Howling Hearts

Chapter 4

"Mate?" I heard her questioning next to me. My eyes turned into the size of saucers. The Beta ran through the crowd and

grabbed her and held her in bridal style. She had a big smile on her face even though all the She wolves were giving her a death glare. He picked her up and took her inside. Before I knew i she was out of my vision, leaving me there alone and shocked. Guess dreams do come true. I took out my phone to look at the time. It was 3pm and I had to go home.

All the females sat down on the floor waiting for the meeting to be done. So that maybe they could also be as lucky as Layla was. I was happy for her but I couldn't help but feel sad too. This meant she would be leaving with him. Leaving her new pack, as the females always went to their mates pack especially with someone like him who is a beta and can't leave his duties behind. She was my only friend. School would be so lonely without her. I feel selfish for feeling like this. I mean what if it was me instead, she would be happy for me. So that's what I will be for her. I took a slow walk towards home and thought about who my mate would be. Would our meeting also be the same as Layla's was and would he also accept me as openly as Layla's was? When Layla met her mate, it made me all the more excited about my birthday. Soon I will be in the loving arms of my mate. Since it never took too long to find one's mate after you have your 18th birthday. The oldest person someone was before finding their mate was 22.

I was day dreaming about my mate and what he would look like and I so wished for Asher to be my mate. Even though he is the soon to be alpha, I don't care. He is the only relationship I've ever had with a man. Even though it's more of a friendship than a relationship. But in my dream world it's different. I entered my room and plopped down on the bed to just dream a little longer. My room was average-sized with a single bed.

It had a big glass door that led to the small balcony. It was a very neutral and tidy room. It was a minimalist room with light gray-colored walls. It was my calming space.

Then I heard footsteps approach me. I turned my head to look towards my room door and saw Saige standing there leaning on the door frame. With a smug look. Her smugness was always put on to hide something else that she was truly feeling. This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.

"I just lost my v-card to him before the meeting." She stated in a sassy tone. "and what does that have to do with me," I retorted, putting on a cold front on trying to make like it didn't bother me but it did.

I was disappointed and heart sore. "Well now you have no chance of having him because he is mine." She turned around and left the room. I closed the door and hugged myself.

Not only does the guy I like not like me back, but my sister loathes me. I never understood why. I was crying as softly as possible and soon I drifted off, not knowing when.

Suddenly, my room door banged open and I was ripped from my sleep. My dream world was where everything was perfect, unlike here. Layla came in with a big smile on her face plopping down on the bed next to me, not even worried, she woke me.

"See anything different?" she said with a smile so big and her eyes shining with happiness. My eyes dropped to her neck as she was sticking it out. "He marked you already?" I asked in shock." YESSSS!" she screeched.

"I'm so happy for you". I forced a smile, hoping she wouldn't see my sadness. The happiness drained from her slowly, only leaving the slightest bit of a twinkle in her eyes.

"What's wrong?" I asked, worried. "I'll be leaving tonight and I can't take you with me. I'll be leaving my home behind as well as my family", She said as a tear was threatening to fall from her eyes. Her lips started to quiver in fear of what life might be like in the other pack.

She always feared loneliness. "Layla look at me". I grabbed her cheeks and lifted her eyes to me. "You'll be going to a new home with your mate. We've always dreamt of this. Plus, you will be well liked there and you're a mate to a beta, that's a big deal." And I meant each part of what I said. "What about you Scarlett?"

I sat back and got up from the bed. "Ag you know me, Layla, I'm fine with being by myself. So no need to worry about me. Plus, who said I can't come visit you". She gave me a giggle

"Your right Scarlett. Thank you for always making me feel better. You must come visit a lot because I'm sure being a beta mate is hard work. I'll need your moral support" She said with her happiness shining through her like if the sun had planted part of itself in her. It was almost blinding. "Come help me pack", She said while gripping my wrist and pulling me to her house. Soon it will be my birthday too.
