Chapter 557 Amorous People
Chapter 557 Amorous People
Clarissa was confused when she saw Charles’s message. ‘Haven’t I been doing a good job so far?
Why have I suddenly been fired?’
After pondering it over, she concluded that the issue with Chanel was probably the cause.
As she was down in the dumps, she received a phone call. It was from New East Corporation’s Director
Jones.
“Am I speaking to Clarissa? Or should I say, Mrs. Lawrence?” the voice on the other end of the line
asked gently. After all, it’d been three years since they had last been in contact.
“Yes, this is her. Hello, Director Jones.” Judging from the voice, Clarissa knew this was the woman she
was familiar with.
“I’m New East Corporation’s HR director. Do you still remember me? I’m calling because we’d like to
invite you to join New East Corporation as an independent director. You’ll be in charge of dealing with
Eden Investment Corporation. What do you think? You’ll be paid 2 million dollars annually.”
“Can I think about it?” Clarissa didn’t turn her down immediately.
“Of course. I know it’s a little out of the blue, so we’ll give you time to consider.”
Clarissa thought, ‘Since the HR director’s calling me, it has to be on Damien’s orders. Since he went for
a meeting at Eden Investment today, he must’ve contributed to me getting fired.’
Clarissa: [I bet you had a hand in getting me fired, right?]
Damien: [You’re overthinking. I’m just offering you a job because I thought you’d be upset. New East
Corporation will pay you more than Eden Investment Corporation ever will.]
Indeed, she didn’t think he had much to do with her getting fired.
Plus, he was just being kind by offering her a job.
Chanel’s “unintentional jump” was the biggest cause for her losing her job. The woman probably didn’t
expect Damien to hire Clarissa.
Clarissa was currently based in Florin, though. How could she keep going to Genovia for work?
When Damien was done with his meeting, he came to see Clarissa for lunch. She told him about her
concerns regarding the distance.
It didn’t bother him at all. “We can talk about that later. Where are you going to stay tonight?” Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.
Clarissa was speechless.
She was worried about her future, but he could only think about getting her into bed.
She picked at her food. “I’m going back to my place.”
“The bed’s a little small, but it’ll do.”
She looked up at him in surprise. “Are you going to stay at my place?”
“Where else can I go?” Damien asked in return.
She didn’t say anything. She played with her food again, thinking that since she had decided to be with
him for good, there was no reason for him to push him away.
After lunch, they took a stroll around campus before heading back to Marble Garden.
Staying here was different from staying in neighborhoods outside of campus.
On campus, even if Clarissa didn’t recognize the students, they were bound to know who she was.
Since Damien was staying at her place, there were bound to be rumors about them sooner or later.
The moment they entered her apartment, Damien pressed her up against the door and kissed her.
He said hoarsely, “Absence does make the heart grow fonder.”
“So you mean that being together every day bores you?” Clarissa felt a little upset.
“It’s great to be in bed together every day!” He swept her into his arms and carried her over to the bed.
Clarissa knew exactly what was going through his mind. Wasn’t he tired of thinking about this all day?
Night had fallen by the time they were done.
The bed had a wooden frame, and it was rather old. It felt like it was going to collapse any second after
being put to the test.
Clarissa was starving, but she didn’t want to eat at night lest she gained weight. Moreover, her limbs
felt like jelly. She didn’t want to move at all.
Damien got up and looked at the books on the bookshelf. He probably wanted to find himself
something to read.
She glanced at him.
“Now I know what a monster you really are. You’re looking for a book to read right after doing the
deed,” she said sarcastically.
“Are they mutually exclusive?” he said while looking at the bookshelf. “A lot of scholars are amorous.”
That was true.
“You’re not a scholar, though.”
“So I can’t be amorous?” Damien asked in return.
That night, he did something amorous again.
