Love Burned, She Rose Unscathed

Chapter 294

Cliff was just about to stand up, eager to find a quiet corner to take the call, when suddenly, Murray and York simultaneously laid hands on his shoulders. Murray signaled everyone to keep it down while York promptly turned off the Spotify playlist blaring through theNôvelDrama.Org owns © this.

speakers. Their coordination was like a well-rehearsed dance, smooth and silent.

Swallowing hard, Cliff felt the weight of the world on his shoulders. This was big.

On the other end of the line, Roseanne had been wrestling with the decision to make this call for what seemed like an eternity. Madge's contract was on the brink of expiration. If they didn't renew with Nadine, they'd be back to square one, scouting for a reliable editor with a knack for mystery and thrillers, and ideally, someone with a solid marketing network.

After much deliberation, Cliff was the only name that came to mind, someone who could possibly bridge her to the media and publishing world.

Roseanne's hesitation wasn't about whether it was appropriate to ask Cliff for help; she knew he wouldn't hesitate if he could assist. Despite her and Murray calling it quits, her bond with Cliff had transcended their mutual connection to Murray. What really made her pause was whether she should be making this decision for Madge without consulting her first.

However, recalling a conversation with Norris earlier that day, who mentioned Madge was on a creative streak, tirelessly working through nights with undiminished zeal, Roseanne decided against disturbing her creative process. "Cliff, are you busy right now?" she ventured.

"Never too busy for you, Roseanne. What's up?" Cliff responded, his tone instantly serious, ready for whatever task was at hand.

Murray, witnessing this exchange, felt a pang of unfamiliarity with his friend. Cliff's demeanor towards Roseanne wasn't just that of a friend's ex; it was of someone who saw her as an equal, a genuine friend.

The dynamics perplexed him. How

did Cliff and Roseanne maintain such a close rapport even after her breakup with him? Especially when Cliff, for all his easygoing charm, wasn't one to easily warm upto people outside their circle.

Cliff listened intently as Roseanne outlined Madge's situation, nodding and humming in understanding. "So, you're looking for someone with experience in mysteries and thrillers,

and with a good promotion the

network. That's a tall order," he mused, scratching his head in thought.

Suddenly, his eyes lit up as he turned to York. "Hey, didn't York invest in a publishing house recently? They're big on educational materials and classicliterature but were looking to diversify. Might be a good fit Roseanne."

Roseanne paused, considering the proposal. Cliff remained patient, not pressing her for an immediate answer.

"Look, Roseanne," he finally said, "let me talk to York and see what I can do. No promises, but I'll give it my best shot."
