Chapter 149 Reconciliation
Erin’s voice was hoarse as she asked over the phone, “Why is he here? How did he know that our mother was hospitalized?”
Gavin confessed immediately. “I’m sorry… I told lan about this. I was really scared at that time. Mom had just been taken to the emergency room, and I couldn’t find Dad. You didn’t show up in time either, so… I just hoped that someone capable would show up quickly. But stupid me forgot that lan and you were already divorced. He wouldn’t bother with our family’s affairs anymore, and he’s not in Southwrok County since he’s in the city. When I realized my mistake, I informed lan about it.” Belongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.
He was very guilty about what he did, so he spoke with a bit of trepidation, as if afraid that Erin would get mad. After hearing her younger brother’s explanation, Erin understood completely. In any case, there was no point crying over spilled milk. Now that everyone was at the hospital she had no reason to send lan away.
“Gavin, I’ll be back soon.” Erin had already composed herself. After all, this wasn’t her private space. Her mother was still in the hospital, and no matter how much emotional distress she felt, she had to endure it. Besides love, there were also family and other responsibilities
in life.
Tentatively, Gavin asked, “Can you forgive me, Erin? I know you don’t want any contact with lan anymore, but I-”
“It’s okay. Gavin. What’s done is done. If something happens at home next lime, just give me a call. Don’t bother contacting lan again,” Erin
reminded him with a sigh.
“Ok, I understand.”
After Gavin hung up, lan, who was beside him, immediately asked, “How did it go, Gavin? What did your sister say?”
“Don’t worry, it seems like my sister isn’t angry. She won’t make you leave when she comes back.” Gavin didn’t hold any resentment
toward lan.
lan, who was dressed in a summer suit, seemed to be in good spirits. He was holding a box of expensive supplements worth a thousand dollars. Standing with Gavin in the corridor outside the ward, he attracted a lot of attention. Gavin was a sunny and handsome young man,
while lan was elegant and charismatic.
Many people passing by couldn’t help but steal glances at them. Handsome men like lan were rare in a small county like Southwrok County, and they were even least likely to appear in a hospital.
A particularly enthusiastic young nurse approached them and asked, “Are you a family member visiting a patient? Are you looking for the ward number of the patient?”
lan smiled at the young and pretty nurse in front of him and spoke very gentlemanly, “Yes, we’re here to visit a patient. We know the ward number. Thank you.”
His tone was polite, while his gaze was calm and friendly. Gavin secretly observed all of this. lan had contacted Gavin several times before, showing concern for his studies. He kept using the excuse of providing nutritional supplements for Gavin to give him money.
Gavin had already received nearly a hundred thousand dollars from lan without the knowledge of Cherry, Grayson, or Erin. Naturally, he wouldn’t let Erin find out about this.
lan’s intention was very straightforward. He hoped that Gavin would help bridge the gap between him and Erin. lan expressed regret to Gavin for betraying his sister in the past and talked at length about his desire to spend the rest of his life with Erin.
As lan needed Gavin’s help, he was exceptionally generous. In turn, Gavin still regarded lan as his former brother–in–law and had already decided to secretly help lan win back Erin.
“lan, let’s go into the ward instead of standing in the corridor.”
Gavin gradually grew annoyed at the nurses who kept passing by intentionally to look at them. Ian’s behavior pleased Gavin. This former brother–in–law of his didn’t seem to notice these women and didn’t give them a second glance.
lan furrowed his brows slightly and said, “Gavin, I’m worried that Cherry won’t want to see me.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll go in first and talk to Mom. Once she agrees, you can come in.”
“Okay, I’ll wait outside then. I won’t go in until she’s willing to see me.” lan showed exceptional patience and humility. This made Gavin even more determined to help his former brother–in–law.
While lan waited outside the ward, Erin left the hospital and went to a supermarket across the street to buy some things. Her eyes were slightly swollen from crying, and she didn’t want her mother to notice. So, she decided to go buy some snacks and desserts that her mother and Gavin liked in the supermarket.
Early that morning when Erin got into the taxi, the young driver, who was a fan of celebrity gossip, recognized her as soon as she got in. Therefore, as soon as she left the hospital she wore sunglasses and a mask. Ever since the scandal with Matthew and Roman, she would carry these two items with her whenever she went out. Alter all, she couldn’t afford to offend the fans of these male idols. In that case, the wisest choice would be to hide from them and avoid them.
Now, she herself had become an actress. Even though she hadn’t appeared in any films or TV shows yet, news of her assault by a fellow. male actor had spread across major websites. While other celebrities inadvertently got involved with controversies gradually as they became more and more popular, she, a complete rookie who hadn’t even filmed an advertisement, had unexpectedly gained fame. Erin still felt a little bewildered and thought that her fame was completely unjustified. She simply got famous due to a wild stroke of luck and
masses who loved to gossip.
Erin pushed the shopping cart around the supermarket and threw the things her mother and Gavin liked into it without hesitation. Right
then, her phone rang. Upon seeing that it was Roman, she answered right away.
“Erin, how is your mother doing?” Roman asked, getting straight to the point.
“She’s fine. Her mental state has improved a lot. I’m just a bit worried about her, so I took two days off to keep her company, just in case.”
Roman let out a sigh of relief. “That’s good, then. I’ll wait for you to return to the filming crew. If you need to stay a few more days, I can talk to the director to make some arrangements. You don’t have to feel burdened about asking for more days off.”
Erin expressed her gratitude. “Thank you, Roman. I’ll let you know if it’s necessary.”
“Alright. I’m heading to the filming crew now. Feel free to call me if you need anything.”
“Thank you, Roman.”
Roman sounded a tiny bit displeased. “Erin, don’t be so polite with me, or else I’ll personally drive to Southwrok County to pick you up.”
Erin chuckled. “Okay, next time I won’t be so polite with you.”
“Right. I’ll be hanging up now. Take care.”
“You too,” Erin replied with sincerity.
In his hotel room in Fleuverton, Roman slowed down his pacing. He looked at the disconnected call screen on his phone and felt a little sad that the call had ended so quickly. If it weren’t for his filming schedule, he would have gone to Southwrok County immediately to accompany Erin.
However, he was also afraid that such a rash action would scare her. Roman realized that he’d become increasingly concerned for Erin. Conflicting thoughts constantly battled in his mind.
He laughed bitterly as he put his phone back in his pocket. Ken, who was standing beside him, asked curiously, “Roman, why are you laughing?”
Roman turned to him and said, “I’m laughing because I think I might go crazy one day.”
“Huh? Why? Are you feeling unwell, Roman?” Ken was anxious and worried.
Roman walked forward with a helpless expression.
Half an hour passed by the time Erin finished shopping in the supermarket. She waited until she was at the checkout counter before taking off her sunglasses and glancing at the nearby mirror. A quick look confirmed that her eyes were no longer red, so she could confidently go back and see Cherry.
Ten minutes later, when Erin walked into the ward carrying everything she bought. She froze instantly upon seeing the scene inside–lan was sitting on a chair, and he seemed to be looking at something on his phone with Gavin: Cherry and Grayson were standing together with their hands on each other’s waist on the balcony with their backs facing Erin.
“Erin, you’re here.” lan was the first to stand up and greet her.
His words made Cherry and Grayson, who were out on the balcony, turn around and look at Erin.
Erin’s expression was somewhat strange. Not only was her detestable ex–husband in the ward, but even her mother’s current husband. who had just betrayed her, was also present. They were both at the top of Erin’s list of people that she didn’t wish to see.
However, Erin had already anticipated that lan would be there. Therefore, when she saw him, she felt repulsed but otherwise didn’t lose control of her emotions. But seeing Grayson and Cherry appearing to have reconciled truly left her speechless and heartbroken.
The thought of her mother almost dying from taking sleeping pills infuriated her. How could Cherry easily forgive Grayson like this? That previous suicide attempt seemed like a joke now!
It wasn’t that she couldn’t bear to see Cherry reconciling with Grayson, but the speed at which it happened was way too fast. She found it
incredulous and difficult to accept.
When Cherry saw Erin’s strained expression, she turned and walked out of the ward. She called out, “Erin, come with me. I have something
to tell you.”
She glanced at Grayson and said, “Grayson, take lan and Gavin out to grab a bite. Gavin mentioned that lan hasn’t even had breakfast yet.”
“Sure, sure. I’ll go get some food with them. What do you want? I’ll get something for you too.” Grayson was evidently trying to make it up
to her obsequiously.
Waving her hand to show that there wasn’t a need for that, Cherry replied, “I’m not hungry. I ate a lot for breakfast. You can go.”
lan and Gavin both stood up simultaneously. When lan passed by Erin, he fell slightly disappointed that she didn’t even spare him al glance. He walked out of the ward calmly, and Gavin followed him.
Grayson glanced at Erin and wanted to say something, but seeing her disgusted expression and her complete disregard for him, he
blushed and ultimately didn’t say anything. He walked out of the ward as well.
Cherry took the initiative to walk over to Erin and hold her hand. She explained, “I know you’re angry at Grayson, but I need to tell you
something. Grayson went back to his hometown last night, and his phone ran out of battery on the way, so that was why you and Gavin
couldn’t reach him. He brought the property deed that his parents left him and gave it to me. He said he wants to change the name on it to
mine. That property is worth one and a half million.”
After pausing slightly. Cherry went on. “He also promised that he’ll cut off all ties with Charlotte in the future and will absolutely not have any further contact with her. He said he wants to live a good life with me and hopes I’ll give him a chance. If he ever makes a similar mistake again in the future, he’ll leave with nothing.”
Although Grayson tried to make amends by bringing the property deed, Erin still found it unacceptable. But then she thought that her mother must really love Grayson; otherwise, she wouldn’t have chosen to
attempt suicide in a fit of anger, nor would she have forgiven. Grayson at the drop of a hat.
In the end, her mother’s views on love and marriage were her own, and Erin had no right to impose or instill her views on her mother
forcefully. As a daughter, she naturally wanted to see her mother happy.
Seeing Cherry’s genuine smile that came from her heart, Erin thought she should compromise. She decided to keep her true thoughts on this matter to herself and not tell Cherry.
“Mom, if that’s your decision, I have no objections.”
Cherry happily hugged her and said. “Erin, did you see that lan came to visit me? I didn’t expect him to still show care for me even after divorcing you! He just told me a moment ago that he wants to transfer both villas to you, following Grayson’s example- Feeling utterly disgusted, Erin abruptly cut Cherry off, “Mom, I don’t want to have anything to do with him anymore!”
