Marrying my high school bully

A visitor from the past

Lorraine

My phone beeped, then rang loudly, arousing me from my sleep. I stretched with a yawn, angry that someone had the audacity to disrupt my short time of rest.

Yea, sleeping was quite important to me because it was a means of escape from my ever unending problems. With drowsy eyes, I searched for my phone on the bed stand and checked who was calling.

The initial anger disappeared on seeing who the caller was. “Hello,” I greeted groggily and sat up, sighing and rubbing my eyes.

“How can the greatest model of all times be in bed by this time?” Bumpy teased me, while I imagined him smirking at the other end.

“Because it isn’t a crime for me to rest, Bumpy. Why are you disturbing me anyways? You just disrupted my peaceful sleep…” I whined like a baby and pouted my lips.

He chuckled this time then groaned like he just dropped off something really heavy.

“Are you alright?”

His reply was fast. “Yes, I am. I’m at the gym right now, giving those young girls a reason to keep coming here, but that’s not the reason I called.” His tone became serious.

All the traces of sleep disappeared as I listened intently to every word he said. “You can go on, I’m listening.”This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.

“A friend of mine who just started a lingerie brand needs a model. I know that you aren’t that popular yet, but I believe you can do it so I recommended you to him.” He announced.

I sprang up to my feet, my heart racing as it swelled with happiness. He recommended me for a model for a brand?

That was really a lot, considering the fact that I was new to the industry and a lot of people didn’t even know me. I was still building up my skill so I wasn’t really keen about it.

“Are you still there?” His deep voice jolted me from my reverie as I caressed my forehead.

“Y-Yes, I am… I was just overwhelmed by the news. I mean it felt a bit too much, knowing that you could do this for me.” I could hear my voice quivering but I managed to keep it confident.

He sighed deeply then a squeaky sound followed. “Look, Lorraine, I know that you are scared and all that, but this is one of the ways to grow your career. You have a beautiful body and a charming aura. You just have to be you and everything will fall into place.”

His beautiful words melted my heart as I could hear the sincerity in them. I would do it. Yes, I would, but there was just one problem.

“I’m under an organization, Bumpy, it would be wrong to keep it from them.”

“That’s not a problem. I’ve already sent a letter to your coordinator and if they care about your growth, they would approve it. For now, just focus on getting ready.” He informed me as I hugged my pillow tightly, my body giddy with excitement.

My breathing had become rapid as I didn’t know what to say any more. I wished he was present so that I could snag him up and thank him properly for supporting my dreams.

I think I knew what to do. “You know what, Bumpy, why don’t we go for a drink tonight? I’m not really doing much.” I suggested, hoping that he would agree.

“What about your husband?”

Then it occurred to me that I was still married to someone that was never there for me. “He’ll deal with it. Don’t worry about him.” It was time to start living my life the way I should.

I couldn’t stay caged in while he was having his best life out there.

“Are you sure?” Uncertainty rang hard in his voice and I couldn’t blame him.

After what Dexter displayed some nights ago, anyone would be scared. I was happy with Bumpy’s response because he felt quite threatened.

“A hundred and one percent. It’s my treat.” I assured him.

“Alright, I’ll be ready by six so I can pick you up. Take care of yourself.”

The line went off and I couldn’t deny that my morning had been made. I got up and stared at myself in the mirror. A different version of me reflected-one I was proud of.

Then I remembered something that Stefan said about watching my weight. I hardly put on weight but that didn’t mean that I shouldn’t maintain it.

Feeling all bubbly and charged up for the day, I took the key to Dexter’s gym to start working on my fitness. I was going to give the lingerie brand the best of myself. They aren’t even ready for it.

***********

It was some minutes past five and I’d already gotten ready for the outing. I chose a black bodycon V-neck dress, which had puffy sleeves and the length of the dress stopped right on my mid thigh.

I left my hair to flow down my back since I didn’t have the energy to style it. Staring at my reflection from the mirror once again, I wondered if I was actually going on a casual outing once again or I was trying to impress him.

I kept the first option imprinted in my mind, slung my silver shoulder bag on and stepped out in a matching ankle strap heel.

It felt great to look chic and wanted by someone, though deep down, I wanted it to be Dexter. I wanted him to believe that I never betrayed him but I wouldn’t do more than I’d already done.

He had to come to terms with the truth by himself.

I shoved away the thoughts of him into the far part of my mind and kept looking forward to seeing Bumpy. Victoria snorted as soon as I got to the living room but I ignored it.

She wouldn’t be given the chance to spoil my mood.

“Happy slutting!” She mouthed after I left the room.

As I opened the gate, I caught the sight of a black BMW that was already waiting in front of the house. Always punctual, I thought, and headed towards the car.

I knocked on the car window, surprised that he didn’t open the door yet. “Aren’t you going to let me in, Bumpy?” I chirped happily and immediately the window began to make a wheezing sound, going down gradually.

My fist hung in the air as my eyes locked in with the last person I expected to see.
