Chapter 21
He who must not be named
“I told you, I was out with friends… I guess we got carried away and I didn’t realize it was late until later. Don’t be upset.”
I sighed, “What time did you get home then?”
“That depends, what time did you leave mum?”
“Lily!”
“I’m kidding!” she laughed. “stop being such a worry wart.”
“Did Sam tell you about the accident yesterday?”
“Uhh no, she didn’t mention anything. What happened?”
My eyes fell to my injured arm, currently wrapped up with a bandage. The pin had done more damage than I thought possible. “Nothing serious, but I’m moving mum tomorrow. We can’t wait around till dad gets back.”
“Alright.” her voice sounded solemn. “I’ll ask Sam how I can help-”
“No, YOU will be going to school, I don’t care about your senior nonsense.”
From the distance, an arm moved in the air drawing my attention. Hannah. That was weird, I wasn’t supposed to see her for another couple days. Maybe she had news for me.
I raised an arm to show I had spotted her before she put her arm down and strolled towards me. She was holding a box in her arm and was grinning as she walked to me. “…Myra!” Lily yelled, drawing my attention again.
“Right yeah,” what was I saying? “Go to school, I don’t want to come over and see you there okay? Love
you.”
“Lily?” Hannah asked as she handed we one of the plastic cups she was with.
“Yeah thanks. I went over last night and she was heading out, can you believe she was out all night.”
“You know teenagers…what’s up with your hand?”
“Little kitchen accident, nothing to worry about.”
“Did you at least eat after your accident?” she raised her brow at me.
“I planned on getting burgers across the street after the shoot.” I lied, scrunching my nose at her.
“And that’s why I got you these.” She extended a box of cupcakes to me from our spot. “You seemed to like them well enough last time.”
” could marry you
“Save the ring till I find you a job.” She answered drily. That reminds me, the rumor has been confirmed, even better…there’s word that they plan on getting a few actors from this show,
“One more step in the right direction that’s good news–that’s great news!”
I was putting everything I had to make a year’s payment for my mum’s stay, FHEEDED this job. My pb M/ optimism was evident on my face.
“What’s going on Myra, Other than Pl what I know, you neem under a lot of stress A problem shared is one half solved, you can talk to the.” I looked at the only female friend I was able to make in my whole adult life. Even when I tied to keep my life separate from her it always ended up at her table.
Tm moving mum to a special care facility tomorrow and I don’t want Lily to stay alone in the house whate she’s gone, but I don’t want her to stay in my apartment because..”
She nodded her understanding But she didn’t know half of it. If Pierce called that he was coming over 1 wasn’t going to lock her out or send her to buy cookies like I was living in a whorehouse.
“I don’t want to drag her into that drama,” I said simply. I don’t know about problems getting solved, but saying it out loud definitely felt better. I let out a big sigh, my shoulders sagging in relied and bit. first cupcake.Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
“She could just stay with me.” I paused my chewing and looked up at my friend’s expression. There was no hint at a teasing smile.
“No.” I started to refuse
“Oh come on, I want her there, Damien’s hardly in the house. It’s not a problem.”
“I can”
“And it’s not permanent, you said it yourself, it’s just for a little bit. Just accept the help Myra.”
My face softened. “Just until I sort out my problems with… him.”
“Yeah”
She giggled as I hugged her, crushing the cupcakes between us. “You’re welcome.”
An alarm rang interrupting us. “Well that’s my time. I’ll text you later. Okay? I’m gonna be really busy this week, but once Lily’s ready to move, you let me know so I can pick her up.
I yelled another thank you as she walked away. It was only when I spotted Adams that I noticed Sarah watching me from the side. She hurriedly looked away when she discovered she had been caught. What was her deal?
“Nice of you to finally join us, Myra.” Lancaster said. I shrugged apologetically. “Okay everyone, you know what to do, to your places please. I’d like to get this done before midday.
“I think I miss the other guy.” Adams whispered, grinning at me. same buddy. same.
I was sure Lancaster was pleased when we wrapped up that day’s production before twelve. Of course he would never show it on his face. I pulled the ballet socks I had on my feet when Adams popped in my general sight, startling me.
“You’re still here? You usually disappear to hang out with your on and off girl, Jessica.”
“I haven’t spoken to Jessica in several months.”
“Rita? I donno, whatever babe’s on your arm this period.” I struggled to pull the other off.
“Avery, and you know I haven’t seen her in a while.” He stilled my struggling hand and helped me with the stocking
“Right.”
“Do you have anything planned for the rest of the day?”
I was going to help Sam pack some of mum’s stuff into boxes, but I thought our shoot was going to take longer, So I told her I would show up in the afternoon. I wasn’t too eager to get to that chore myself.
“I do actually, but I have a little time to spare,”
“Great. You can have brunch with me. I spotted a nice coffee shop across the street.”
I thought about Pierce’s threat and brushed it aside. I was having meals with Adams for a while after our shoots. This was nothing out of the ordinary.
I had gotten my burger with fries and Adams, his chicken wrap when Jace appeared in front of us
“My favorite. Thanks for ordering.” he said with a grin, pushing me aside as he slid into the booth beside
