Chapter 427 Lauren's Call
After all, it caused an uproar. Whether it was being targeted by reporters or onlookers or even having the police come directly to her office to take her away, it was an experience Harper had never encountered before. For a woman, it must have been terrifying. Harper shook her head. "Fortunately, it might be safer to go with them than stay at the company or go downstairs by myself." Her voice betrayed no fear or unease, but Benjamin's eyes blazed with intensity, as if they might ignite at any moment, and his handsome face remained cold and impassive. "Everything's fine now. Let's go home now." Harper did not respond but looked up at him. "Benjamin, I'm really fine, so don't worry about me."
She vaguely felt Benjamin's guilt and uneasiness. Under the circumstances, she actually did not want Benjamin to be distracted. He should focus all his attention on the collapse and finding the mastermind. Everything else was secondary.
Benjamin said okay in a low and deep voice before reaching out and taking Harper into his arms.
Curtis cautiously settled into the driver's seat. Not daring to peek at Benjamin and Harper in the back, he kept his gaze fixed ahead and whispered, "Mr. Martin, there's a phone call for you. I-It's from Ms. Davis. Due to her failure to reach you on your cell phone, she called me instead. Would you like to answer it?"
Harper instinctively looked at him with a frown yet remained silent, simply waiting for him to come to his own decision.
Benjamin was indifferent. He subconsciously wanted to refuse, but when the words came to his lips, he said, "Give me your cell phone."
Curtis nodded and handed over his cell phone at once.
Benjamin glanced at Harper and said softly, "I'll take this call. Sit in the car for a while, okay?"
Harper didn't say anything but nodded lightly in agreement.
Benjamin let go of her hand and got out of the car to answer the call. The car door closed, and Harper's expression became cold.
Not knowing why Lauren was calling, she asked Curtis, "Why is Lauren trying to contact him?"
"Ms. Davis didn't tell me, but it probably has something to do with Mr. Martin's suspension of all her work and concert."
rewrite Curtis was not sure, but his guess should be correct because this matter was urgent. Otherwise, Lauren would not have called him.Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
Frowning, Harper asked in surprise, "Has Benjamin stopped Lauren's work and concert?"
She learned that Lauren had been preparing for the concert for a long time.
Harper wondered if Benjamin was afraid that the sudden halt would break Lauren's heart.
Blinking her eyes, she had endless questions.
Curtis replied, "Yes. As soon as the video of Ms. Davis' interview was released, Mr. Martin instructed me to issue the order."
"Why did he do this?"
Harper was puzzled.
Curtis said, "I'm sorry, Mrs. Martin. I have no idea, but it should be because Ms. Davis made you the focus of public opinion by saying those confusing remarks in front of reporters. Mr. Martin is teaching Ms. Davis a lesson." Harper fell silent.
As for what Curtis had said, she naturally took half of it seriously and subconsciously ignored the rest.
Even if his words held truth, it was likely due to the Martin family becoming aware of Lauren's actions. Paul, Scott, and Lily showed great kindness to Harper, so it was natural for them to force Benjamin to take a stand. With this thought in her mind, Harper found everything was explained right away.
But she felt somewhat uncomfortable.
Outside the car, Benjamin listened expressionlessly to Lauren's crying without giving a response. After Lauren finished speaking, he said indifferently, "Do you believe you are helping Harper and the Martin Group? But, Lauren, all your words are backed by evidence. If Harper decides to hold you accountable, what do you think the consequences will be?"
