Chapter 183
Selena couldn't help but close her eyes.
In the next moment, the sound of Jimmy's mouth being silenced was followed by the unmistakable thud of fists meeting flesh. She couldn't see it happening, but her hearing sharpened, and she could almost picture every punch Everett threw at Jimmy. Everett was a Muay Thai expert with an impressive collection of trophies to prove it. Selena had witnessed his skills before. His punches were swift, powerful, and precise.Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.
Everett hadn't fallen for any of Jimmy's nonsense and had taken it upon himself to give him a lesson... all for her.
Selena's heart raced wildly.
After a pause, she felt Everett step in front of her, his voice a bit rough around the edges. "Selena, do you want to get your own revenge?"
Selena blinked her eyes open.
A hint of a smile tugged at Everett's lips as he moved behind her, gently holding her, his fingers tilting her chin forward.
Jimmy was a mess, gasping. His earlier sly demeanor was completely gone. Two bodyguards held him up and brought him over to Selena.
Watching his ugly face, Selena recalled the awful incident that had plagued her nightmares for so long....
The fear in her eyes faded, replaced by a burning anger. She swung her fist hard, landing it squarely on Jimmy's face. It felt like the punch shattered her nightmare, scattering it away.
With a simple wave of Everett's hand, the bodyguards got the message and dragged the three troublemakers away.
Everett wrapped his arm tighter around Selena, resting his head on her shoulder. His warm and soft breath brushed against her neck as he spoke. "Have the horrible reminders of that night gone?" Selena shivered, her heart racing even faster.
He had seen right through her, understanding her struggle. That was why he brought her back here, to give her the chance to face Jimmy herself.
He knew that some wounds needed a personal touch to heal.
If he wanted, Everett could have easily dealt with Jimmy without all this fuss, but he knew that wouldn't have eased her mind.
She was moved. Selena's hand clenched and then relaxed as she softly murmured, "Thank you."
He had promised her closure and delivered, going above and beyond what she had expected. The outcome had been slightly different from what she had imagined.
She had assumed this mess was
somehow linked to Margot, but if
Margot had been behind it all, a coward like Jimmy would have spilled the beans after such a beating. en
Maybe... she was just overthinking things...
As her mind wandered, Everett's voice cut through her thoughts, "I've got to take you somewhere."
Half an hour later, Selena found herself standing at the base of a massive Ferris wheel with Everett.
The place had been prepped in advance, and they smoothly settled into one of the capsules as the Ferris wheel began its ascent.
The sprawling city of Newport slowly stretched out beneath them, glowing with vibrant night lights.
When they reached the top, the Ferris wheel paused.
Selena instinctively leaned against the window, gazing down at the city, her forehead nearly touching the glass.
Sitting across from her, Everett watched her with a gentle look in his eyes. "Do you like it?"
How could she not?
When her parents were still around, they'd take her on the Ferris wheel every year for her birthday. She loved being up high, soaking in the view and the romance of it all.
The last time she saw her parents was on a Ferris wheel ride. She had been upset that they were leaving right after her birthday celebration and had let her frustration spill out. "You guys can leave and go do your work. I'll be just fine on my own. Don't bother coming back!
