Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 144

She didn't say a word. She just tilted her chin toward the lunchbox and said, "Let's eat."

Selena seemed to be unbothered, and Everett's lips barely curled into a smile. This strategy actually worked!

However, when he opened the lunchbox and saw the three disastrously prepared dishes, his expression turned sour.

Before he could voice his frustration, Selena leaned forward with a cheeky grin and said, "Didn't you just say you wouldn't criticize my cooking anymore? You'll eat whatever I make, right?" She picked up a fork, speared a piece of spicy chicken, and offered it to him. "Please, enjoy!"

Everett hesitated for a moment. He stared at the piece of chicken for a long moment before reluctantly eating it.

This time, it was Selena's turn to be surprised. She watched him contort his face in pain from the spice as he gulped down a large glass of water and coughed several times.

After regaining his composure, Everett looked at her with a gaze full of double meaning and said, "Selena, I'll finish these dishes. Let's not be upset about yesterday anymore, okay?"

Selena was too shocked to respond. She didn't even remember if she had agreed or not. As she left the Bennett Corporation, her mind was still buzzing.

Lydia was behind her, watching with jealousy. Just yesterday, Mr. Bennett and she had a big argument, yet today, it seemed like nothing had happened.

Hadn't Claire said that Mr. Bennett didn't even like Selena?

Why did it suddenly feel like they were just flirting, and Lydia was merely a pawn in their game.

No wonder Selena didn't take her seriously. She even had her friend Joy insult and mock her.

The resentment in Lydia's eyes deepened, her fists clenching tightly. She couldn't let this go. She was determined to win over Mr. Bennett, to become his woman, and to put Selena in her place!

Lydia pulled out her phone and dialed a number. As soon as the call connected, she said tersely, "I want that drug. Name your price!"

...

In the days that followed, Everett kept his promise. No matter what Selena cooked or how it tasted, he never complained and ate it all.

He often stayed at Moon Bay, but mostlt he slept in the spare room or the study, and would occasionally climb into her bed just to hold her. He never crossed any lines, though his boner made her uneasy. Selena didn't know what he was planning, but if this peace could last until they divorced, it would be one of his few acts of grace.

Today marked the end of their

one-month agreement. After delivering today's meal, their deal would be over, and she wouldn't have to play delivery girl anymore. She could return to chasing big stories and making money.

So, she happily cooked a meal to Everett's liking, carefully plating it before setting off.

Just as she got out of the car, someone bumped into her, causing the lunchbox to fall and its lid to open slightly.

Frowning, Selena was about to scold

the person, but she saw his

apologetic face as he helped pick up the lunchbox, and she let it go after checking that everything was still intact. She advised him to watch

Bennett Corporation.

In the office, Everett noticed the effort put into today's meal. His lips curled up, his eyes hinting at deeper thoughts.

To avoid any misunderstandings, Selena explained, "I just wanted to end things on a good note."

Everett's smile deepened. "I didn't say anything."

Selena was taken aback. Well, it was the last day anyway!

She couldn't be bothered to argue, leaning against the sofa to scroll through her phone for the latest news.

After finishing the meal, Selena got

up to leave. Everett had a meeting later and was preparing to review some documents. However, he had only taken a few steps when a sudden, intense heat exploded within him, unmistakably a sign of being drugged.

Within seconds, sweat beaded on his forehead, veins throbbing visibly, an urge no amount of self-control could suppress.

His gaze flickered to the remains of their meal on the coffee table, his eyes darkening with tumultuous emotions.

Grabbing his phone, he dialed a number while striding out.

Around the hallway corner, suddenly, a soft, fragrant presence caught him off guard. Everett's body tensed instantly, and as he looked down, for a moment, he thought he saw Selena.
