Chapter 26
Chapter 26
Chapter 26 The moment Thaddeus’s words left his mouth, a series of shrieks echoed through the restaurant. Jareth immediately thought of the woman he brought along, who would definitely not just sit quietly. Put her and Ilara together, and something was bound to happen. “I’m kinda busy right now, I’ve got a situation here. Let’s chat some other time, okay?” Just as Jareth was about to hang up. Thaddeus’s voice pierced his ears like a sharp knife. “Jareth, where are you?” Another round of screams interrupted, even more ear-piercing than the last. “I’m at the K Orld Hotel’s restaurant.” Jareth hurriedly returned to the restaurant. Upon opening the door, the scene he saw completely overturned his understanding. Ilana had his date’s hair in her left hand, her head pressed against the table, and her right hand holding her arms, rendering her immobile. It was like a scene straight out of a bada ss female cop arresting a criminal. Jareth initially worried that Ilana might be bullied, but seeing this, he felt his worries were unnecessary. So he crossed his arms, a smirk playing on his lips, and started to enjoy the show. “I’m going to file a complaint, I’m going to sue you! I’ll make sure you can’t survive in Elmsworth!” His date’s face was squashed against the table, her features distorted, but she was still screaming. “You better hurry then, or the slap mark I left on you will fade, and you won’t be able to determine the extent of the injury.” Evadne remained expressionless. If it weren’t for this woman trying to attack her, she wouldn’t even bother touching her. Seeing Jareth return, the woman immediately started crying for help, “Mr. Jareth, save me.” “Alright, that’s enough.” Jareth approached and pulled Ilana away. His tone carried no hint of blame, rather, and it seemed as though he was placating a child.
He didn’t see any problem with it, as he had once had four women engage in a street brawl over him. The main concern was that Ilana was his friend’s ex-wife, and he was worried that this incident might
embarra** Thaddeus. “Mr. Jareth. What do you mean enough?! This woman hit me. She slapped me, pulled my hair, and left me in a mess. You must get justice for me.” His female companion had her hair disheveled, and she was so infuriated that she was on the brink of madness. Evadne calmly sat on her chair, looking at the disheveled woman. Jareth’s gaze followed her long legs, finally coming to rest on her smooth-skinned feet in heels. He always had this quirk, perhaps because he was used to pretty faces. When choosing a woman, he’d always look at their feet first. Evadne’s feet were the epitome of perfection; they were simply too beautiful. “Did you provoke Ms. Ilana in some way?” Jareth asked, staring straight at Ilana. “Why should I apologize?” His date was so angry her face turned red. “You like me, Ms. Ilana doesn’t, so it can’t possibly be Ms. Ilana who started trouble.” Jareth reasoned naturally. Evadne raised an eyebrow slightly, thinking that Mr. Jareth was indeed smarter, much better than his annoying buddy Thaddeus. “Mr. Jareth, how could you treat me like this? I’m your girlfriend.” She cried and ran over to hug Jareth, but he stepped back in disgust, leaving her to stumble and almost fall. “Girlfriend? Says who.” Jareth’s gaze suddenly turned icy, causing his date to choke in shock. “Apologize and leave immediately. I don’t want to see you again.” In all of Elmsworth, everyone knew about Mr. Jareth’s temper. When he smiled, he could do anything. When he didn’t, it was trouble. “I’m sorry.” His date reluctantly apologized, covered her face, and scurried off. “I’m sorry, Ms. Ilana, for the unpleasant scene.” Jareth immediately put on a smile, his expression somewhat awkward. “Since Mr. Jareth had her apologize to me, I’m gonna let it go.” Evadne glanced at the watch on her wrist and stood up, “I need to get back to work, Mr. Jareth, feel free to stay.” This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
Jareth was a watch collector, and he instantly recognized the Richard Mille on her wrist, a limited edition worldwide. Seemed like Cas sius really spoiled her. If it were him, he wouldn’t necessarily be willing to part with it. She was even wearing such an expensive watch while doing manual labor. What a woman who didn’t know the value of things. “Ms. Ilana, when do you get off work? I’ll pick you up tonight.” Jareth eagerly followed her. “Don’t wait, you won’t get the chance.” 13: 22 D Evadne flatly rejected him, her eyes devoid of any emotion, “I won’t have dinner with you.” Jareth sighed slightly, “Why are you so decisive? Last time at the Sapphire Nights Club, I taught Ives a lesson for you. As a thank you, you won’t even have dinner with me?” Evadne laughed sarcastically, “I remember the one who helped me out was Thaddeus. Taking credit behind your friend’s back, that’s not very nice.” “Ms. Ilana, did I offend you in some way? Why can’t you give me a chance?” Jareth looked at her intently, “Is it because you already have Cas sius? Does he dare to publicly say you’re his girlfriend? I do.” “Mr. Jareth, although love doesn’t have a first come, first served rule, it does have moral standards.” Evadne said lightly, causing Jareth to turn pale. “I may not come from a noble background, but I have self-esteem. When I married Thaddeus, he was the only one in my heart. But now that I’m dating the president of the K Group, Cas sius. I can eat simple meals, but I can’t tolerate others messing with what’s in my bowl. Mr. Jareth, please respect yourself and stop interfering with my life, that’s it.” Only Evadne knew how bitter she felt saying these words. Even Jareth could see the suppressed anger in her eyes, causing his gaze to darken. Evadne took a deep breath, regained her composure, and walked out. Suddenly, she stopped dead in her tracks, her eyes widened. “Thad?” Jareth also looked surprised. How did he get here so quickly, did he fly in on an aircraft carrier?!
Right now, Thaddeus was standing at the entrance of the restaurant like a sharp sword, his tall figure giving off a chilling aura. The restaurant, already cooled by air conditioning, suddenly felt like an icehouse. Evadne looked into Thaddeus’s blazing eyes. Honestly, his eyes were a sight to behold. With the corners slightly upturned and a faint redness at the tips, they made her heart flutter uncontrollably. However, those eyes had only shown her coldness in the past three years, never once showing a smile, let alone warmth. She was too obsessed, hell-bent on moving a stone-cold man. Yet, after pouring her heart and soul into it, she found that the only one moved was herself. Thaddeus slowly moved towards her, his eyes slightly squinted. Hearing that Ilana was with Jareth, he instantly cancelled his afternoon plans and drove here alone. He happened to hear what Ilana said to Jareth, and his heart felt like it’d been hollowed out, an indescribable emptiness filled his chest. That ignited a nameless rage in him. He wasn’t one to easily lose his temper, but around Ilana, he couldn’t control his emotions. “Why are you here?” Thaddeus stared hard at Evadne’s face. “I’m working,” she turned her face away, her words brief. “Did you forget? We’re still married until the divorce is finalized, you’re still a part of the Abernathy family. You know the Abernathy and Ashbourne families are at odds, yet you’re working at the Ashbourne’s hotel. What were you thinking? Trying to pi ss me off, disgust me, and humiliate me?” Thaddeus took a deep breath, the veins on his cheekbones visibly throbbing. Jareth was about to speak, but Evadne beat him to it. “Well, so that’s what you think.” Evadne slowly turned her indifferent gaze to Thaddeus’s handsome face, “In that case, let’s get the divorce underway. That way, you won’t have to haunt me like a ghost, always giving me that nasty look.” “Ilana!” Thaddeus suddenly furrowed his brows. “You didn’t bring the paperwork, did you? Have Gordon send it over. I carry mine every day, thinking maybe today’s the day.”
Evadne’s eyes held a teasing smile as she breezed past Thaddeus without a hint of hesitation. Thaddeus’s eyes immediately turned red. He grabbed her slender arm forcefully, as if afraid she might slip away. But the next second, “Ugh!” Evadne felt a sharp pain, her forehead breaking out in sweat. Thaddeus was suddenly shocked, his body stiffened, his heart racing. He had accidentally dislocated Evadne’s arm.
