Chapter 3 Who let you into this room
Realizing the absurd thoughts inside, Maxton West involuntarily stood up and walked towards Fairen Evert.
Seeing Maxton West step closer, Fairen Evert could not retreat, his back against the wall.
His fresh scent mixed with the man’s strong hormones swept towards her, he leaned down slightly and came up to Fairen Evert’s earrings.
Her ears quickly turned red as the faintest of breath sprayed against her ears.
However, Maxton West’s next move left Fairen Evert completely dumbfounded.
He placed his hand on Fairen Evert’s back and lifted her across the room and placed her on the other side of his large bed.
Fairen Evert was startled and immediately tried to get up, but her shoulders were held down by Maxton West, whose eyes were filled with red blood and written with complexity, “Can’t sleep, you sleep next to me.”
The tone of voice was strong and not in the least bit questionable.
Fairen Evert gritted her teeth and tried to argue with Maxton West when she saw him lift the covers and lie down, ready to fall asleep.
It seemed like he really just wanted her to sleep next to him as a decoration to make him feel more at ease.
Fairen Evert had to sit frozen in place and not move.
Maxton West’s furrowed brow gradually relaxed and his breathing evened out, and he seemed to be really asleep.
As the night wore on, Fairen Evert fell asleep, half-sitting against the soft back of the bed.
When she woke up in the morning, Maxton West was long gone, but Fairen Evert found herself lying in Maxton West’s bed with a thin blanket over her body.
Still unable to adjust to the scene, she rubbed her temples and sat up.
Since that night, it seems to have become Maxton West’s habit to ask Fairen Evert to stay by her bedside every day before she eases into sleep.
What Maxton West never wanted to admit was how much better his sleep was with this woman by his side, and how much better he stopped having nightmares.
The housekeeper’s attitude towards Fairen Evert also became subtle with Maxton West’s “unreasonable requests”.
Although Fairen Evert still found it difficult to adapt, it was her duty and Maxton West did not do anything to her, so she had to get used to it.
In the middle of the night, Fairen Evert was suddenly awakened by a cramping pain in her belly, which she couldn’t stop, and her forehead was sweating.
Knowing it was her period, Fairen Evert gritted her teeth and sat up carefully, lifting the covers to get out of bed, only to be stopped by Maxton West, who had somehow woken up next to her.
“Where are you going?” There was confusion in his pale eyes, apparently waking suddenly from sleep, and she was surprised that he was such a light sleeper.
“I… I don’t feel well.” Fairen Evert said a little shakily.
Maxton West’s hand still didn’t let go.
Fairen Evert hesitated for a moment and then said truthfully, “I’m afraid I’m going to dirty your bed.”
Maxton West’s expression was relieved, and after she went to the bathroom to change, without saying a word, he swept her up, put his warm palm on her belly, and then went back to sleep.
Feeling the warm touch on her belly, Fairen Evert’s body felt as if it had been electrified.
After spending the night in this weird embrace position, Maxton West slept a full hour later than usual the next day.
Maxton West opened his eyes, his hands were still in the same position as last night, and Fairen Evert was no longer there.
There was a flash of bewilderment in his eyes.
It seemed that since that night, he had grown to see this woman as all he had.
It had been years and years since he had experienced that feeling of inner stability that had awakened him every night in the past, perhaps at the slightest movement of his nerves.
Even if it was just a stranger, she brought him a stability that he had never had before.
There are things in this world that are perhaps as clever as evil …
This day, Fairen Evert went to prepare Maxton West’s medication. When she passed a room on the second floor, she took a few more looks and suddenly realized that the doors of all the rooms in the villa were open, except for this one, which was closed.
Driven by curiosity, she reached out and twisted the door handle and slowly opened the door. This material belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
Instantly, she felt the dusty aura of the house.
However, the room, whether decorated or furnished, was extremely feminine, and Maxton West’s room was a completely different style.
The large and delicate mirror on the dressing table, the soft carvings on the European style closet, all of them are highlighting that a woman once lived here.
I don’t know what it was, but this knowledge made Fairen Evert’s curiosity grow stronger, and she couldn’t help but walk towards the dresser.
The boxes and ornaments on it, though obviously dusty, were of great value at first glance.
On the table, a delicate ornament, a string of pearls lay quietly, presenting a perfect and luminous white texture.
It reminded Fairen Evert of her mother’s dressing table.
She slowly reached out, hefted the pearl necklace and examined it for a moment, and was about to put it back when she saw Maxton West standing in the doorway through the mirror.
Before Fairen Evert could react, she heard Maxton West’s cold, unemotional voice: “Who let you into this room?”
She pursed her lips and put the necklace down, her other hand behind her back clenched nervously as she met Maxton West’s gaze with some unease.
His brow was full of harshness, as if he was holding something back, his tone strong and gritted: “Who let you just touch anything in here!”
“Sorry, I’m just curious …” Fairen Evert took a deep breath and explained, “There’s really nothing else on my mind, Mr. West.”
Maxton West sneered, took a few steps forward and ripped her hand right through the door, flinging her out of the way.
He looked at her condescendingly, “If you ever come in here again, don’t try to get a penny from me.”
Fairen Evert was wrestled to the floor as Maxton West’s expression was horribly grim and seemed to change completely into the Maxton West she had first seen.
“I’m sorry …” Her lips moved, but she didn’t know what to say.
Maxton West sneered and left the room without a backward glance, the door slamming shut with a loud bang.
Fairen Evert did not know why Maxton West was so angry, she froze in place, her lips pale, her clenched hands trembling lightly.
At that moment, the housekeeper walked up to Fairen Evert, sighed lightly and said, “Miss Evert, don’t take it too much to heart, the young master, he, too, is justifiable.”
Fairen Evert lowered his eyes and said to the housekeeper, “It is indeed wrong of me to enter this room privately, just …”
“This is the young master’s late mother’s room.” The butler’s eyes flashed with a trace of sadness as he slowly said.
Fairen Evert had actually guessed that this was Maxton West’s mother’s room, but the word “deceased” in the butler’s words still touched her heart.
No wonder Maxton West reacted so badly, no one would like to have someone intrude into the space of their beloved deceased loved ones.
But the housekeeper’s next words surprised her even more; she hadn’t expected that Maxton West had had such a dark childhood.
The housekeeper sighed slightly, a hint of intolerance flashed under her eyes, and narrated to Fairen Evert …
