Eve’s POV

Rather than to apologize, What else can I do?

I bow my head a little and told them that I am sorry but looks like, they didn’t have my time.

I let them be then I returned to my seat… trying to concentrate on the monitor but Liam and Clara were still right there, embracing themselves inseparably.

“Come on” It was Clara who disengaged from him first.

“Didn’t you say that you were busy and I shouldn’t come see you yet?”Liam asked her and she smiled and tucked the fallen hair strand to the back of her ear.

” Just because.. I wanted to give you a surprise” Clara responded.

Liam wouldn’t stopped smiling, he held her hand and intertwined it with his.

“Look at you Clara, you are looking so pretty, I just can’t believe that you look really different and I… I..”He covered his mouth in astonishment… Sweet words couldn’t describe how he felt at that now. He just wanted to be in her arms again.

” You are not looking bad as well Liam..” Clara blushed.

“Oh, My bad! Come on in Babe” Liam led her the way into his office.

I gasped… ” Time to continue working” I told myself, then I resumed typing…

After a while, Liam and his girlfriend came outside, locked arms, laughing and they were happy.. I have never seen Liam this way because he acts like an arrogant scorner.

Liam locked his door, and as soon as they were beyond my sight. I sighed feeling free : I mean Liam is not gonna monitor me through his glass window anymore.

I quit typing, closed the files and rested my head on the table.

“Knock, knock” Someone suddenly knocked on my table..

Geez

“I am so sorry again..” I began to apologise even before looking up to see who it was. (I thought it was Liam)

Oh George.

“George right? what are you doing here again? ” I almost shouted at him but he chuckled and adjusted his eye-glasses.

“It’s recess this time” He said.

“Oh it is?”

“Yeah” He showed me his wristwatch.

I gleamed as I unzipped my purse to check if the credit card, Mr Maya gave to me the other time is still with me. I found it.

“Mr Liam is away with his girlfriend ” George said and I nodded..

I was already getting ready to leave the office when two staffs came in.. The other lady that gave me a file and another lady.

“Our usual cafeteria is only few distance away, let’s go have our lunch together. I am inviting you” The lady proposed.

“I was gonna take here there just before you guys came” George said and the other lady smirked.

“I need to kill this starvation and fatigue already ” I told them, picking up my purse and they led the way.

Writer’s POV

“Oh My God, it’s time for break” Liam exclaimed when he saw his workers entering the restaurant.

“Ohh” His girlfriend muttered.

“I didn’t know it’s almost lunch time. I’m sorry, can we move to somewhere else?” He asked her.

“No, Liam it’s fine” She said.

“Here’s your order Mr and Mrs, Bon appetite” A waiter announced as he arranged their meal on the circular VIP’s table.

“Thank you” Liam said to the waiter and the guy went his way.

They began to eat quietly; Liam fondled with her fingers, he ate slowly..

“Just say it out already. You are gonna swallow me with your gazes” Clara said after she noticed, Liam couldn’t get his eyes off here.

“There is a lot to say. I don’t know where to start from” He said.

“Same here Liam. I…” She paused; “I have a lot to tell you”

“How about I uhm.. pass the night at your place?” He asked her.

“No” She blurted which baffled him

“I mean…” She gave a short laugh, not to get him worried..

“I am busy” She said.

“You are always busy Clara. Same reason you gave for not picking recent calls”

“You don’t know Liam, I have been through a lot while you were away… I’m involved with a lot of things and it’s… it is gulping all my time” She stammered.

“I know you very well Clara, you’ve been a hard working and an ambitious woman ” She smiled and nodded.

“But don’t over work yourself love. Give yourself a break; so that we can have time for ourselves again”Liam said to her..   “I have missed you Clara and.. and I want more than just phone calls…” He added.

She grinned briefly. They continued eating..

Eve’s POV

They re-introduced themselves to me again; George, Maria and Daisy. Daisy was the girl who gave me some files earlier.. I could barely recognised them during the meeting this morning.. Anyways, we are already getting to know each other.

After we placed our orders and took our seat.. I spotted Liam and his girlfriend, they were only few distance away from us.

“Isn’t that Mr Liam?” Daisy pointed.

“And his girlfriend; what’s her name again?” Maria asked.

“Clara! Yes Clara” George replied them.

“How do you guys know her?” I asked..

“What, who doesn’t know Mr Liam and Clara. They have been together for a long time now unfortunately; distance cut them off” George said.

“But they are still together!” Daisy said.

“We actually thought it was over between them because the last time Liam came to the office, she never came visiting… you know there can’t be a gathering without gossip just like we are doing right now” I laughed at that statement.

“we all thought the long distance truly cut their relationship off especially when we saw you and him together this morning” George spoke.. I noticed Daisy blinked at him, so that won’t mention that..

“Aww… I can’t believe that Mr Liam is sort of trustworthy, can’t you see that he loves really hard?” Daisy said; he were looking at him. Indeed he is drawn with love…. It’s easy to spot that sudden joy and spark in his facial expressions.

Maria scoffed; “I remember when my boyfriend travelled to Nigeria, I lost him”NôvelDrama.Org exclusive content.

“He died?” My eyes almost bulged out of the sockets.

“Uhn, no, I lost him to another girl. He has moved on. We didn’t break up though.. We lost connections and when we met again, I found out that he already has another girlfriend.. Uugh!”

“I remember how you cried your eyes out” Daisy teased her.

“I don’t even want to remember that senero” Maria rolled her eyes.

The waiter came and served them their meals.

“Bon appetite” He said then went away.

“Eve, your bill’s on me” George told her. I smiled and told him “Thank you”

“Only Eve?!” Daisy shrieked

“Yeah. She is a newbie in our office and this is my small way to welcome her” George said.

“Uhnuhnn I can see that” Daisy gave a eye roll.

“Eve just be careful with George. He is only trying to flirt with you, don’t fall for his cunny care, he already has a serious girlfriend ” Maria added.

“No, I’m not trying to make her fall in love with me” George said.

“Who mentioned fall in love here?” Maria and Daisy questioned him at the same time and I giggled.

“You see Eve, George is similar to Maria’s ex boyfriend” Daisy said.

“Okay Daisy, Enough of talking about my ex boyfriend ”

“And both of you, Enough of talking about me” George said and we laughed at the same time.

We began to eat in silence but Daisy broke the silence again by asking me..

“So what’s the name of the higher institution you graduated from Eve?”

“Urrrh.. Well I…” I stammered and drank some water, so I won’t choke because I thought they won’t ask me that question… or not just yet.

“No, that’s not even the question I’ve been yearning to ask” Maria said.

“What.. what’s.. the question?” I asked Maria.

“How did you get to meet Mr Liam? I mean he brought you here in his car” She said.

“Exactly what I want to know too. Your job here must be by luck because I didn’t even receive any application letter recently and Mr Maya turned down former ones I transferred to him. So where did you come from Eve?” Daisy asked.

“She came from Heaven” George said; “Yeah Heaven. What happened to our table manners guys?”

“We are only asking a question. Did we not think that Mr Maya turned down every application letters because he wanted to manage the remaining available positions himself?” Daisy said.

“Maybe he was only looking at the gender when you forwarded all application letters to him” Maria suggested.

“What about the gender? ” Daisy asked but when Maria didn’t say anything, she continued. ” Well most of the letters came from older aged people while the younger ones were mostly male” Daisy said.

“That’s it!” Maria said and she came forward to whisper to us. “I heard, Mr Maya like young girls”

“What?” We exclaimed at the same time..

“As he made any advances towards you?” I pretended to be surprised as well.

“Uh, not at all” She replied.

“What about anyone of you.., has he.. errm… i mean.. any advances?” I stammered because I didn’t know how to arrange the question and I didn’t want it to be obvious that there is a reason why I was asking that question.

“No… i don’t think so. I only heard..” George interrupted her immediately.

“You see, it is only a mere rumour. Daisy, Maria… This is not what you should be telling Eve right now, you should rather ask questions like, do you love the office? do you like our company? do you like the meal here?”

They glared at him and hissed.

“Blah blah blah..” Maria mimicked him..

“Keep on pretending to be all nice and good” She said.

I laughed… “Yes I like it” I answered George questions, because I knew he was indirectly trying to ask me too.

I love these people company… Thanks to George’s cheerful or should I call it flirty behavior, I was able to ignore the problematic questions that they were asking me.

I continued to eat slowly, I wanted to glance at Liam again but he wasn’t there anymore; I looked around for him then I saw him walking out of the restaurant with his hand over his girlfriend’s neck.

I continued to stare at them till they were out of my sight. Okay, why do I even care?
