Fated to the Ruthless CEO

The Aftermath

Two weeks later, Devlin rushed towards the entrance of the emergency room. “Where is my wife, Amber Wesley?” He anxiously inquired of a passing nurse on his way to the emergency room.

“This way, sir,” the nurse replied, her voice filled with reassurance.

“How is she doing? Is she alright?” He hadn’t had the chance to ask marmee earlier when he received her frantic call from his office. She had only mentioned that Amber was bleeding, and he couldn’t make out the rest of what marmee had tried to convey. Without hesitation, he had left his office and sprinted to the hospital where his wife was.

“Sir, the doctor will provide you with an update shortly.” The nurse led him to a curtained area. There, he saw his wife lying on a hospital bed, with marmee appearing deeply worried by her side.

“Marmee, what happened?” He rushed to her side, wrapping his arms around her in a tight embrace. Then, he turned his attention to Amber, who managed to give him a weak smile.

“She slipped on the floor and hit it pretty hard,” marmee explained.

“Babe, how are you feeling? Are you in pain?” He carefully examined her for any signs of injury or wounds.

“Hey, I’m okay. Don’t worry. It was just a clumsy slip. I landed on my bottom, and the next thing I knew, I felt a sharp pain here.” She pointed to her belly. She gently touched Devlin’s face when she saw the concern in his eyes.

“I’ll be fine. The doctor will be back soon. He already checked me earlier.” Devlin only took a deep breath determined to be strong for his wife. He couldn’t shake the guilt he felt for not being able to protect her, especially after what happened with Harrison.

Two weeks had passed since that dinner with Agent Smith and Abby. Harrison had been in jail ever since he was cleared by the doctor, and all his accomplices were also put in jail. Meanwhile, his father and brother were currently out on bail. They were scheduled to face trial soon. Their arrest had been big news for a few days, but the media frenzy had since died down.

Just when he thought things were going back to normal between him and Amber, he found her in the emergency room. Devlin was terrified when he learned what happened to Amber. That morning, he had left her healthy and happy. They even shared a long, passionate kiss before he left for his office.

He refrained from asking both his wife and marmee, as they seemed more worried and scared than he could bear. Instead, he sat by Amber’s side, holding her hand and offering reassurance, even though she appeared really pale.

Half an hour later, the doctor finally arrived, his presence bringing a mix of anxiety and anticipation. He examined Amber once again and asked her a series of questions. After what felt like an eternity, he finally turned to Devlin with a reassuring smile.

“Mr. Wesley, your wife is going to be just fine,” the doctor said, relieving the heavy tension in the room, “Mrs. Wesley had a bit of a scare, but she’s out of harm’s way now. She experienced some bleeding, but it’s nothing to be overly concerned about. We’ve taken some tests on her, and she should recover soon.”

Devlin let out a sigh of relief, his shoulders visibly relaxing. He turned to Amber, who was still looking pale but seemed to be feeling a bit better with the doctor’s words.

“And there’s one more thing,” the doctor added, casting a reassuring glance at Amber. “Mrs. Wesley is 4 weeks pregnant.

Marmee gasped out loud, too overwhelmingly happy to put words in her mouth. Devlin’s eyes widened in surprise and then filled with joy. He glanced at his wife, whose face broke into a radiant smile. She was teary-eyed. They exchanged glances that was a mix of relief, happiness and excitement.

The doctor turned his attention to Amber, addressing her directly. “Now, since you’re pregnant, you need to be extra cautious. I recommend that you take it easy for a while – no strenuous activities and please prioritize rest whenever possible. We’ll closely monitor the baby’s condition to ensure everything is proceeding as it should. I am going to give you vitamins for you and the baby.”

Amber and Devlin both nodded in agreement, their concern shifting to their unborn child.

“You can go home now. Should you experience any unusual symptoms or discomfort, please don’t hesitate to contact us immediately. Also, we’ll schedule a follow-up appointment to assess the baby’s progress.”

The doctor excused himself afterward to attend to other patients. Devlin went to his wife and hugged her tightly. He, too, couldn’t help but shed tears of joy at the thought of their impending bundle of joy.

And marmee found it difficult to contain her emotions.

“Marmee, please don’t cry. Your wish has finally come true,” Amber said, gently wiping away the tears from her grandmother’s face.

“I’m just so thrilled for you, my child. Knowing that you have a loving husband who will take excellent care of you puts my worries to rest. And now, a great blessing is coming your way. I know you are going to be a great mother. And you, young man, are going to be a great dad to my great-grandchild.” Marmee said between tears and laughter, overwhelmed by her emotions.

“Thank you so much, marmee.” Amber gently hugged her grandmother once more.

“You did great, my child!” Marmee whispered.Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.

“Marmee, why do you keep crying? This calls for a celebration,” Devlin interjected. He knew they were simply overwhelmed with happiness.

After Amber got discharged, they all headed back to the mansion. As soon as they entered, the place was adorned with decorations to celebrate Amber’s pregnancy. There were colorful balloons, a banner reading, “Congratulations, Amber & Devlin,” and a long table overflowing with delicious treats.

Amber was utterly astonished that Devlin had managed to pull off this celebration party for her in such a short notice. She was speechless for several minutes.

Devlin’s mom greeted Amber with a warm hug. “Amber, how are you feeling now?” she asked, her eyes glistening with tears of joy. “I can’t wait to see my grandchild.”

Devlin’s father joined the conversation, patting Devlin on the back. “Son, you’ve come a long way. Your mother and I are thrilled for both of you.”

Dalton grinned and handed Amber a beautifully wrapped gift. “This is for the little one,” he said, looking genuinely happy to be an uncle. “I am sorry, Raven could not make it today. She is still in her parent’s house.”

After exchanging some words with Devlin’s family, Amber was approached by Abby. “Congratulations! Everyone here is so excited about your pregnancy.” She quipped excitedly.

“Thank you so much for coming here. I am glad you made it.” Amber learned that Abby is working right now on another mission.

Amber was also greeted by a group of her trusted employees from New York. They had been in Seattle for several days now since Amber and Devlin made the decision to relocate her company, with the New York office now operating as one of their branches. Devlin played a key role in overseeing this transition. Given his stake in her company, he had a solid understanding of its operations, which contributed to a relatively seamless transition.

As the evening went on, conversations and laughter filled the mansion. Devlin and Amber sat on a cozy sofa, surrounded by their loved ones. Devlin simply whispered into Amber’s ear, “I love you so much and thank you for this great blessing.”

Amber leaned in and kissed him, her eyes shimmering with happiness, “I never imagined life could be this beautiful. It’s all thanks to you.”

The night continued with heartfelt toasts and well-wishes, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in their lives.

Later that night, when the last of the visitors had departed, Devlin ascended the stairs to the master’s bedroom. His wife had been sound asleep. She had excused herself even in the midst of the lively celebration earlier. She attempted to stay up, but the weight of her pregnancy had taken its toll in recent days, leaving her fatigued.

Devlin approached the bed and, with affection, gazed upon his wife’s serene face. She slumbered peacefully, a stark contrast to the joyful chaos that unfolded downstairs. His attention shifted to her still flat belly. He couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of awe and love, prompting him to lean down and tenderly kiss his wife’s belly. He ensured his movements were as gentle as a whisper, so as not to disturb her.

With a heartfelt smile, Devlin retreated to the bathroom to freshen up, taking a moment to collect his thoughts and revel in the anticipation of the journey that lay ahead. Soon, he would be a father, and their lives would change for the better. He is going to make sure that he will be a great husband and a father.

He joined Amber in the bed after he finished in the bathroom. “Thank you so much, wife. You’ve brought so much joy and happiness into my life.” He silently thanked his late grandmother, a wise and loving woman, who had played a major role in making their love story possible.

A smile spread across his face as he lay in the embrace of his wife. Their love was like a warm, comforting blanket, wrapping them in a cocoon of affection and security. As he slowly drifted to sleep, he held her tightly, cherishing the peace and contentment that her love brought him.
