Xavier spoke, "Indeed, we can discuss the compensation later. Speaking of which, we have some connection with Dr. Deanna as well."
Old Hughes looked at Deanna and then at them, somewhat surprised. "Oh? You know each other?"
Xavier smiled and explained their encounter, "Well, Mr. Mercer and I were in a car together when we had a little traffic dispute with Miss Jones on the road. Our cars collided, and that's how we met. Little did we know that Miss Jones was such a skilled doctor."
Mentioning this incident brought about a slightly awkward atmosphere.
Xavier turned to Deanna and spoke earnestly, "Miss Jones, regarding the car accident, we won't pursue it any further and won't ask for any compensation from you. In fact, if possible, we would like to hire you as Mr. Mercer's personal doctor. You can name your price."
Lance remained silent, which meant he agreed.
Deanna was taken aback, not expecting things to develop this way.
It was too sudden, and she hadn't thought about all of this. Her mind was a bit chaotic.
But now she had to respond.
She instinctively spoke, "I can't accept being called skilled. If I were truly skilled, I wouldn't be living such a difficult life."
Her words were both modest and self-deprecating.
Given her current destitute state, how dared she claim to be a skilled doctor?
However, her mention of a "difficult life" seemed like a polite refusal.
"If Miss Jones is dissatisfied with our offer, don't hesitate to name your price," Lance finally spoke, and it was the first time Deanna heard him speak.
His voice was pleasant, deep, and maic, like the low whisper of a Siren, captivating and matching his stunning face.
Deanna pondered his identity. This man seemed wealthy and influential; his background was immeasurable.
If she were to accept their offer for the sake of the hundred thousand dollars and failed to cure him properly, she would bear responsibility and repay more than a hundred thousand dollars.
The best way would be to repay the money and sever ties with them, living her own simple life.
Thinking this through, she politely expressed her refusal, "I know my own abilities. I don't have the capability."
With two rejections in a row, Old Hughes could tell that she was unwilling.
"Anna, if you're unwilling to treat him, can you tell us why?" He persisted, wanting to fight for Lance. Ancient medical art was no ordinary skill. she were willing to help him, regardless of whether she could cure him completely, it would definitely improve his physical condition significantly.
"I'm not skilled enough as a doctor," she replied vaguely in front of them, unable to reveal the real reason.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
Old Hughes wanted to say
something more, but Lance's cold voice interrupted him, "If Miss Jones doesn't agree, then let's not force it anymore. Old Hughes, don't push it."
He glanced at Deanna with icy eyes. "Perhaps this time, Miss Jones was just lucky. If she truly possessed exceptional medical skills, why would she keep refusing?"
He didn't hide his distrust and sarcasm in his words. It was somewhat provocative.
Deanna raised an eyebrow and was about to say something when Old Hughes became anxious. He walked up to Lance and patted his shoulder.
"Kid, what are you doing? We finally found someone who can save you. Are you just giving up? Are you not afraid of death?"
Lance didn't speak but walked towards the bed.
He turned around to face Deanna
with a softer tone, "Girl, as they say, saving a life is a noble act.
Considering our business dealings the past two years and how I've taken care of your business affairs, could you do me a favor and save him?"
Deanna's heart softened as she thought about her relationship with Old Hughes over the years. He had indeed treated her well.
During their business dealings, he never hesitated to spend money and never took advantage of her.
Wasn't this because he pitied a woman with two children and wanted to take care of her?
If she refused now, it would probably hurt Old Hughes' feelings and make things awkward. It would also be inconvenient for her future business dealings here.
She hesitated whether or not to agree.
She glanced at Lance; his expression was cold and indifferent, not looking at anyone.
While he was casually sitting on the bed unbuttoning his black shirt, his collar was open wide.
With just a casual glance, she saw his chest, fair skin shining in the sunlight.
A colorful tattoo was etched on his chest, catching Deanna's eye-a striking eagle eye design.
