Chapter 54
“Who did she hurt?” asked Amelia.
“Andrew!” Madelyn exclaimed.
Amelia’s fury intensified upon learning it was Andrew. “Weren’t you the one who hurt him? How dare you try to pin it on Elena?”
Caleb’s expression grew grim as he listened. He knew about Andrew’s injury, but Elena had accused Madelyn of causing it. He wondered what was really happening.
Madelyn ignored Amelia’s question. She took a sip from the glass of water a maid had brought her and casually asked, “Whose idea was it to slip me birth control pills?”
Her sudden question silenced Amelia and Caleb. Guilt was written plainly across their faces. Madelyn couldn’t help but scoff at herself, silently wondering if they were truly her biological parents.
Amelia and Caleb were completely focused on Elena, especially as she was preparing for a civil service exam and now faced this incident. A criminal record could seriously affect her future career. So, their main focus was now on helping Elena through this ordeal.
Amelia stepped forward, her voice stern. “This isn’t the moment for that. Ask Mr. Miller’s release of Elena first.”
“And what if I insist on dealing with this immediately?” Madelyn put down her glass and fixed Amelia with a steely gaze.
Amelia and Caleb didn’t see slipping birth control pills into Madelyn’s food as a major concern. To them, it was just part of their scheme. However, Elena’s arrest today wasn’t only about Madelyn’s desire to settle past grievances. The birth control pill incident was also part of the reason.
Caleb and Amelia hadn’t anticipated Madelyn’s relentless pursuit of the issue. They both looked unusually grim.
“I came up with the idea. Elena wasn’t involved!” Amelia spoke bluntly.
“Is that so?” Madelyn smirked, showing no sign of being surprised. She knew Amelia would do anything for Elena, but she never imagined Amelia would stoop to such a low.
Amelia didn’t want to dwell on it. She snapped, “If you’ve got a
problem, take it up with me. Leave Elena out of it.”
She didn’t seem to regret her actions at all and appeared impatient. Madelyn couldn’t fathom how much Amelia resented her. She was Amelia’s flesh and blood, after all.
Madelyn’s patience wore thin. “Unfortunately, I’m not the one who gets to decide.”
“W–What do you mean?” Amelia asked. Madelyn’s refusal to get the police to release Elena ignited Amelia’s fury.
Madelyn stood up, her cold stare fixed on Amelia. “From now on, I’m severing all ties with the Garcias.”
“What did you just say? You’re such an ingrate! I carried you for nine months and raised you all these years, even paid for your college. And now, you’re cutting ties?” Amelia burst out in anger.
Caleb’s expression hardened into a scowl as he stared at Madelyn.
Madelyn cast a mocking glance at Amelia. “I was doing just fine with the Millers, raised to be Andrew’s future wife since I was young. Did I really need your support? You know exactly why you brought me back. from the Millers.”
If Elena hadn’t fallen for Andrew at 16, Amelia might never have acknowledged Madelyn as her daughter. Now, Amelia’s only concern was Elena’s future. Madelyn saw through it all, and the bitter reality

“Please show our guests out,” Madelyn instructed firmly.
David understood the implication. Politeness would be out the window if Amelia and Caleb didn’t leave quietly.
