Chapter 85
We got back to the Summit without encountering the cops.
I was shivering from my rain-drenched clothes, so we took a hot shower and fucked in bed.
As we lay there afterwards, we talked…
And I opened up to him in a way I never had with anyone else.
He asked me why I’d freaked out when he’d told me he was in the Cosa Nostra…
And I told him about my father.
About being kidnapped.
About my father finding out I was into BDSM…
About him shaming me… slapping me… and disowning me.
Things got lighter when I revealed I’d known he was stalking me from the beginning.
His deflated reaction was adorable – like a five-year-old boy being told, no, he wasn’t the best baseball player who had ever lived.
Things got pretty insane a few seconds later, though, when I offered to let him borrow my gun for protection.
“Thank you,” he said, “but I need something else, too.”
“What?” I asked, figuring it would be something like a silencer.
“A block of plastic explosives,” he said. “C-4. Enough to blow up a car or kill everyone in a room.”
I stared at him in shock.
I had not been expecting THAT.
“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”
“I need to pose a serious threat to force Lau to give me back my family’s money, and that’s the only thing I can think of.”
I laid my head on his chest because I couldn’t look at him.
Roberto was…
He was fucking insane.
But…This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
Was he?
Lau was the most dangerous man I knew.
A gun wasn’t going to do shit. Han or his thugs would just kill him the second the gun came out.
Maybe it had to be that extreme…
You want to be free of Lau, right?
Maybe this is the only way to do it.
When I didn’t say anything or look at him, Roberto began to stroke my hair gently. When he spoke, I could hear the regret in his voice.
“Forget about it. I have you back – that’s all I want. I’ll take care of the rest somehow – ”
Fuck it.
“Alright,” I said.
He sounded shocked. “Alright, what?”
“I can help you.”
He put a finger under my chin and tilted my head up to look at him.
His eyes were loving and full of concern. “You don’t have to.”
“I know… but I will.”
“You have contacts that can get what I need?”
“Yes.”
I paused.
Do I do this?
If I’m going to do it, this is the moment.
“On one condition,” I added.
“What?”
“That you take me with you when you leave Hong Kong.”
He stared at me in disbelief. “You’d leave everything you’ve built here?! Your business – your entire life?!”
“Yes.”
And it was true. I would throw it all away if I could get away from Lau.
We had a long discussion about why I hadn’t left Hong Kong already.
I couldn’t tell Roberto the real reason:
Because Lau would never let me leave.
I was his pet… he liked me on his leash… and he would never let me go.
I couldn’t tell Roberto that because I was terrified of how he would react if he knew I worked for his enemy.
But if I helped him escape Hong Kong, and he took me with him, then what would it matter?
A tiny lie of omission –
That’s all it was.
As long as we escaped – together – that was the important thing.
But Roberto had one last surprise up his sleeve.
“Alright,” he agreed, “I’ll take you with me when I leave Hong Kong… but I have a condition of my own.”
“What?”
“That when I take you with me… you stay with me.”
Okay…
I hadn’t been expecting that…
But it was a very welcome surprise.
“That’s a condition I’ll gladly accept,” I said with a smile.
As we made love for the next two hours, I think I was the happiest I had ever been in my entire life.
I was with the man I loved…
And I was going to escape the man I hated.
Everything was going to be wonderful.
