Chapter 854: The Importance of the Child

Yanis watched Nancy's reaction and nervously stood up, walking over to Nancy's side. "Are you okay?"

she asked.

Nancy furrowed her brow and looked at Yanis. "I... I feel like something's not right. Could I be going into

labor?"

As soon as Yanis heard this, she quickly called out, "Linda!"

Upon hearing Yanis's words, Linda leaned over from the side. "Yanis?"

"Where's Aunt Rivers? Nancy might be going into labor. We need to take her to the hospital!" Yanis

exclaimed.

Upon hearing this, Linda responded, "Aunt Rivers is trying on clothes. I'll go get her."

There was chaos and confusion as Yanis drove. From the store to the hospital, Yanis kept a tight grip

on the steering wheel.

The car stopped at the entrance of the hospital, and Yanis had Linda call for a doctor.

Soon, Nancy was wheeled onto a mobile bed and hastily taken into the delivery room.

Aunt Rivers took care of the necessary paperwork, and although Yanis had been pregnant before, she

had never experienced childbirth. Watching the doctors and nurses rushing around, her heart couldn't

help but tighten.

Linda stood by Yanis's side. "Yanis, is giving birth really that scary?"

Yanis shook her head. "I don't know."

Linda let out an "Oh." "I guess you really don't know."

"Aunt Rivers, have you called Nancy's husband?" Linda asked as Aunt Rivers approached them.

Aunt Rivers replied, "Yes, I called him. He's on his way."

Yanis had been in such a rush that she forgot to bring her phone. It wasn't until she calmed down that

she remembered she had made plans with Sandy.

"Linda, do you have your phone with you?" Yanis turned to face Linda.

Linda handed her own phone to Yanis. "The password is six-six."

Yanis took the phone and called Sandy.

After dialing the number, there was no answer from Sandy's side.

Yanis hesitated and sent a text message before making another call.

This time, Sandy quickly picked up the phone. "Yanis?"

"Sandy, I'm sorry. Something came up here, and it might take a while for me to go back. Are you still at

the store or on your way there?" Yanis asked.

Sandy responded, "I'm just one intersection away from the store."

Afterwards, Sandy asked, "What happened over there? Is it serious?"

"No, everything should be fine. I should be there in a while. Will you wait for me at the store, or should

you go to your sister's place first and I'll come find you after I'm done here?"

"Is Bonnie at the store? If she's not, I'll go to my sister's place for a while."

"She's probably still at home. You can go to her place."

Sandy hesitated and said, "Then I'll go to Bonnie's place later. After you're done, come over to

Bonnie's?"

Yanis nodded and replied, "Okay."

After ending the call, Yanis handed the phone to Linda and whispered, "Linda, do you want to go back

to the store first? I'll take a cab back later."

Linda said, "You didn't bring your phone, so how will you get back later? I'll take a cab back, and you

can drive back later."

The store was busy today, so Linda definitely couldn't stay here.

"Sounds good. You go back first, and I'll drive back later," Yanis agreed.

Linda nodded, bid farewell to Yanis, and went back to the store.

Yanis stayed at the hospital alone.

"Family of Nancy!"

About two hours after Nancy went in, the doctor came out and called for her family.

Nancy's husband stood up and greeted, "That's me."

"Vaginal delivery seems to be difficult for the pregnant woman. We suggest a cesarean section."

Nancy's husband responded, "Do whatever is best for the child."

When Yanis heard this, she couldn't help but glance at Nancy's husband's face.

"Then please sign the consent form for the surgery," the doctor handed the agreement to Nancy's

husband.

Without even looking, Nancy's husband signed the document. After signing, he turned to the doctor

and asked, "Will the child be okay?" Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.

"We'll do our best."

Yanis used to have a favorable impression of Nancy's husband, but his recent actions and those two

questions made Yanis's impression of him decrease significantly.

A child is a life, but Nancy's life is also important.

He didn't even show concern for Nancy's situation.

On the other hand, after the doctor went in, Aunt Rivers looked at Nancy's husband and said with a

serious tone, "What kind of words were those? Nancy would be heartbroken if she heard them."

Nancy's husband looked at Aunt Rivers and replied, "Why would she be heartbroken? I'm concerned

about the child, isn't that right?"

Aunt Rivers frowned. "Nancy is your wife, after all. How can you not show any concern for her?"

"Mom, the child is important! She's an adult. What is there to worry about?" Nancy's husband casually

remarked.

Aunt Rivers raised her hand and slapped Nancy's husband, saying, "What nonsense are you talking

about? Giving birth is like going through a life-and-death situation for women!"

Nancy's husband didn't respond, but his face still wore an indifferent expression.

Yanis stood on the side and felt that no matter what Nancy's condition was now, Nancy's husband was

only concerned about the safety of the child, not Nancy herself.

Yanis wanted to say something, but the words stuck in her throat.

She was just a stranger to Nancy's husband.

So, it wasn't appropriate for her to speak about their matters. Yanis held back and remained silent.

Time passed minute by minute.

There was still no news about Nancy.

However, after a while, a nurse came out and informed Nancy's husband that the child was safe, but

Nancy's condition was critical due to excessive bleeding.

Although Yanis didn't have a deep connection with Nancy, she couldn't help but feel worried upon

hearing this.

After the child was taken out, Nancy's husband kept staring at the child. Aunt Rivers occasionally

glanced at the operating room door.

It wasn't until after 4 PM that Nancy finally made it through the crisis and was transferred to the ward.

Yanis looked at Nancy lying on the hospital bed, opened her mouth but said nothing. She simply took

the opportunity when nobody was paying attention and reached out to hold Nancy's hand.

Nancy was still conscious and smiled silently when she saw Yanis, saying thank you.

Yanis shook her head, indicating for her to rest well.

Nancy's husband had been focused on the child the entire time. Only after Aunt Rivers reminded him

did he finally look at Nancy and said, "Rest well."

With just a simple sentence, Nancy's husband turned to look at the child again, without saying anything

else.

Yanis furrowed her brows slightly and said, "Mr. Rivers."

After hearing Yanis's words, Nancy's husband turned to look at Yanis and said, "Oh, you're Boss

Thompson from the jewelry store, right? Thank you for bringing them to the hospital today. I'll introduce

you to some business opportunities another day."
