It was a statement. Samuel was stating a fact.

Shelmaine wasn’t sure if he had been eavesdropping outside the ward, but then again, eavesdropping didn’t really match his usual behavior.

Yet, he was the one entangled with his first love while they were still married. Blaming anyone wouldn’t change the fact that she was the one who had bad taste in men.
