Love’ss 43
Chapter 43
Elena hadn’t come to the Millers for help despite the difficulties that had plagued her family. She didn’t think it was the right time for the Millers to learn about her altercation with Madelyn yet.
However, Madelyn had unexpectedly beat her to relaying the incident to the Millers. That explained why they hadn’t invited Elena over for the last few days.
There was not a trace of panic on Madelyn’s face as she ignored.
Elena and comforted Athena, “Don’t get worked up, Grandma. Let me handle this, alright?”
Athena’s chest rose and fell rapidly as her blood boiled. Andrew had always been her favorite grandchild. He had been outstanding sinceFrom NôvelDrama.Org.
young.
Elena finally understood what had happened. It seemed Madelyn had implicated her in the stabbing incident that left Andrew injured. She had never pegged Madelyn for the scathing, two–faced type, and that
sort of underestimation cost her.
Athena had gone silent with rage. Seeing this, Grace walked up to Elena and said coldly, “Leave now. You’re not welcome here anymore.”
Faltering, Elena argued, “Grace, things aren’t as Maddie said. She was
the one who-”
“Quiet!” Grace barked, cutting her off.
She did not cave even as Elena stared at her tearfully, looking like at pup the had been kicked to the curb. Instead, she continued harshly,” We were going to drop by the Garcia residence after Mrs. Miller
Senior’s birthday celebration, but that won’t be necessary now that you’re here.
“We want you to return the things you took from our family by this
afternoon.”
“Grace…” Elena was shocked that they would demand she return the jewelry they had given her. She couldn’t believe their relationship had soured to such an extent in just a matter of days.
Denial washed over her. She refused to believe Grace and Athena,
who had loved her as if she were their own, would do this to her. She was certain Madelyn had played a role in this sudden change.
With that in mind, she cast a wounded look at Madelyn and started sobbing. “Maddie, how could you frame me like this when you were the one who hurt Andrew?”
“We’ve already looked into the incident. Shall we have George clarify matters?” Grace ground out the words, furious that Elena was shameless enough to argue any further.
Elena nearly cried in relief when she heard George’s name. He had always been on her side, and Amelia had told her that he was a trustworthy ally even while he was working at Serenity Villa.
She was confident that George, of all people, would not betray her. She nodded, excited to turn the tables on Madelyn as she said, “Let’s hear what George has to say, then.”
Grace was surprised that Elena was bold enough to allow George to give his testimony on the matter. If nothing else, at least Elena had guts. She snorted and said, “Very well, then. Ryan, have George drop by, please.”
Ryan replied from where he stood nearby, “Yes, ma’am.”
Elena glanced at Madelyn smugly, but her heart leaped to her throat when she beheld Madelyn’s placid expression. When Grace investigated the incident, had she gone to George for an explanation? Had George told her that Elena was the one who stabbed Andrew?
But that was impossible. George was loyal to Amelia. He wouldn’t. betray Elena like that!
A chill raced down her spine as she looked at Grace. “Grace!” she called out, her voice sharp with panic.
“What, are you scared?” Grace taunted, raising a brow when she registered the horror on Elena’s face
All the bravado went out of Elena. If she refused to let George give his statement, then she wouldn’t stand a chance at winning back the Millers‘ trust and favor. She gritted her teeth and attempted
persuasion. “Please believe me, Grace. I’m innocent.”
“We’ll find out whether you’re innocent after George gets here,” Grace drawled coldly.
“Just get the wretched thing to leave! I don’t care what George has to say,” Athena interjected. She didn’t want to see Elena lingering in her house for a second longer. She hadn’t missed the fear that had flickered in Elena’s eyes earlier.
As far as she was concerned, they didn’t need to waste time on hearing George’s clarification or concern themselves with Elena’s case. She added for good measure. “The lawyer should be here any minute.”
Upon hearing this, Grace recalled that the lawyer was on his way to draw up the share transfer agreement. Athena was right; they didn’t have time to waste on the likes of Elena.
When Elena heard that the lawyer was coming, she was suddenly
reminded that Madelyn stood to gain Athena’s shares in the company.
