Part 52 # The Pawn and Leading Player
Melati hurriedly entered Lara’s room, hoping that her worries wouldn’t come true. Melati was traumatized by her employer’s case, Seno, who suddenly collapsed with foaming mouth. She didn’t want her mistress to experience the same.
“Ma’am!” Melati searched for her mistress, only to find her in the bathroom, concentrating on shaving her legs.
“Ma’am! I apologize for intruding. I thought you had fainted,” Melati said, trying to steady her erratic breaths. Her heart was pounding too fast; the girl was overwhelmed.
“Ah, Mela? Sorry, I didn’t hear you calling. I’m concentrating on shaving my legs,” Lara said with a smile. She didn’t mind Melati barging into her room because they both knew that something shocking had just happened to them.
“Alright, Ma’am. I just wanted to say that dinner is ready,” Melati continued before excusing herself.Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
“Okay, I’ll be there soon,” Lara said quickly. She would continue her shower and then enjoy the dinner prepared by her assistant.

After finishing dinner, Lara fell asleep immediately. She only woke up the next day with a pale face after receiving news on her phone.
“Melati! We need to go to the hospital now!” she suddenly exclaimed.
“W-What? Why, Ma’am?”
“Just come! I’ll explain later! Come on, you have to come with me!”
Melati quickly grabbed her jacket and tied up her hair. “Be careful, Ma’am!” she shouted as she saw Lara almost slipping as she descended to the garage.
Both of them rushed to the hospital at a considerable speed. Melati remained silent. So did Lara. Only the engine’s roar filled the silence between them.
“Oh, God!” Lara muttered, occasionally biting her lower lip. The turn signals blinked, indicating they were about to reach the hospital gates. Lara immediately slowed down the car while scanning the surroundings. Seconds later, she turned into the gate and headed to the parking lot to park her car.
“Hurry!” Lara exclaimed after parking. Fortunately, the parking lot wasn’t as crowded as usual. Lara quickly locked the car door and ran towards the main lobby.
Melati still wondered but kept up with her pace. Eventually, they reached Seno’s hospital room.
Empty.
No one was there.
“Where’s my husband?” Lara asked with teary eyes.
“Uh oh, Ma’am … Your husband has been transferred to a special facility,” the nurse, acting as the spokesperson, said in tremble.
“Don’t joke with me! With whose permission?!” Lara raised her voice.
“With the permission of his guardian, his personal doctor who usually treats your husband, Ma’am.”
The nurse’s words cut through Lara’s anger. A woman’s voice.
“Doctor Miriam?” Lara squinted. “It can’t be! Legally, I’m his guardian! All his treatments should go through my approval!” Lara insisted.
“Unfortunately, that’s not the case, Mrs. Lara. This is a power of attorney from her lawyer. Your husband indeed gave consent for treatment to his private doctor.”
The heated debate faded with Seno’s signature on the unknown document handed to Lara.
What was happening here?
“I-It’s impossible,” Lara trembled. Her vision suddenly blurred, and her heart sank. How could Seno block her access as the legal guardian? He was her husband.
“I apologize for the inconvenience, Mrs. Lara. We have to get back to work,” Doctor Miriam said, nodding towards the security at the entrance to the ER.
The man in the black uniform approached Lara and guided her to leave the ER area immediately.
“Please, Ma’am,” he said coldly. Lara glanced back disapprovingly. “I can leave by myself,” she snapped while squeezing the power of attorney handed to her.
Lara’s heart was shattered.
Seno had truly destroyed his dignity as the only family member who should have been trusted.

“Ma’am,” Melati called out pitifully. Sometimes, she tightly held Lara’s hand, which still emitted a subtle vibration as she drove beside her.
“Damn it!” Lara muttered. She was truly angry, hurt, and unwilling. How could her husband disappear like this? What was he hiding?
“Something’s wrong,” Lara kept wondering. But who could give her the answers?
“Ma’am,” Melati called out again.
This time, Lara turned to look at her assistant, without the usual smile on her usually serene face. Lara was confused. Lara felt empty. She didn’t know what to do.
“What is it, Mela?” Lara finally asked. Melati handed her a piece of paper she had taken from Seno’s bedside table, unnoticed.
“Here, maybe you recognize this?” Melati asked curiously.
“Who? I can’t see, Mel,” Lara asked, still focusing on her driving.
“Doctor Rambey. Is he Mr. Seno’s personal doctor, Ma’am? Maybe you could ask him at this number,” Melati said innocently yet sensibly.
“Give it to me!” Lara ordered, pulling over her car.
She then read the business card handed to her by Melati. “Doctor Rambey?” Lara murmured. She then noted down the doctor’s phone number and tried calling him.
But there was no waiting tone or normal ringing tone on the call.
The number was fake!
“Damn it!”

Meanwhile, Seno remained unconscious in a small room with special facilities to monitor all his developments. He had been asleep all day, and apparently, there were no signs of him waking up.
“Argh….” a moment later, Seno’s groans began to be heard. He frowned upon seeing the sharp lights around him. His vision was still blurry, and his consciousness had not fully recovered.
Seno groped around, where was he?
“Awake already?” someone asked sharply, a voice he recognized.
Seno tried to open his eyes wide. Lara’s voice couldn’t be that harsh. “Wh-who are you?” Seno asked, curious.
“It’s me.”
“Who?!”
“Xenia! You idiot!”
“Ma-Madam?” Seno immediately tried to sit up, but his muscles were still weak. He fell back unable to get up properly. “Aww!” A moment later, Seno felt a pain in his vital area. What exactly had happened to him?
“Don’t move too much. There seems to be a contraindication from the trial drug injected into you,” Madam X explained with her cold tone.
“W-What?!” Seno yelled! He was shocked and couldn’t believe it. “How dare you test drugs on a CEO like me! When did you do that?”
“Quiet, Seno! It’s all in the initial agreement since you agreed to share with me. Is your brain not functioning properly? You should have read the agreement clause carefully, Fool!”
Seno swallowed. He felt powerless. His whole body seemed paralyzed and couldn’t move as usual. “Ba-Bastard!” Seno cursed in anger.
“At least your mouth is still functioning.”
“Arghhh?! How dare you hurt me like this! Wasn’t the trial in the laboratory enough?”
“Lab tests and human trials are different, Seno. Trust me. This effect won’t last long. Just lie down comfortably there,” Madam said with her arrogant smile.
Seno could only growl but couldn’t do anything. This was all purely his fault. Seno was tempted by the huge investment funds, although he didn’t quite understand the price to be paid.
Seno, nothing more and nothing less, was just a pawn of Madam to enter the Indonesian market without getting his hands dirty.
“Stupid rat!”
