Chapter Twenty-five
“Peter? are you sure you’re feeling okay?”
Amara was accompanied by Peter, she was doing what billionaires know best. Nope, sadly not shopping. She was actually working. Yep… as I said before, she’s the workaholic kind.
Anyway, back to our boss assistant combo. They were both taking the time from their suite and Matteo was letting them work from the hotel restaurant. Although Amara pouted for not being allowed in the lounge, but his excuse was that it’s not a working area, it’s too dark.
Though she knows that was probably not the main reason, and after their last argument she was letting him have his win. She was too sated and too pleasured to give a dam.
“I’m not as good as you, obviously. You seemed happy.” He replied while cruising his email, checking in for new updates for Amara.
“Wait, what’s that? Peter Darwin Andersen! don’t tell me that that’s a hickey?” Amara whispered excitedly then asked him the inevitable.
Peter lowered down his head, feeling embarrassed about the situation. He should be more professional, he was there for his boss, not for leisure, and obviously not for doing it with the hot guard.
“Boss! could you? I’m not… shit, okay… I was doing it with the hot bodyguard.”
“Oh. My. God. Peter! that’s a lot of hickeys! What are you guys thirteen?” she asked while smiling wildly at him. Then she called out the waiter and ordered them both some tropical cocktails.
“What? we’re in the keys! and we’re working, so give me some slacks…”
She carried on talking and listening to Peter talking about Paolo, but then he insists on getting back to work.
“You’re a really serious assistant, Peter. You really need to let loose sometimes.”
“Boss, you know me. I’ve been working for you since you’re still in high school. This is me relaxing on the job, you know how I get nervous for not doing more work done.”
Yes, Peter was a couple of years older than her. His father introduced him to her when he needed someone around her age to look after her whenever he couldn’t, and Peter was the perfect fit.
“Yeah, you’re one quirky assistant. You really need to get laid more… no! you did not!!!”
They were still talking and giggling when the waiter put down their drinks, and also a white envelope with Amara’s name on it. She was about to open the envelope, not thinking about anything out of the ordinary when Peter stopped her.
“Wait… no body knows you’re here. Don’t touch it, I’m calling Matteo.”
The underboss was to their table in less than ten minutes, Paolo came five minutes later.
“I’ve asked the guys the secure the hotel, they’re browsing at the CCTV footage right now. What’s in it?” Paolo asked and Matteo shook his head as a no.
“I can’t understand why you won’t let me see it when it’s addressed to me?”
“I will, I just need to check on it first. You two stay here. We got eyes on you here, you’ll be safe. We’ll be back in less than an hour.” Matteo told her and get Paolo to follow him. The two guys leave in a hurry and leave both of them wondering.
“Next time we’re opening it, my curiosity is killing me. Damn it, Peter!” she cursed while Peter was trying to calm her down.
“Amara, they know what they’re doing. They’ve been protecting us this whole time. I assumed they know what’s best. And we’ll find out in the next hour, we just have to be patient.”
She knows Peter was right, so she tried to calm herself down and put her curiosity aside by telling Peter to order them some coffee and start opening more work emails.
It was almost two hours later when the guys were back while Amara and Peter were busy with their laptops and a few paperwork.
“You’re really setting up camp, aren’t you?” Matteo asked when he saw that they have scattered their work all over the table.
Amara was still reading on the new vendor contract when she heard his voice. Then she calmly looked at her Rolex and gave him the icy glare.
For the last two hours, Peter was running around the hotel printing some unimportant office documents, buying notebooks, pens, basically trying his hardest to keep his annoyed boss busy. Peter tried to keep her mind off the real issue that she was dying to know.
“An hour you say?”
“It’s complicated.” He said sitting down and looking at both Amara and Peter seriously.
“Aren’t they all?” She replied impatiently.
“The message, it was a threat to your life. Apparently Antonio…”
She looked straight at him when Matteo mentioned his name. Paolo seated himself beside Peter, but his view was straight to Matteo.
The situation was getting more complicated, they thought that it was finished with them eliminating the Hamiltons. But now, Amara was being blackmailed. Saying that they have evidence that she had her stepfamily killed.
She was silent when Matteo gave her the message, Peter was shocked that he put his hand in hers trying to tell her that he got her back.
Amara looked at Peter and nodded at him, she was strangely quiet for the longest time. Matteo kept on talking about how the blackmailer was giving them a photo of both Amara and Peter in the same room as the Hamiltons. Then Paolo started telling them that he had looked at the photo and it appeared to be genuine, it was of the day that the Hamiltons were gunned down.
All were still discussing about the matter when Amara abruptly got up and leave their table. She didn’t say anything to their explanation. Matteo realized that she was silent the moment he mentioned Antonio’s name, her ex-boyfriend. The love of her life. He cursed on the inside, but follow the young beautiful billionaire back to their suite.

“Amara…”
“Matteo, please. Just this once?”
He could see her reddening eyes, he knew she was falling apart on the inside. And that she was trying to be strong in front of him.
“I’m not leaving you.”
Our Matteo, the brute underboss who has never been a man of words did one thing right at that exact moment.
He pulled her in into his bear hug, as she finally breaks down in his arms. The jealousy filled his chest and it made him hug her tighter. She was sobbing in his arms, she was shedding her tears for the love of her life.
The man who she thought loved her back.
Matteo keeps on rubbing her back and kissing the top of her hair. He didn’t dare to tell her the truth. He was afraid that she would break even more and he wouldn’t know how to handle her.
The truth.
The whole truth.
Leonardo had advised him to tell her, but he couldn’t. He couldn’t even try. He picked her up and lay her on the bed. She wouldn’t let him go, so he stayed with her until she stopped crying and finally falls asleep.
How the hell did I get into this mess?
