Chapter 42 Undeniable evidence
Chapter 42 Undeniable evidence
The scene stung at Waldo’s chest.
Samba was a man he’d spent a massive fortune hiring. As the boxing king of Heukwok, he was one of
the top boxers across the entire world.
And now he was kneeling at Baron’s feet, asking to become his follower.
Suddenly amused, Baron shot a dull-eyed Waldo a look, then turned his gaze back on Samba. “Do you
think I need you by my side?”
Samba’s expression was solemn. “I’m willing to do anything for you – including kill.”
“You think I need your help to kill people?” Baron smiled mildly.
Samba’s dark face remained set as stone. “I can also protect your loved ones.”
Baron had no intentions of taking Samba in at the start, but that hit home as a reminder.
Be it Yuri’s ordeal at the hands of Wallace before, or what Tracy had gone through today – would any
of this have happened if he’d left someone close to them for protection?
After some consideration, Baron spoke up. “Leave your contact details. When I need you, I’ll get in
touch.”
Samba was overjoyed. “Thanks for taking me in, Boss!”
“I don’t like being called Boss. Mr. Owen is fine.”
“Yes, Mr. Owen!” Samba replied.
Although he was from Heukwok, his command of the local language was impressively orthodox. If his
background check cleared, having him on wasn’t a problem.
By now, Waldo was thoroughly numb, as if he was in a dream. The man he’d paid top coin hadn’t just
failed to take down his opponent, but he had actually gone over to the enemy’s side.
“Samba, you promised to deal with Baron for me, but you’re actually going to work for him instead?
Where’s your professional conduct?” Waldo flew into a rage.
Samba shook his head indifferently. “I didn’t take your money. I also don’t owe you anything. Why
would I take your orders?”
“Fine! That’s perfectly fine! If you’re going to follow this garbage, then you’re an enemy of the Scott
Clan from today forward! Just wait – our family’s going to fall on you like a tonne of bricks!” Waldo’s
features twisted.
“Know what I hate the most?”
Baron’s eyes narrowed, and he finished before Waldo could reply. “Threats.”
“Well, too bad, that’s exactly what I’m making! Kill me if you can – if you haven’t the guts for the job,
shut your mouth and wait for the Scott Clan to give what’s coming to you!’ Waldo burst out into
hysterical laughter.
Baron looked at him as if he was already a corpse. “Is the Scott Clan that big a deal?”
“Our family is one of the elite families of Cona, with power just beneath the four families themselves.
Your vaunted Perry family is dirt compared to the Scott Clan. We can blow you apart and leave you to
scatter like ash in the wind. What does an abandoned garbage son-in-law like you know about our This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - ©.
power?”
The mention of his clan lit Waldo’s face with pride, and he followed up with a sinister grin. “If you get on
your knees right now, beg for mercy and offer up your woman, I might just let you live.”
“You don’t get it. A family as insignificant as yours isn’t worth my attention.”
Baron shook his head slightly and mocked, “Do you think you’ll still be able to hold your head that high
when I bring down this clan of yours?”
With that, Baron had no further to linger, and turned to leave.
Behind him, Waldo’s cackles continued. “The wrath of the Scott Clan will fall on your head soon!
Leaving me alive is the biggest mistake you’ve ever made!”
“Mr. Owen, leaving this sort of scum alive will come back to bite you sooner or later. Why not nip the
problem in the bud?” Charles said, following by his side.
Samba volunteered immediately. “No need to bring out the big guns, sir. Leave it to me!”
A cold smile tugged at the corner of Baron’s mouth. “I’d rather wait for the Scott Clan to come to me.
It’s more interesting this way.”
Samba felt a shiver run down his spine. He’d been ready to kill this man just a few moments earlier,
unaware that he was provoking an actual demon.
After sending Samba off, Charles personally drove Baron and Tracy to the Peak Hotel.
Baron made a call on the way, saying only one sentence from beginning to end - “After tonight, the
Scott Clan is done for in Cona!”
The Scott courtyard.
Edmund Scott, head of the Scott family, had just stepped out of the bath. Waiting for his hair to dry, he
turned on the evening news.
The program was broadcasting news of Cona’s largest enterprises signing into collaboration with the
local branch of the Brone Group.
Looking at the news, Edmund sighed. “As expected of the Brone Group. Even as a newly established
branch in Cona, they’re gaining rapid approval. It won’t be long before the state gains another top
enterprise.”
“Dad, why don’t we sign a contract with them too?” asked a middle-aged man in pajamas.
The man was the Edmund’s eldest son Edric. Edmund had expressed in public on multiple occasions
that Edric was to succeed his position as head of the clan. His pride in his beloved eldest was such that
they still lived together.
Edmund shook his head, bitter. “You think I haven’t tried? I went up to them personally and even then
they shut me out. Except for the four clans, they couldn’t care less about anyone else.”
“No matter how big the Brone Group is, they’re just a passing storm. This is Cona. Disrespecting the
local families will come back to haunt them eventually.” A trace of venom flashed across Edric’s eyes.
“Saying that sort of thing in front of me is fine, but keep it in the house.”
Edmund’s brow furrowed. “The Chairman of the Brone Group is from Cona himself, and he’s still
young. If you get the chance, you should make contact.”
He was pleased with everything about his eldest but one – the man’s sheer arrogance gave him no end
of grief. At least Edric was capable enough to back up that arrogance.
“Relax, Dad. My methods might be high-profile, but I know when to rein it in,’ Edric hurried to smooth
things over.
“Right, how’d things go with Wallace?” Edmund suddenly asked.
At the mention of Wallace, Edric smiled mildly. “Waldo had me find him a boxing king of Heukwok
yesterday to get revenge for Wallace tonight. Should be about done by now.”
Edmund nodded, then said solemnly, “Waldo tends to take things to extremes. That’s fine against small
fry, but against anyone strong enough, he’ll land himself in trouble just as easily. As his older brother,
you need to keep an eye on him at all times, keep him from picking the wrong fights.”
“Dad, no worries. It’s just the two of us brothers in the Scott Clan. I won’t have him in danger,’ Edric
said, smiling.
At that moment, Edmund’s phone rang.
“What - what did you say?”
Edmund picked up, took one listen and grew deathly pale, his eyes full of stunned rage.
“Dad, what’s happened?” Edric asked, sensing trouble.
Edmund was almost always cool and collected. Edric knew better than anyone that if his father was
reacting in such a massive way to a phone call, it had to be something big.
Before Edmund could respond, Edric’s own phone rang.
“What? They shut down the Scorpion Club?
“I thought I told you to hide anything that could cause problems? How could you let them find those
anyway?
“What? They took pictures of the product too?”
A wild fury seizing him, Edric smashed his phone to bits on the floor.
Edmund, dazed, lay paralyzed on the sofa.
Even the typically arrogant Edric was filled with despair.
“Edric, help me up!”
After a long while, Edmund calmed, though his body remained limp.
Edric hurried to help his father up, growling through gnashed teeth, “Dad, this isn’t random. Someone’s
working behind the scenes to strike at the Scott Clan. It can’t be a coincidence that all the clubs we
own are getting shut down.”
After cooling off, Edric recovered his wits immediately.
Edmund’s eyes were heavy, and he said in a low voice, “Summon every one for a meeting. If we’re
going down, I want to know why!”
Clubs were the lifeblood of the Scott Clan. Now that they were all closed, the danger to the family was
imminent.
Although it was deep in the night, all direct clan members received the summons and arrived at the
courtyard within moments.
“Has anyone here made enemies of any important figures recently?”
Edmund sat at the head of the conference, his gaze sweeping everyone in the room.
“No!”
“I haven’t done anything either!”
“Sir, has something happened?”
…...
Confusion showed on everyone’s faces. They were being summoned for a question they had no idea
ow to answer.
No one would have dared conceal anything in such a situation, which only induced more doubt in
Edmund’s mind.
All evidence pointed to someone important taking offense, but they had no idea who.
“Where’s Waldo?” Edmund demanded, frowning.
Edric replied hastily, “Wallace is being treated in hospital, and Waldo’s been wounded himself. He
passed word on to me – and asks that the clan avenge his insult.”
“What?” The Scott Clan released a collective gasp.
Edric’s eyes gleamed, and he said suddenly, “Wallace is in hospital, Waldo’s injured, and all our clubs
are getting shut down. Is this all related?”
Edric seemed to have said that on a whim, but everyone present began to sense that something was
amiss.
Hearing that, rage began to churn in Edmund’s eyes. “If he’s not dead, bring him here this instant!”
The Peak Hotel.
Upon returning, Baron placed Tracy on a wide bed, covered her up, and gave Yuri the news.
Tracy had been drugged, but after a good night’s sleep, she would be fine.
As he left the room, his phone rang.
“Chairman, sir. All of the Scott Clan’s clubs have been shut down. The evidence is undeniable. They
can pull all the strings they want; they’re not getting out of this.”
From the other end came a familiar voice.
