Chapter 764 You Can’t Hold On to It

Chapter 764 You Can’t Hold On to It

Crossing her arms, Chloe turned her gaze back to the faux fur coat and nodded at the store attendant. The attendant understood and immediately took it down and handed it to her.

"Wait a moment," Xavia suddenly said, raising her hand to stop the attendant. "Has anyone paid for this coat yet?"

The store attendant hesitated. "Not yet, but—"

"I'll buy it then. I'll pay by my card," Xavia said decisively.

"But…" The attendant was caught in a dilemma, not knowing what to do.

Chloe shrugged. "Do you really have to snatch everything I’ve set my eyes on?"

"What are you talking about? I just happen to really like this coat. Besides, this coat wouldn’t suit your figure," Xavia said, maintaining a gentle smile.

"Fine, if you like it so much, you can have it. After all, though I’m giving it to you, you might not be able to hold on to it," Chloe replied nonchalantly with a hint of disdain in her voice.

Xavia froze as Clara shouted, "What nonsense are you spouting? Ms. Xavia will soon be marrying into the royal family. She wouldn't bother snatching your stuff!"

"And you are?" Chloe raised an eyebrow.

Clara held her head high and proudly declared, "I'm part of the royal family. Mr. Kenneth entrusted me to watch over Ms. Xavia, so don't even think about bullying her."

"Oh, so you're a maid of the royal family," Chloe remarked.

"I'm not a maid! My dad has been Mr. Kenneth’s chauffeur for over a decade. We’re all like family," Clara retorted. NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.

"Haha, you can just admit you’re a maid." Chloe burst into laughter. This woman was even lower in status than Megan.

Xavia glanced toward the entrance of the mall, a calculative look in her eyes. She noted the timing and took a step forward. "Chloe, hurtful words can be damaging. People these days can’t distinguish between nobles and commoners."

Clara nodded gratefully. "Thank you for speaking up for me, Ms. Xavia. You're beautiful, kind- hearted, and generous. You shouldn’t lower yourself to this woman’s level. Hey girl, give us the coat.”

Biting her lip, Xavia hesitated for a moment and said, "I’ll be the bigger person and let you have the coat instead. Although it doesn’t suit you, I shouldn't deprive you of the right to try a new style."

Chloe was dumbfounded. Xavia was getting better and better at turning things around. She did not want to waste her time with such people and looked away from Xavia. She shouldered her bag and strode forward. After a long day of work, she was exhausted and the last thing she wanted was to engage Xavia in an argument.

"Ms. Xavia was talking to you! Don't play deaf!" Clara's voice raised, trying to get Chloe's attention.

Chloe ignored her and continued walking away. When she passed Xavia, the latter said in a voice so soft that only Chloe could hear her, "There's something you’re unaware of, Ms. Chloe."

Pausing in her tracks, Chloe looked up at Xavia.

"Mr. Cyrus is about to make a move, and you're about to be in big trouble."

"Mr. Cyrus?"

"The mastermind behind Duskfall," Xavia replied, her expression unreadable.

Chloe was puzzled by Xavia’s words, unable to make heads or tails of their relevance to her. The person who was in big trouble should be Xavia as her misdeeds and lack of value to Duskfall had been exposed. It was uncertain whether Joseph could go up against the royal family head-on, and if he failed, Xavia might try to pull some strings with Kenneth’s help. However, based on Callum and Joseph’s relationship, it was more likely that Callum would support Joseph.

Seeing Chloe's confused expression, Xavia laughed and attempted to hand the fur coat to her. Naturally, Chloe did not reach out to accept it, but Xavia suddenly tumbled and fell.
