Her Betrayal

29. The Truth.

Braelyn’s POV

I was in my pjs watching a movie when the doorbell rang. On opening the door, I saw Evan standing there.

“Evan?” I looked at the clock to see eight at night.

“Brae.” He calmly acknowledged.

“What are you doing here at this time?” I asked going back to the hard mask I put on everytime I am near him.

“Come with me.” I unfolded my arms that were crossed against my chest.

“Now?”

“Now.” He stated firmly without blinking.

“I can’t, Evan.” How could I risk going with him at this time when every minute around him was dangerous for me. No matter how hard it was, I had convinced myself to stay away from him outside office hours.

“You can and you will come with me right now.” He grabbed my wrist and pulled me out with him.

“You can’t force me to come with you.” I exclaimed which seemed to fall into deaf ears.

“Bri!” Bri came out at his call and both of them nodded at each other like they knew something which I didn’t.

“Close the door behind you and call Ryan if you need anything.” He gruffly instructed Bri who again nodded.

“Wait! What’s happening?” I looked at both of them stupidly. Bri only closed the door behind her while Evan kept dragging me out.

“Evan, where are we going? I am not even dressed properly if you haven’t noticed.” I was letting myself be dragged knowing that I could never win against him. He is just too strong for me to put up a fight.

“Doesn’t matter.” He replied not bothering to look back. He opened the passenger door and somewhat shoved me inside before getting into the driver’s seat.

“Can I know where I am going in my pjs?” I asked as he drove off. Guess what he did! He ignored me.

“You know this is called kidnapping.” He again ignored me.

I folded my arms across my chest and huffed like an angry kid. He glanced at me once before going back to driving.

“What are we doing here?” I asked as I saw that we were at his house. He unfastened the seat belt and got out of the car. I got out of the car too. He again held my wrist and dragged me along.

“Evan, just stop it okay? You can’t drag me like a rag doll! And what’s this behaviour? Why are you ignoring me? I am asking you something! Why am I here?” I was yelling at him.

“To talk.” He gritted out after we were inside his house. I sighed in exasperation.

“To talk?” He nodded.

“About us?” He nodded again.

“Oh God! How many times should I tell you there is no us anymore? Why don’t you understand that we have nothing to talk about.” I threw my hands in the air in annoyance. I was so tired of hurting him and he was hell bent on not leaving me any other option.

“Stop lying damn it!” He yelled all of a sudden.

“Evan-” He raised his hand gesturing to not speak.

“I know everything.” My blood froze at that sentence. He knows everything? What does that mean?

“What do you know ?” I asked in a very low nervous voice. He took one menacing step towards me while I took one backwards.Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.

“Kate forced you to part from me.” My mouth opened in shock. He knew? How? I didn’t tell him. But Kate won’t believe it! She would make Bri suffer now.

“That whatever you said three years back wasn’t true.” I kept walking backwards with each step he took towards me.

“That you were never after my money.” My back touched the wall but he didn’t stop advancing.

“That you never had another man in your life after me.” He put his hands on the wall beside either of my shoulders , caging me between him and the wall.

“That you still love me as much as I do.” His minty breath was fanning my face. This proximity was affecting my senses.

“How do you know?” I squeaked out which seemingly angered him considering the clenching of his jaw. He pulled back the next moment and walked away a bit.

“Bri told me.” I cursed under my breath. How could she tell Evan everything without even thinking about the consequences!

“I told her not to.” As soon as those words left my mouth, Evan snapped his head towards me.

“Why ? That’s my question. Why couldn’t you do what she did? Why the hell did you not tell me?” His face held a raging look that could scare anyone.

“If you know everything then you must know why I couldn’t tell you.” I meekly said.

“Come on Brae , you can’t possibly be scared of her threats. Fine, I understand that back then you didn’t have the chance to talk to anyone but what now? I had been repeatedly asking for answers, for some clarification but you didn’t give me , why? Do you seriously not know how powerful I am? If you had told me of all this, do you think she could frame Bri for just anything and get away with that? For God’s sake Brae, Kate doesn’t stand a chance against me.” He threw his hand in the air in frustration. Of course he could bring Kate down if he wished to but I didn’t know if he would have believed me after everything.

“I thought you wouldn’t believe me.” My voice was extremely low. With each exchange of words I was feeling less confident.

“Thought! You thought ! Then why was I demanding answers from you if I wouldn’t have believed you? Yes, I thought that Kate is my best friend, a well-wisher, but if you would have accused her of something so huge, I wouldn’t have ignored your words. You know why? Because you are the one who’s saying it. I would have tried to find out the truth only because I want to support you, I want to trust you.” His accusing gaze was too strong for my comfort. With each passing second I was feeling stupider than before.

“I don’t understand Brae, I have so many questions in my mind. Tell me why didn’t you try to contact me in the past three years?” His deep breaths showed that he was trying to control his increasing anger.

“I tried contacting you.” I mumbled.

“Never.” His response was spontaneous. He sounded so sure he was ready to bet anything on it.

“I did. I did Evan. That very night when I learned that the complete thing was a story set by Kate only to sabotage our wedding, I came to your house to tell you everything, to say that I never meant any of those words.” This was the longest I had spoken since I was here.

“Then why didn’t you?” The curiosity in his tone didn’t go unnoticed by me.

“Your Mom, she told me that you were drunk and not in your senses. She told me not to ever show my face to you and your family. She said how I broke you into pieces and it was so damn true! The pain that reflected in her voice and the hatred her eyes shining in them for me was too much to bear, Evan. I couldn’t come again. I felt guilty.” I looked away, not able to bear his intimidating stare.

“So you gave up on us?” I slowly looked at him and gulped painfully.

“You didn’t want to talk to me.” His face turned into confusion as those words left my mouth.

“What?”
