As Yanis listened to Ivan's words, she nodded slightly. "I don't blame Aunt Baxter. From her
perspective, she was just worried about you."
Ivan looked at Yanis, opened his mouth as if to say something, but hesitated for a few seconds before Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.
swallowing his words. "She's always stubborn. Sometimes she doesn't listen to advice. After Mila told
me, I talked to her about it. I actually wanted her to come and apologize to you in person, but..."
"Ivan, it's not necessary. If a similar situation happened to me, I might have reacted even more
decisively than Aunt Baxter. Every mother wants their child to be safe, so I understand her concerns.
Besides, that incident happened because of me," Yanis interjected.
Ivan wanted to say something, but Yanis beat him to it. "Alright, let's not bring it up anymore. It's all in
the past."
Meeting Yanis' gaze, Ivan nodded gently. "By the way, you mentioned earlier that you wanted to call
me. Did you need something?"
Yanis responded, "I haven't been to the shop for the past couple of days, and Bonnie has sold a lot of
things. The display case is empty. I thought of going there to pick out some items."
"Well, I'm free now. Let's go together and take a look. I also wanted to go there," Ivan suggested.
Yanis checked the time on her phone and nodded. "Okay, wait for me a moment. I'll let Bonnie know."
Ivan got up and followed Yanis, but after walking a few steps, his phone started ringing. Instead of
going with Yanis to Bonnie's place, Ivan turned around and went to the entrance to answer the call.
It was a call from Mila.
Ivan picked up the phone. "Hello?"
"Did you go to Yanis' place?" Mila's voice came through the phone.
Ivan responded, "I just arrived a little while ago. I was planning to go with Yanis to the jewelry store. Is
my mom... awake?"
Mila murmured softly, "She just woke up a little while ago. She seems to be in a good mood. Do you
want to come and see her?"
Ivan hesitated for a few seconds. "Not for now. I don't want to risk another argument if things don't go
well. I'll wait until she's calmer."
After hearing Ivan's words, Mila responded softly, "Don't worry, I'll take care of Aunt Baxter over here."
"Thank you."
After Ivan heard Mila's response, there was a few seconds of silence before he finally said, "Mila, do
you have time tonight? I want to talk to you about our engagement."
After hearing Mila's words, Ivan remained silent for a few seconds and then replied, "Okay."
Ending the call, Ivan stood at the entrance and lit a cigarette, his eyebrows slightly furrowed.
Ever since the day he returned from the police station, Ivan had heard Madison constantly complaining
to Ryan about Yanis. But Ivan didn't feel like arguing with Madison again.
However, Madison's words at the time were harsh and hard to bear, so he couldn't help but retort. As a
result, Madison became so agitated that she fainted.
For the past few days, she hadn't been in good spirits. But she was still fixated on the fact that Ivan had
been detained overnight for getting into a fight.
Even though Ivan patiently explained to Madison over and over again, she couldn't wrap her head
around it. She believed that Yanis must have said or done something out of line to make Ivan so
devoted to him.
Their persistent conversation eventually led to another heated argument.
Madison ended up being taken to the hospital directly.
Due to certain physical deficiencies, she had to stay at the hospital.
During this time, Ivan hadn't visited the hospital at all.
It was only after that Mila told Ivan about the incident when Madison went to the hospital to confront
Yanis and got physical.
After hearing that, Ivan came straight to Yanis' place.
But Ivan never went to Madison's side.
Ryan made a few phone calls, but Ivan rejected them all.
The incident caused a strain within the family.
Ivan hadn't returned to the Baxter Residence for several days.
In truth, Ivan didn't quite understand why Madison suddenly had such strong objections towards Yanis.
According to logic, after the previous incident, and considering Ivan's compliance with Madison's
wishes to get engaged to Mila, Madison should have been reassured.
However, all along, Madison treated Ivan as if he were a thief. Every time Ivan called or mentioned
Yanis' name, Madison had a strong reaction, so strong that it seemed suspicious.
Lost in his thoughts, Ivan heard footsteps behind him and instinctively crushed the half-smoked
cigarette in his hand, tossing it into a nearby trash can before turning around.
"When did you arrive?" Bonnie came out from inside and greeted Ivan.
"Just a little while ago. Yanis said you were busy, so I didn't want to disturb you," Ivan replied, looking
at Bonnie. "Are you done now?"
Bonnie responded, "Just the usual stuff every day. Not busy enough, but still plenty of things to do."
Ivan observed Bonnie for a moment. "You don't seem to be in a good mood. What's wrong? Talk to me
about it, and I'll give you some free counseling."
Bonnie chuckled at him. "Oh, so you've learned mind-reading in the few days we haven't seen each
other?"
"Tell me," Ivan insisted.
"How about finding a place tonight and talking about it slowly?" Bonnie suggested.
Ivan hesitated for a few seconds upon hearing Bonnie's words. "Tonight might not work, I have plans
with someone."
"Who? Is it more important than me?" Bonnie asked.
Ivan replied, "Mila."
Bonnie nodded. "Well, she's your fiancée, so she definitely takes priority. Let's reschedule when you're
free. It's been a while since the three of us went out and had a good time. How about tomorrow night?
My treat."
"No problem. I'll definitely make time tomorrow night for Miss Cooke. I won't go anywhere even if
someone else invites me," Ivan assured her.
Bonnie patted Ivan's shoulder with her hand. "You're a good buddy!"
