Chapter 829: Maintaining the Status Quo
Olivia met Yanis's gaze and whispered, "Madison."
When Yanis heard Olivia's words, she took a while to regain her composure.
Olivia knew that this news might be difficult for Yanis to accept.
But that was the reality.
"Well, I won't disturb you then."
Olivia finished speaking and left the hospital room.
After Olivia left, it took Yanis a long time to snap out of her thoughts.
She had considered countless possibilities but never expected that she and Ivan would have such a
relationship with Madison.
No wonder Madison suddenly showed such aversion towards her.
Yanis had always thought that Madison opposed her closeness with Ivan because she thought Ivan
liked her and was afraid of them being together. She believed Madison resisted their relationship
because she didn't want the Baxter family to be embarrassed by her previous divorce.
Now she realized that it was because they were half-siblings.
Yanis wanted to laugh but found it difficult to find any humor in this melodramatic turn of events.
Zane stood at the door, contemplating whether to enter or not, but ultimately decided not to disturb
Yanis.
He waited outside for a while before turning to buy some food for Yanis.
When Zane returned to the hospital room with the food, Bonnie and Stella were already there. Zane set
the food on the table and said, "Let's eat something first."
Bonnie looked up when she heard Zane's voice and asked, "Is there enough for us too?"
Zane nodded, "Yes, I planned for Yanis to call you."
Bonnie clicked her tongue, "When did you become so considerate?"
Zane casually responded, "Yanis taught me."
Upon hearing Zane's answer, Bonnie and Stella exchanged glances.
Yanis was still lost in her thoughts about what Olivia had said, so she seemed absent-minded. Stella
and Bonnie took turns calling her name several times before she snapped back to reality.
"What's wrong?" Bonnie asked, looking at Yanis.
Yanis replied, "I was just thinking about something."
After Yanis spoke, she looked at Zane and asked, "Did you buy food for Bonnie and Stella?"
Before Zane could answer, Bonnie chimed in, "Your husband said he bought everything. I asked him
when he became so considerate, and he said it was because of your influence."
Yanis slightly curved her lips upon hearing Bonnie's words.
She was also surprised by Zane's response, but she had other things on her mind and didn't dwell on
it. She simply smiled faintly.
Bonnie had been with Yanis for so many years and could tell that something was bothering her today. It
was evident that Yanis had something on her mind.
However, Bonnie didn't ask in front of Zane and Stella. She reached out and helped Yanis get out of
bed, saying, "Let's eat first. I'm getting hungry."
As Yanis got off the bed, Zane stepped forward and supported her, guiding her to sit on the couch. He
personally brought over the utensils and handed them to Yanis.
When Stella finished eating, she received a call from Aurora and left early.
After that, only Zane and Bonnie remained.
When Bonnie was almost finished eating, she looked up at Zane and said, "Mr. Lawrence, are you
staying at the hospital tonight to take care of Yanis?"
Zane nodded, "Why?"
"Why don't you sleep in Bonnie's room tonight? Yanis and I can sleep here," Bonnie suggested.
Upon hearing Yanis's words, Zane glanced at her.
Yanis met Zane's gaze and said, "Zane, you go sleep in Bonnie's room. Bonnie and I will sleep
together. If Stella has something to do tonight, we won't let her come over."
Zane hesitated for a few seconds and then nodded, "Okay."
After finishing their meal, Zane conscientiously tidied up the table, cleaned everything, and then made
a call to have some things delivered.
"You two can chat for a while now. I'll go get some things," Bonnie said, giving them an opportunity to
be alone temporarily, using the excuse of fetching something from her own room.
Once Bonnie left, Zane looked at Yanis and asked, "What did she tell you?"
Even though Zane knew the truth now, he pretended not to in front of Yanis.
He thought Yanis would tell him immediately, but she seemed hesitant to speak, so he took the
initiative to bring up the topic.
After a few seconds of silence upon hearing Zane's question, Yanis finally spoke, "Zane, Ivan and I...
are siblings. Isn't that surprising?"
Yanis didn't intend to keep it from Zane; she just hadn't figured out how to bring it up before.
Now that Zane asked, she decided to tell him the truth.
After Yanis finished speaking, Zane lowered his head and embraced her, saying, "I'll be by your side,
always."
Yanis raised her hand and hugged Zane back but didn't say anything more.
Yanis remained silent, and Zane didn't continue the conversation. They simply held each other.
After a while, Zane let go and said, "How do you plan to handle this situation?"
Yanis knew what Zane meant with his words. She pondered for a few seconds before responding,
"Let's maintain the status quo. Since she didn't want me back then, she definitely doesn't want any
connection with me now."
Madison had some self-awareness and knew that Yanis wouldn't want any relationship with her, which
was why she said those things in front of Ryan.
But then again, what Yanis found difficult to adapt to was the relationship between Madison and Ivan.
They had known each other for nearly ten years, but in the blink of an eye, they became half-siblings.
Since Yanis met Ivan, she had always thought Ivan was older than her. Now she realized that she was
actually a little older than Ivan.
After hearing Yanis's response, Zane murmured, "Let's maintain the status quo. You have me."
Yanis nodded, "I know, I'm just not sure how to handle things with Ivan in the future. He..." Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.
She intended to say something more, but the words caught in her throat. "Let's leave it at that. Things
are fine as they are now. I'll pretend I don't know anything."
Zane nodded, "Okay."
Around ten o'clock, Bonnie finally arrived. "You should go now."
Zane checked the time, stood up, and looked at Yanis. He whispered, "Let me know if you need
anything."
Yanis replied, "Sure, go get some rest."
Zane nodded, turned around, and left the hospital room.
After Zane left, Bonnie sat on Yanis's bed, holding her pajamas. "You have something on your mind."
Bonnie made a statement instead of asking a question.
Yanis hesitated for a moment when she met Bonnie's gaze. "I just heard something that surprised me.
It's difficult to accept."
