Chapter 26 – He Found Out!
Hearing his unexpected question, Stephanie Ruan subconsciously froze for a second before continuing with the food preparation.
She then looked up at him with a natural smile, “I’m planning to set up a regional office here! Why do you ask?”
Knowing that she had cleverly diverted the main topic, Javier Zhong decided to ask explicitly, “I don’t think you came back just to do that. What made you return after so many years?”
“…”
Earlier, he had deliberately asked Isaac Wen to take Mia Xue out of the house just so he could speak to Stephanie Ruan in private.
Being a smart lady that she is, Stephanie Ruan could guess that he must have already caught on to something about her.
But she is unwilling to throw in the towel just like that. “This country is where I grew up in. No matter how near or far I travel to, I’d always find myself wanting to come back.”
Well, although this is not the main reason for motivating her to return to Country C, she is also not lying when she said those words to him.
However, Javier Zhong is obviously not buying her words!
In a slightly impatient tone, he broke the news to her. “Albert Liu said you went to find him. I heard that we are looking for the same guy.”
“!!…”
-Thud-
Stephanie Ruan ‘slammed’ the bread knife on the table and looked at him with a much colder smile, “What is it that you want to ask?”
Wasting no time, Javier Zhong questioned her directly, “Are you investigating your family’s accident?”
“And you are staying close to me hoping to find more leads?” Leaving her with no opportunity to react, he quickly added.
With a heavy pause, Stephanie Ruan replied calmly, “So what if I am?”
It is only a matter of time that Javier Zhong knows about her entire plan. As such, she is no longer bothered by it anymore.
Because the rule of the game is that she would not allow anyone to stop her from moving forward!
Upon hearing that, Javier Zhong walked around the large kitchen island and arrived beside her.
This time round, he spoke to her with a gentler voice. “Listen to me, back out of this before it is too late. This is too dangerous.”
Having a brief understanding of the people involved as well as the complexity of this investigation, he did not want to see Stephanie Ruan put her life at risk.
He knows that those people have no morals and are extremely violent and heartless! They are willing to do anything in exchange for a large sum of money!
This means to say, to kill someone, they would not even bat an eyelid to do it!
“…”
However, what Javier Zhong said to her is in complete contrast as to what she is thinking.
Shaking her head with disapproval, Stephanie Ruan immediately told him off, “Don’t tell me what to do!”
With that, she brushed past him angrily and was about to leave, until Javier Zhong chased after her and grabbed her arm.
“Don’t you care about your life at all?!” He raised his voice slightly.
“Leave me alone! I have nothing to lose anyway.” With a determined look, Stephanie Ruan removed his hand from hers and left the kitchen.
True enough, with her back already up against the wall, she really has nothing left to lose!
If she does not avenge her family members now, do you think she even has the mood to do anything else?Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
No one could understand this big burden that is only left for her to carry…
But people often said that vengeance only brings comfort and closure to those who are alive.
Well, I guess this is somewhat true…
-Sigh-
Staring at her back in despair, Javier Zhong could only pick up from where she had left off and continued with the final preparation for the food.
When he brought the dish up to her bedroom, he saw Stephanie Ruan sitting on the sofa and vetting through some documents on her tablet.
Not only that, she had also put on her bluetooth earphones, as though it is a hint that she did not want to talk to him.
“…”
Placing the plate down on the coffee table, Javier Zhong strolled over and sat next to her.
“Have some food first…” He gently removed one of the earbuds and spoke to her.
Without sparing him a glance, Stephanie Ruan responded indifferently, “I’m busy.”
“I’ll feed you.”
As though he had already long expected her to say that, Javier Zhong instantly replied her and began to slice the food into smaller pieces.
Bringing the food nearer to her mouth, he signalled for her to eat it, “Here…”
This is the first time Javier Zhong is feeding someone and it is indeed an extremely rare sight!
Anyone who knows him and has personally witnessed this scene would not dare to believe their eyes!
In fact, they might even be so wild to imagine that this man is not the real Javier Zhong they know, but his long-lost twin.
But seriously… how much must he love this woman to continuously break rules that he has never broken for anyone before…
This is really so unlike him… in a good way of course!
On the other hand, Stephanie Ruan does not seem to appreciate his thoughtful initiative. “I’ll eat it on my own. You can leave it there.”
Not aware of how Javier Zhong’s feelings have already started to change for her, she felt that there is no need for them to act like this in private.
There is no one around who is looking at them anyway! Furthermore, she is still unhappy with what he had said to her earlier in the kitchen.
“Mmm??…” Unwilling to give up, Javier Zhong insisted for her to take a bite first.
Seeing his persistent attitude, Stephanie Ruan is left with no choice but to appease him and eat from the fork which has been hanging in mid-air for quite some time.
With the corners of his lips raised, Javier Zhong then picked up the glass of orange juice in front of them and handed it over to Stephanie Ruan, who had already brought her attention back to work.
“Mmmm??…” He said to her again.
Furrowing her eyebrows, Stephanie Ruan took a deep breath and turned her head to look at him.
“Javier Zhong, do you not have anything better to…”
-Ring-
Before Stephanie Ruan could finish lecturing him about the poor use of time, his ringing phone has interrupted her train of thoughts.
“Javier, today is the weekend! Are you coming back for lunch later? I’ll ask the chefs to cook all of your favourite dishes…”
Hearing his grandmother’s words, Javier Zhong let out a soft sigh and took a few seconds to respond to her. “Grandma, I…”
“Bring Stephanie over as well! Grandma misses the two of you… Come over and accompany this old lady later alright?”
Even though he did not use the handsfree function, Stephanie Ruan is sitting close enough to hear what Grandma Zhong had said over the phone.
“…”
Sensing his hesitation again, Stephanie Ruan took the phone from his hand, “Grandma Zhong, don’t worry, we will be there later…”
While she continued to speak to his grandmother, Javier Zhong looked at her with a complicated gaze.
