Chapter 19 An oath in the rain
Chapter 19 An oath in the rain
From his view on the penthouse, Baron saw Tracy take a phone call and rush off with Yuri.
“What’s going on?”
He frowned. He had the distinct feeling that something was amiss. “The sisters both look panicked, and
they’re in such a hurry. Something’s definitely up.”
With that, he turned and left the office.
Yuri kept her foot flat against the throttle all the way back. All that could be seen of her Maserati was a
white bolt zigzagging across the road.
Fortunately, it wasn’t rush hour yet, and traffic was light.
It would originally have been a half-hour drive, but it took Yuri only twenty minutes to reach their home.
Even from a distance, the sisters could see the crowd swarming around their doorway, and their
parents surrounded by security guards.
“You rat bastards, this is our home! You don’t get to throw us out!” Sherry howled, furious, arms
windmilling about her body.
“What is it that you want, Phillip?” Tracy sprinted off the car and screamed at him, shaking with rage.
Phillip stared at the two women as they stepped out of the Maserati.
The rest of the Perry Clan hadn’t yet caught wind of the Lewis Clan’s visit and generous gifts. Phillip
simply sneered, “Tracy, I knew you were a parasite, driving about with a million-dollar Maserati. No
wonder Granddad’s invoking his authority to cast your worms out. It's about time.”
“Oh, shut up! This is a betrothal gift for Yuri from the Lewis family, and it’s got nothing to do with me,’
Tracy raged.
A tremor ran through Phillip’s heart. Only the Lewis Clan, foremost elite among the Cona families,
could have afforded to give away a million-dollar luxury car. If that was true, then Yuri herself was
slated to enter into that elite family, jumping several rungs at once.
But at the end of the day, in response to the threat Tracy posed to his own person, the only thing he
could do was double down.
“Whether the car has anything to do with you doesn’t really matter anymore. Your three days are up,
and this is our old clan mansion. Now that you’ve been exiled, we are of course returning this property
to its rightful owner,” Phillip snickered.
Of all the direct descendants of the Perry bloodline dotting the area, not a single one of them stood up
for Tracy. Instead, they stood by, jeered, and watched.
Such were the fragile bonds between humans.
As her heart bled itself dry, Tracy pushed on, “If we were to be banished, the head of the clan would
still have to formally give his word. Word hasn’t even arrived yet – do you want us out that badly?”
“I’ve had it with you, bastard!”
Upon seeing her sister laid so low, Yuri finally exploded and flew at Phillip.
Phillip only sneered, “Know your place.”
Yuri found her way blocked by a pair of security guards. What hope did a lone woman have of getting
past two fully grown men?
“Take your hands off my sister!”
Tracy charged, but only ended up the same way as Yuri.
Phillip stooped to their side and grinned a gloating grin. “See, Tracy, now that the Samho Group is mine
– even if I destroyed it, it will never find its way back to your hands...”
Just as he trailed off into laughter, Tracy pushed a guard from her with a sudden effort, closed the
distance, grabbed Phillip by the elbow, and bit down.
“Ack...”
Phillip’s gleeful laugh turned into screeches of pain. The more he struggled, the more her teeth ripped
at his flesh.
“Let go of me, you bitch!” Flying into a blind rage, Phillip sent a closed fist hammering down towards
Tracy’s skull.
“Sis!” Yuri cried, unable to get close with a pair of guards in the way.
It was a testament to just how angry Tracy was to resort to biting.
Just before Phillip’s blow could land, a flickering shadow appeared.
With a sudden slap, Phillip found his wrist caught in a vise-grip, with his fist mere centimeters away
from Tracy’s cranium.
As they laid eyes on the newcomer, shock registered on the faces of everyone present.
“Baron!” Yuri looked tearfully up at the man’s silhouette.
Having expended enough of her wrath, Tracy raised her head to see a familiar face, looking down at
her regretfully, one hand still grasping Phillip by the wrist.
“Oh, it’s you, trash. Let go of me this instant unless you...”
Crack.
Before Phillip could finish, a clean, crisp snap rang out from the joint, followed closely by agony.
“Ahh!”
His shriek filled the entire garden.
Before he could scream again, another immense force crashed into his torso, sending him flying eight
meters away and crumpling heavily into the concrete ground.
Phillip’s eyes rolled back in his head and he fainted.
Baron marched up next to his prone form and pinched him by the nerve cluster on his upper lip,
snarling, “You don’t get off that easily.”
The unconscious Phillip sucked in a deep breath and opened his eyes.
“Ahhh!”
And the shrieking continued.
Everyone looked at Baron with bewilderment written across their faces.
What kind of human being was capable of sending an adult flying eight meters with a single kick?
That wasn’t the point. The point was – this man knocked his opponent out, then resuscitated him just to
endure the pain of a broken wrist.
What they didn’t know, however, was that if Baron hadn’t been holding back, Phillip would already be
dead.
Now that she got to see Baron punt someone into the air again – and for it to be Phillip, of all people –
it was the first time she’d looked at him in such a favorable light.
“If you don’t want to die, get out of here!” Baron thundered.
No one dared linger. One by one, the mob scattered.
Looking at Tracy’s helpless state, Baron felt a twinge of heartache.
“You bastard, beating up Phillip himself! Now Mr. Perry’s never going to let us off the hook! It’s all your
fault we were banished from the clan! Bastard!”
Sherry raised her hand, but before she could strike, Yuri stormed up to her and barked, “Enough!
“What is this? You’re not even concerned with everything they put Sis through, but whatever Mr. Perry
wants with you?”
Yuri’s emotions burst out of her as she confronted Sherry, sobbing even as she shouted, “The Perry
Clan’s already stepping on us from on high, but you’re still going to send Sis into the frying pan? Don’t
you feel even a bit of pity for her?”
At the moment, Tracy, who had been until then remained silent, lifted her head and spoke. “What you
said before. Did you mean it?”
In response, Baron stood up straight and swore solemnly, “If you so wish – I’ll give you the whole
world.”
Tracy’s stoic mask twitched and crumbled away, bringing with it a flood of tears. “I’m tired. I just want
someone to be with me... a man to shoulder this burden for me.”
Baron’s own heart wrenched as he heard her words. He leant over the tearful woman and simply said, This is from NôvelDrama.Org.
“Yes!”
With that one word, he turned to leave.
A jagged bolt of lightning split the sky, and a torrential downpour washed over the land.
Watching his silhouette disappear into the rain, Tracy could have held back the tide before she stopped
her tears. The sobs tore themselves out of her heart and lungs, as unrelenting as the coming
storm.
