Chapter 18 Confess to Friend
After leaving Hill Villa, Evelyn held the crumpled divorce agreement in her hand, her eyes turning scarlet.
She gazed out of the car window and rolled it down, letting the wind blow against her face.
She didn’t need to imagine the shamelessness of the Graves family because she knew she would witness it every day from
now on.
Evelyn closed her eyes, recalling what Jerry had done to her just moments ago. He was the man she had once been infatuated with, finding happiness in his hugs and gentle, restrained kisses. But now, his touch left her feeling repulsed and cold all over.
Glancing at the time, Evelyn realized there was still plenty of time before Huston’s 8 PM deadline.
She decided to call her friend Grace. They met at Hilton Café. This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Before Evelyn could even sit down, Grace asked, “What’s wrong with your mouth?”
Evelyn was confused. She took out a small mirror from her bag and examined herself. She noticed a scab on the corner of her
mouth.
Gently touching it, Evelyn felt a slight twinge of pain.
“Oh. A dog bit me.”
Grace knew that Evelyn hadn’t been back since she caught Jerry and Maura in bed.
“He couldn’t find me, so he called my mother. I was afraid he would cause a scene, so I went to confront him. But I didn’t know things would turn out this way.”
“Damn, he’s such a jerk! How dare he complain to your mother after cheating on you?” Grace picked up her coffee, taking a sip, “He didn’t hurt you, did he? Besides that thing on your mouth?”
Evelyn shook her head, “He failed. Maura and Nora came. They almost walked arm in arm. It was disgusting to see. But I suppose their arrival did save me this time.”
“I’m not surprised by how close they could become. They probably have a lot in common. In any case, it’s good that you’ve decided to divorce. It’s better to live on your own than spend your life with a jerk like Jerry. Besides, you’re still young! There are plenty of good men out there waiting for you.” Grace attempted to lighten the mood.
Evelyn lowered her eyes slightly, stroking her coffee cup. “Grace, I need to tell you something.”
“Yeah?”
“I… I’m seeing Huston.”
“Wha-?!” Grace glanced around the café, then she spoke in a hushed tone, “Oh my god, Jerry did do something to your head, didn’t he?”
Otherwise, how could Evelyn utter such nonsense?
Evelyn looked up and smiled, though it wasn’t a relaxed smile. “No. Huston offered to help me file a lawsuit and asked me to go out with him.”
Grace looked into Evelyn’s eyes. They had been classmates since high school and had been through many things together.
At that moment, Grace knew that Evelyn was serious.
