Take A Chance
Meanwhile, Alexander returned to the apartment he shared with Marissa. When he entered, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of emptiness that he couldn’t explain.
Was he missing her or just missed having someone around? He didn’t understand.Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
He had been so used to having Marissa around, with her chirpy attitude and gentle nature. Her absence had left a hole in his life, and he was at a loss as to how to fill it. He sat down on the couch and let his thoughts wander.
As he did, his mind turned to Jessie, and he couldn’t help but wonder what she was doing at that moment.
Was she thinking about him? Or was she wrapped up in her work, as she always seemed to be? He wished he could see her, to talk to her, to hear her voice. But he knew that was impossible since she gave him time to end his marriage contract with Marissa or they would break up.
He sighed and twitched his neck to the left and to the right, clearly exhausted from the day’s work.
He remembered when Marissa was here, she would have prepared dinner and he smiled.
Thinking about Marissa brought back a wave of nostalgia and melancholy. He remembered all the little things that she did for him, like leaving him a note on the fridge with a funny drawing, or making him breakfast in the morning before he went for an early morning meeting.
He missed those simple gestures, the little ways she showed her affection and care. He knew that breaking off the contract with Marissa was the right thing to do, but he couldn’t help but feel a sense of loss at the thought of never seeing her again.
Alexander was pulled from his thoughts by the sound of his phone ringing. He looked at the screen and saw that it was a call from Jessie. His heart skipped a beat as he answered the call.
“Hey, Alex,” Jessie’s voice sounded on the other end of the line. “How are you doing?”
Alexander cleared his throat before responding. “I’m doing alright, Jess. How are you?”
“I’m doing well,” she said. “I just wanted to check in and see how you were doing.”
He wanted to ask her what Jaime meant by she had a secret that she was scared to tell him. What could be the secret she was hiding from him?
There was silence between them as nobody said anything. A lot was obviously going on in their minds.
Both decided to ask each other questions but scared to.
“Um… is Marissa still living with you in the apartment?” she asked, breaking the silence between them on the phone.
Alexander felt a flash of anxiety at the question. He knew that his answer would determine how the rest of the conversation would go. He took a deep breath before answering.
“No, Marissa is no longer living with me,” he said, trying to keep his voice even. “She moved out a few days ago.”
There was a long pause on the other end of the line, and Alexander could practically hear Jessie thinking. Finally, she spoke again.
“So… are you and Marissa… I mean, are you still… together?” she asked hesitantly.
Alexander felt his heart pound in his chest. This was the moment of truth. He took a deep breath and chose his words carefully.
“Jess, I think we need to talk about some things,” he said, trying to keep his voice steady. “And I think it would be best if we did that in person. Can we meet up soon?”
There was another long pause, and Alexander felt like an eternity was passing before Jessie finally responded.
“Yes, I think that would be a good idea,” she said. “I’ll text you later to figure out a time and place.”
Alexander felt a wave of relief wash over him. At least she hadn’t hung up on him. They had a chance to talk things through.
“Thank you,” he said, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders. “I look forward to hearing from you.”
“Me too,” Jessie said, her voice sounding a bit lighter. “And… I’m glad you’re doing okay, Alex. I know this must be hard for you.”
“Thanks, Jess,” he said, grateful for her understanding. “I’ll talk to you soon.”
“Bye, Alex,” she said. “Take care of yourself.”
“Bye, Jess,” he said. “You too. And thanks again.”
After he hung up, he sat there for a moment, taking in what had just happened. He was grateful that he and Jessie were still on good terms, and that they would have a chance to talk through everything. But he couldn’t help but feel anxious about what the future would hold. He had a feeling that things were about to change, and he wasn’t sure if he was ready for that.
He leaned back on the couch and closed his eyes, letting the events of the day wash over him. He knew that whatever happened next, he would have to face it head on. And he was determined to do just that. He just hoped that he would have the strength to get through it all.
As he sat there, lost in thought, he heard a knock on the door. He opened his eyes and got up to answer it, wondering who it could be.
He opened the door and Anderson walked in.
“What are you doing here Anderson? It’s late.”
“Sorry to just show up unannounced,” Anderson said, looking a bit sheepish. “But I wanted to talk to you about something. It’s important.”
“Of course,” Alexander said, beckoning his friend inside. “What’s on your mind?”
“I’ve been thinking a lot about our conversation the other day,” Anderson said, looking serious. “And I think that you should go ahead with your plan of not giving Jaime the contract.”
Alexander looked at Anderson with a confused expression.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, you should take a chance with Marissa.” Anderson said.
