Chapter 26
Chapter 26 Gwen Is the Ideal Daughter–in–Law
Henry entered the grand hall swiftly. He exchanged pleasantries with Pedro before turning to Jake.
The tension between the two men was palpable, both radiating an air of power. However, given that Jake was here to seek help, he seemed slightly more vulnerabl
“Mr. Lawson, it’s an honor to finally meet you.”
“Mr. Hall, you flatter me,” Henry replied coolly.
As they shook hands, Jake could sense the subtle but unmistakable hostility emanating from Henry, leaving him
feeling uneasy.
Pedro, who was dressed in a traditional white suit, had a warm, affable smile. His sharp eyes, however, betrayed the slyness of a seasoned businessman.
With a cheerful tone, Pedro began, “Henry, we’re here to discuss the medical expo. I heard the Hall family was removed from the list of participants by Savant Group. Could there have been some kind of misunderstanding?” Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.
Henry’s cold gaze swept over Jake. “There’s no misunderstanding. Savant Group simply felt that the Hall family wasn’t up to par.‘
Jake, determined to resolve the issue, quickly offered a solution. “Hall Group is willing to increase its financial commitment to the expo. Mr. Lawson, perhaps you could help facilitate our re–entry?”
He had come here to secure a deal. Participating in this expo would bring significant long–term benefits to the Hall family, far outweighing the upfront investment.
However, Henry remained indifferent, setting his coffee cup down without a second thought. His voice was icy as he replied, “No.”
Jake’s expression darkened as frustration and anger bubbled within him. He had made a concession, yet Henry had refused to entertain the idea.
“Mr. Lawson,” Jake said, his voice taut with frustration, “strictly speaking in business terms, isn’t this a bit too harsh?
The tension between them grew thicker, both men refusing to back down. A confrontation seemed inevitable.
Sensing the escalating conflict, Pedro quickly intervened. “Now let’s not let things get out of hand. With me here as a mediator, I’m sure you two can come to a mutual understanding. How about we all sit down and have a proper discussion?”
Jake took a deep breath, suppressing his growing anger. He knew that losing his temper wouldn’t solve anything.
“Mr. Lawson, if there’s something specific you want from Hall Group, just name it. Let’s see if we can meet your terms.
Henry’s response was deliberately casual, “If Hall Group is willing to share its core research technology with Savant Group, then we might have something to talk about.”
He wasn’t truly interested in their technology. This was more of a ploy to politely reject Jake’s proposal without embarrassing Pedro. It was a way to make Jake realize the futility of his efforts.
“That’s impossible!”
Jake shot up from his seat, his anger flaring again. His voice was sharp and unwavering. “You know how important that technology is to Hall Group. Asking for it is unreasonable, Mr. Lawson.”
This technology had been under development for five years, with the brightest minds across the globe working tirelessly on it.
The project was still under tight wraps, known only to a few within the company, including Gwen, who was now an

darkened further, suspicion gnawing at him. Could it be that Gwen had leaked this vital information to her new employer?
Just as the thought crossed his mind, the doors to the hall were opened by the maids. As Jake stormed out, he turned back and addressed Henry.
“Mr. Lawson, once trust is broken, it’s hard to repair. If your new secretary can betray her previous employer so easily, don’t be surprised when she betrays you next.”
Henry remained seated, offering no farewell. Instead, he smiled faintly, his tone dismissive. “How do you know she and I are just in a work relationship?”
Jake froze at the threshold, his face darkening further as the implications of Henry’s words sunk in. So there was really something going on between Gwen and Henry…
Rage surged through Jake, but he kept his composure just long enough to leave, brushing past Pedro without a word. As soon as Jake was gone, Pedro calmly continued sipping his tea, clearly unfazed.
He knew Henry well. He had successfully taken over the vast Lawson family business, Savant Group, when he was really young. Rejecting Jake so firmly meant that he had his reasons.
“Henry, you young folks have your own ways of handling things.
“Savant Group is expanding into Sinoveria soon, with the headquarters based in Bellmont. You’ll be seeing the Hall family regularly. It wouldn’t hurt to be a bit more flexible,” Pedro said, offering some gentle advice.
Henry nodded slightly, acknowledging his point. “You’re right. I’ll think about it.”
Pedro could tell Henry wasn’t budging, so he let the matter rest. After all, he had done what he could to help.
“By the way, who are you sending to oversee Savant Group’s expansion into Bellmont?”
“The Savant Group is operating on a large scale in Bellmont,” Henry replied. “I’m sending Gwen.”
