Chapter 1 Vivian's Nightmare
Chapter 1 Vivian's Nightmare
A loud creak from the door made her stop. She slowly closed her eyes and silently prayed that no one
heard it. After a few minutes of surveilling her surrounding, Vivian smiled and continue to open the
huge wooden door as she silently cursed on how hard to open their entrance door.
It was past two in the morning when she arrived from her friend's party. Although she remembered
being grounded the night before, she just snuck out without thinking of the consequences. Her parents
decided to ground her due to her mischief and expending too much. She already maxed out her credit
card twice in just a span of one month. But what can she do, she loves buying clothes and perfume and
bags and shoes. Basically aesthetics and those pleasing to her eyes.
When she finally opened the door, relief flashed allover her when the whole house was dark. Maybe
her parents are already fast asleep. There's nothing to worry about.
''Vivian Desiree Carter,'' A stern voice called.
She was stiffened when she heard her whole name called. Slowly she turned to the direction where it
came from and saw her mother sitting on one of the couch. Her mother was already wearing a
nightgown but still has all her jewelry dangling on her neck and ears. She noticed that they were pearls.
''You went out,'' her mother said. It wasn't a question nor a confirmation, it was a statement. ''Even if we
told you not to. Have you got no respect left for us, Vivian?'' A painful expression crossed her mother's
face.
Vivian turned to her mother and tried to console her. ``It's not like that Mom, I just wanted to party.'' She
reasoned out. She knows that her Mom listens to her, even with a lame excuse like that.
''You know that we have been very supportive of you, daughter.''
''Yes, I know mommy. That's why I know that you will understand me.''
Her mother sighed and looked at her straight in the eyes. ''And it's time that you be supportive of us in
return.'' Her mother told her.
Her forehead knotted and she looked at her mother in confusion. ''What do you mean, Mom?'' She
asked full of worry.
Her mother did not answer her right away but after a few minutes, hugged her and started to cry. Vivian
was alarmed, she was worried about her Mom that she was ready to call for her sleeping father or
sister but her Mom stopped her.
''Vivian,'' Her mother paused and then looked at her, ''We want you to marry Troy Callahan in place of
your sister.'' Her mother said without stopping. The sentences jumbled in her head and it took her few Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
minutes to figure out what her mother was trying to say.
She was shocked to the core that she went straight to the couch and sat.
''But Mom, Violet's the one marrying Troy. Why does it have to be me?!'' She reasoned out, trying her
hard not to panic.
When she heard the word marry, she felt fear. She was afraid to lose her beloved freedom. She does
not want to be tied down by someone. Not at that moment or any moment there after. She was happy
with the way she's living her life.
Her mother choked on her tears before joining her on the couch.
''Your sister doesn't love Troy.''
She felt pain.
''So do I! I barely knew the man. Why are you being so unfair?!''
Her mother's eyes turned icy cold. ''How can we be the one being unfair when all your life we have
given you everything that you've ever wanted.'' Her mother said, each word piercing her heart. ''We
have never asked you to do anything in return, and this Vivian, this is just a simple favor we are asking
from you.''
Her eyes started to water and tears streamed down her cheeks. She felt a heavy weight on her chest
as she tried to understand all the words her mother has said to her. But she couldn't fully comprehend
it, no matter how much she tries.
''Mommy please. . .'' She pleaded.
Her mother stood up and started to walk away. But she saw her glanced at her direction once more.
''Fix yourself Vivian. Your fiancé will be here tomorrow to meet you.'' Her mother said using a cold
voice.
She was left with no choice that night but to cry her heart out. How can she marry a man whom she
never even meet?
