37. A Fresh Start?
Braelyn’s POV
One second I was glancing at my watch and the next second I was pressed against the door. I didn’t even realise when the door opened and when Evan had pulled me in.
“God, I missed you!” He muttered once we broke the kiss.
“Dramatic puppy!” I chuckled. He pulled away to take a proper look at my face and playfully smirked at me.
“What did you just call me?” The grin on my face stretched wider when he picked me up and carried me to his sofa. He sat down with me straddling him. I bent forward before attaching my lips to his.
I had missed this so much. Being so close to him, kissing him, cuddling with him. I could really melt at the amount of love I could see in his eyes as I stared at me.
“When are you moving in?” I shrugged at his question, loving the feeling of his hand weaving through my hair.
“Bri was asking the same thing. I think by the end of this week, I can move in.” I had expected him to be glad at that. Instead a frown fell upon his face.
“That’s a long time.” I chuckled seeing him pout. Circling my hands around his neck, I rubbed my nose against his.
“No, it’s not.” He hummed in response before I remembered something.
“You heard from Ryan?” I asked, trying not to be distracted by his finger that was gently grazing the side of my face.
“About?”
“About Bri.” He narrowed his eyes for a small second as if thinking before giving a nod.
“Yeah, he wants to ask Brielle to be his girlfriend but he is being a pussy about it.” He raised a brow when I chuckled in response.
“Why does this sound so familiar?” A look of realisation came upon his face.
“I take it it’s the same with Brielle.” I was nodding even before he had completed the sentence.
“Do you think we need to help?” He stared intently at my face before dragging his thumb across my lower lip.
“Maybe…” His voice had gone down a few notes, making it sound even hotter than usual.
“But not now.” His warm breath was hitting the base of my neck. I released a shaky breath.
“Well I have decided something.” That didn’t stop his sweet torture.
“Can it wait?” He mumbled against my neck. I was seconds away from losing my senses to the warm feeling of his soft lips on my skin.
“No.” He groaned before resting his forehead on my shoulder in exasperation.
“I forget it everytime.” He sighed before pulling away and looking at me.
“Okay?” I took a deep breath to steady my thoughts.
“I am leaving my job here.” His face was blank for a second before confusion took over.
“What?” His hold on my face loosened.
“My job. I will resign.” I pressed my lips together, waiting for him to speak.
“Why?”
“I am looking for a job elsewhere. I have been called for an interview tomo-” I was cut off in the middle of the sentence.
“I want to know why.” His patience limit had snapped which wasn’t a hard accomplishment in fact.
“I…I just don’t want to work here anymore.” I shrugged.
“That’s what I am asking. Nothing was wrong a few days back. What happened now that you-” He cut himself off, his face showing that some kind of realization had set in.
“Mom.” He muttered, his jaw tense.
“What?” I was confused about what he meant by that.
“Mom is the reason, right? You’re leaving the job here because whatever she said that day.” It looked like he was having a hard time dealing with his annoyance. A sigh escaped my lips.
“Then how will you explain my being here with you? She didn’t just want me out of your office but also out of your life.” I completed with a small chuckle which was anything but out of humour.
“But it’s only after that day that you are telling me of this decision.” I shook my head at his claim. It wasn’t true. I had taken this decision long back.
“No, I was going to say it to you that day before your Mom came to your cabin.” His fingers rubbed his forehead out of distress.
“Why?” He retracted his hand from his face and stared at me.
“Because I want a fresh start.” I fiddled with my fingers. There was a long silence before I heard him gulp.
“I get it. It’s because I had humiliated you in front of the whole office. That’s the reason, right? Tell me the truth.” He looked so sure of his conclusion. I stared into his grey orbs before sighing.
“That’s not the only reason.” He lets out a bitter chuckle, letting me know that he didn’t buy it.
“Yeah, the whole office thinks you hate my guts and it would be weird for me when everyone would stare at me because suddenly I am with you, I am your girlfriend.” He raked a hand through his hair, a nervous habit of his.
“But there’s something more. I don’t want to work where you are the boss. I’ll feel like any promotion I will get, none of it will be earned by me. I don’t want that feeling.” He wasn’t looking at me. He was leaning back in his place, looking away somewhere into the kitchen.
“Say something.” I put my hand in his hair, gently caressing it.
“What should I say? You have decided everything. You made the choice by yourself.” I bit down on my lip, feeling bad this could upset him so much.
“I decided by myself because I knew you would understand me, you would support me.” He looked down at my hand that was in his with a frown.
“Evan?” He spared me a quick glance.
“Where’s your interview?” My forehead gently creased, having not quite seen that question coming.
“At the Price Industries.” He didn’t bother giving even a small nod.
“I’m sitting right beside you and you won’t even look at me?” He kept playing with my fingers. Maybe because I was in love with him but I found his angry expression extremely cute. I pulled my hand away and stood up.
“Fine, you don’t want to talk to me. I should go home perhaps and I don’t think there’s any further point in moving in with- ahhh!” I landed on his lap with a squeal when he pulled me down by my hand before he pressed his lips hard against mine.
……………………..
I peeled my eyes open. It was already morning. The sun rays were falling on Evan’s head, making the brown colour of his hair stand out more. His hot breath was hitting my shoulder as he lay there on his stomach. He looked peaceful sleeping with his mouth slightly parted. However, I only had a few minutes to admire his face because my bladder was painfully full.
I removed his hand from my waist carefully, not wanting to wake him up. I had to stretch my hands a little to get hold of his shirt that lay discarded there. Slipping into it, I made a beeline for the bathroom.
Coming back, I smiled seeing him still asleep. I climbed up the bed but before I could weave my hand through his hair, my phone beeped.
Braelyn, I would like to meet you somewhere for a talk, if that suits you.Belongs to © n0velDrama.Org.

She wanted to talk, that should be nice. My eyes involuntarily stole a glance of Evan before I typed a response.
Sure, let me know the address.
Star Cafeteria, City Square. Her reply came quickly.
Great, I’ll see you.
I put the phone down before letting out a sigh. I hoped that it would turn out well. I wanted nothing more than to make amends after the damage Kate had left us with.
