying to get the jump on her?

Everett closed the distance in a few strides, his eyes cold as ice. "Where were you?"

Meeting his gaze, Selena's lips curled into a smirk. "None of your business!"

"Selena!" Everett's expression darkened. "Our agreement clearly states no overnight stays out. What if someone had snapped a photo?"

'Oh, so we're playing the contract card now?' she thought.

Selena let out a bitter laugh. "The contract also says we're supposed to act like a loving couple. So why weren't you worried about photos when you humiliated me at the wedding reception for Margot? Being such a hypocrite will catch up with you!" Everett frowned, insisting, "I didn't mean to embarrass you. It was just that her situation was urgent..."

Yeah, right. Smooth things over with the mistress and then come up with excuses. What a player.

Selena cut him off, uninterested in hearing more about his fling with Margot. She didn't want to sully her ears with it.

"I crossed a line yesterday. You're

doesn't matter whether you took her to the hospital or a hotel."

With a sarcastic smile, she added, " e couldn't control you when I was your wife, and now that we're on the brink of divorce, as your soon-to-be Wife, I definitely won't."

Back in the day, Selena played the role of the forgiving, virtuous wife, but secretly, she would fume whenever women flocked around him.

Everett used to find her irritating,

pretentious, and high-maintenance. Now, he felt uneasy seeing her detached and distant, clearly drawing lines. He almost missed her old dramatic self.

Unable to resist a jab, he sneered, "You're quite the generous wife, Selena."

Unfazed, Selena replied, "Thanks for the compliment."

With that, she brushed past him and headed upstairs to her room.

Her phone had died the night before, so she plugged it in to charge. As soon as it powered on, a call came through.

Seeing the caller ID, Selena quickly answered, her voice brightening, "Grandma."

"Selena, dear, your parents' memorial is coming up in a few days. Will you be coming this year?" Grace's voice was as warm and gentle as always. "Of course, I'll be there."

"And this year, will your husband be joining you?"Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.

The smile on Selena's lips faded instantly.
