Chapter 688
Chapter 688 Coming After Me
His gaze fell upon the several cars haphazardly parked in the middle of the village road.
This was the only slightly flat main road around here. When Josiah first came to this place, he was considerate enough to park his car at the entrance of the village, where it wouldn’t cause any inconvenience. However, the owners of the cars currently parked here evidently hadn’t given it much thought.
After clearly seeing the haphazardly parked cars that nearly blocked the entire road, Lysander had no choice but to park Josiah’s car a bit further from the original spot. “There’s no other way,” she said. “If we parked at the original spot, it would cause trouble for the villagers coming in and out. Let’s leave it like this for now.
“Maybe veer off a bit, one of the owners of the cars here are specifically coming for me.” Josiah squinted, his
eyes flickering with a hint of danger.
A name flashed through Lysander’s mind, causing her to draw in a sharp breath. “Dillon? He arrived so quickly?” she exclaimed. Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
Although there had been no updates from the police yet, all the current signs pointed to one conclusion, they were undeniably connected to the body found in the pond.
Dillon rushed over at such a critical moment, it was clear that he had already received the unfortunate news of his subordinate encountering Josiah here.
Lysander recalled something that she had temporarily put to the back of her mind due to the aftermath of the crisis. “There’s something I need to tell you about the night you were fighting with the thugs…”
She shared with him that she had called Tiffany.
Josiah asked, “Did you call Tiffany just to save me?”
SURFA
His question was rather blunt, but he no longer had the luxury of being subtle or waiting for her to understand on her own. All he needed now was an answer.
Perhaps Lysander wasn’t as repulsed by himself as he had initially thought.
“Of course,” Lysander replied, “You were in imminent danger, and I’m pretty sure those people are related to the Lanister family. Who else could I have called if not Tiffany? I actually wanted to warn Dillon not to mess with me, but I didn’t have his phone number.”
With great effort, Josiah managed to suppress the urge to show his excitement in front of Lysander. However, the tumultuous emotions within him remained undiminished. Unable to entirely contain his joy, the corners of his lips twitched upwards as he said, “All right, I understand.”
If Lysander hadn’t brought it up herself, he would likely have remained in the dark forever, never knowing that she too, could worry for him.
Lysander thought he was expressing gratitude for the phone call, and responded nonchalantly, “But it seems that the call didn’t really serve any purpose, they still tried to kill you.”
Based on the later records, the thugs persisted in cornering Josiah for quite some time, only giving up when he managed to swim across to the other side of the pond.

If Tiffany had really made an effort to contact them immediately, things wouldn’t have escalated to this point.
“No, your call was incredibly useful.” Josiah glanced at the few cars, speaking softly. “Since they’ve already come to us, I have an idea…“
Supported by Lysander, Josiah made his way into the health center, each step he took was unsteady, giving the impression he had suffered some serious injury.
The nurses had initially gathered in the examination room, oblivious to the people in the courtyard. However, upon their return, they all started to emerge.
The nurse who was closest to Lysander couldn’t help but ask, “Dr. Thorne, weren’t you supposed to be out
Lysander quickly raised a finger, signaling subtly. She was merely making a show of supporting Josiah, but in reality, he was still bearing his own weight.
The young nurse quickly understood, and immediately stopped asking questions. Instead, she voiced her concern, “Mr. Guerra’s leg isn’t in bad shape, is it? The doctor had suggested taking an X–ray when setting his bone earlier. Now it seems to have gotten worse.”
The remaining two nurses quickly agreed and immediately went to fetch chairs for them to sit on.
Lysander quickly took it, saying, “Thank you.”
“Why are you being so formal with us? You can’t be on your feet for too long with that injury. Otherwise, it could lead to complications, and that would be troublesome. You must be careful to take care of it…”
Not far away, Dillon and Tiffany watched as the nurses crowded around Lysander and Josiah the moment they returned. They felt indignant, but also feared that something major might have happened.
The bodyguards flanking them weren’t the same thugs who had caused a ruckus earlier. They had all met Josiah before and were aware of his identity. At this moment, they were at a loss, turning their gaze towards their boss in confusion.
The bodyguards were bullies at heart, only daring to flex their muscles in front of ordinary villagers. But when it came to influential figures, they all turned into cowards.
Lysander gave them a sidelong glance without much reaction.
The first one to greet her, a young nurse, leaned in and whispered softly. “Dr. Thorne, these people claim they’re here for you. Blaine wouldn’t let them in, but they wouldn’t listen and insisted on waiting here. They’re definitely up to no good, aware that you’re from the city and probably trying to hush things up.”
“Is Blaine doing all right?” Lysander recalled the chief’s age and his resentment toward these people, fearing that something might happen to the elderly man in his fit of rage.
“Blaine was so infuriated that his face turned red, and he was coughing incessantly. Dr. Vazquez, fearing something might happen to him, persuaded him to leave first. Oh, and the woman who had just given birth was taken home by her husband earlier. Now, it’s just the few of us left in here. They heard that we came to provide support, so they weren’t too arrogant.”
The nurse spoke of Dillon’s crew’s behavior with a belly full of rage, wishing she could just grab the broom from the backyard and sweep these people right out the door.

Lysander softly reassured, “You all should head back to the dormitory first. I’m enough to handle things here. You’ve been holding up the fort while I was away these past few days. You deserve a good rest.”
The nurse
se expressed her concern, “How could this possibly work? If we leave and they decide to take action, you won’t have anyone to help you!”
Lysander raised an eyebrow. “Do you really think you, a young girl, can beat them?”
“I may not be able to fight, but I can certainly boost your couragel” The nurse patted her chest confidently. “If things go south, I can take care of myself, don’t worry about me.”
Lysander confidently stated, “They wouldn’t dare harm anyone who came to help. Since it’s Josiah who’s injured, let him do the negotiating.”
“All right then, you guys be careful, shout if anything happens.”
The nurses knew she never exaggerated, and so they reluctantly headed toward the dormitory, constantly looking back as they walked away.
Given that Josiah himself was present, even if Dillon had the courage of a lion, he wouldn’t dare to act out of line. However, the presence of the nurses might potentially hinder his performance.
After all. Josiah’s identity had not yet been revealed to the villagers.
Josiah was close to them, perfectly positioned to hear their conversation. Immediately, he cast a cold look at Dillon.
His gaze was devoid of any emotion, as if he had already figured out how to handle the situation.
Tiffany still had her usual timid demeanor, her bright eyes filled with confusion and fear. If Lysander hadn’t already relayed the phone incident to Josiah, they might have fallen for her act this time.
This exquisite facade, much like a doll’s, was indeed quite useful
Compared to before, Dillon’s mental fortitude had significantly deteriorated. His panic was evident to the naked eye. He irritably scolded the people who had come with him. “It’s all because of you useless lot. I asked you to solve the problems with the project, and what did you do? You’ve messed everything up!”
