That night, Devlin and Amber retired to sleep with great happiness in their hearts. Despite all their problems, something great and positive had happened. They were both relieved and overjoyed that Devlin’s parents had come to make amends with their son. Amber snuggled even closer, contentment washing over her. “I look forward to that day. And I promise to be the best mother I can be.”

Devlin gently kissed her forehead. “And I’ll be the best father, just like you’ll be the best wife.”

As they drifted to sleep, their hearts were full of love and hope for the beautiful life ahead of them.

Morning came, and Amber stirred in her sleep. Finding the bed empty beside her. With a sigh, she threw off her warm covers and decided to start her day. The soft rays of the morning sun filtered through the curtains as she stretched and yawned.

She couldn’t help but wonder why he had taken over the kitchen when they had a team of cooks and maids at their disposal. She scanned the kitchen, expecting to see the head cook and the maids bustling about, but it was just the two of them.

“Well, I’ve given our staff a brief break from the kitchen duties,” Devlin explained, moving closer to Amber. His warm, reassuring presence filled the space between them as he placed a tender kiss on her lips, leaving her feeling pleasantly lightheaded. “I wanted to cook breakfast for my beautiful wife today.” Amber’s heart swelled with love and gratitude as she looked into Devlin’s eyes. On their way to Devlin’s office, his secretary called to inform him that he had guests waiting for him in his office. He is surprised to know who they are.

“What’s wrong? Is everything fine?” Amber noticed how Devlin’s demeanor changed from calm and cheerful while driving the car to suddenly being surprised and serious.

“Everything is fine, babe. It has been a series of unexpected surprises for us since we came back.” he replied enigmatically.

Amber’s curiosity was piqued. “What is it about?” she inquired.

Devlin maintained his enigmatic smile. “You’ll soon find out, babe.” He continued driving in silence, leaving Amber to wonder. She decided to keep quiet and attempted to clear her mind of any negative thoughts.

The moment they entered the office, Amber saw a familiar face who almost resembled her husband. Of course, it’s Dalton Wesley and his lovely and very pregnant wife, Raven.

Devlin casually greeted them but it was Amber who was extra friendly to their guests. She wondered why Dalton and his wife didn’t come last night with their parents.

“So, it’s been a while. To what do I owe this unexpected visit from you?” Devlin chuckled, but his eyes looked serious. Of course, the brothers had a long history of a silent feud between them.

“Come on, Devy. Is that how you received a family?” Dalton replied back, a hint of mischievous smile on his face.

“We found out that Amber is in town. And we have been wanting to visit you guys.” It was Raven’s gentle voice that broke the tension between the brothers, her hand gently resting on her rounded belly.

“And mom and dad called last night. We were out of town. If we were only here, we could have joined you for dinner as well.” It was Dalton with a friendly tone this time but a glimmer of regret in his eyes.

Amber, always the peacemaker, chimed in, “Well, we’re delighted you’re here now. We missed you guys at dinner, but let’s make up for it. What do you think? A family dinner soon?” She looked at both Dalton and Raven with a big smile. Then, she gazed at Devlin for a while, waiting for what he has to say.

Devlin simply nodded, his stern expression softening. “That sounds like a great idea. We can catch up properly. It’s been too long.”

Raven beamed, her hand still on her belly, which seemed to respond with a little kick. “We’d love that. It’s been forever and we never really get to spend dinner together.”

Amber exchanged a knowing glance with her husband, silently acknowledging that the tensions of the past could be put aside for the sake of family, especially now with a new addition on the way. Raven’s baby is going to be the first grandchild in the family. Amber is so happy for her. Everything about Raven’s past with Devlin is a distant past now.

As the plans for dinner were being finalized, Amber and Raven found themselves sitting together at the couch while their husbands were busy catching up about work and business. Both women were enjoying some tea together. Amber asked Devlin’s secretary to make some tea for them and coffee for the guys.

Amber couldn’t help but comment on Raven’s pregnancy, and she couldn’t contain her curiosity any longer. She turned to Raven with a warm smile. “How’s the pregnancy treating you?”

Raven chuckled softly, gently cradling her belly. “Oh, Amber, this last trimester has been quite the journey. This little one is keeping me on my toes, that’s for sure.” The excitement in Raven’s voice is palpable.

“I remember those late-night kicks and the constant trips to the bathroom. It can be challenging, but it’s also such a special time.” Raven sighed contentedly. “Feeling those kicks and knowing we’re so close to meeting our baby – it’s both exciting and nerve-wracking.”

Amber patted Raven’s hand reassuringly. “You’re going to be an amazing mom, Raven. I can clearly see that now. And your husband will be a fantastic dad.” She smiled widely at her.

Raven’s eyes lit up with enthusiasm. “Dalton is indeed going to be a great dad! He has been busy setting up the nursery, picking out baby furniture, and painting the walls. It’s been a joy to see him so engrossed in preparing for our little one’s arrival.”From NôvelDrama.Org.

“That’s wonderful to hear. I can’t wait to see your baby. By the way, do you already know the gender?” Amber is more curious than ever.

Raven shook her head slightly. “No, we wanted to be surprised. It’s only the OB who knows the gender of our baby.”

“Wow! That’s even more exciting. I really can’t wait to see your bundle of joy.” Amber clapped excitedly, earning the attention of both Devlin and Dalton. She just gave them a wide smile.

“And what about you? When are you going to have your bundle of joy? I hope it’s soon,” Raven asked candidly. She noticed the loving look in Devlin’s eyes every time he glanced at Amber. It was something everyone couldn’t help but notice.

“Well, we just got back together. We’ve talked about it, and it’s definitely on our minds, but we want to make sure the timing is just right.” Amber said seriously. She does not want to bring up the problems they are facing right now.

“We are taking it one step at a time, enjoying each other’s company for now.” Amber added.

“That’s great! Whenever it happens, I know you two will make amazing parents. You have this incredible bond, and it’s evident how much you love each other.”

“Thank you, Raven. That means a lot coming from you. And when the time comes, you’ll be one of the first to know.” Amber said sincerely.

Raven and Dalton stayed for another hour before they left Devlin’s office catching up on old times and sharing stories. As they prepared to leave, Raven mentioned her doctor’s appointment in half an hour. She will be due next month.

“Thank you so much for visiting us here.” Amber said warmly as she hugged Raven carefully, mindful of her big belly. She didn’t want to squeeze too tightly.

Raven returned the hug, feeling the genuine warmth in the room. “Likewise,” she replied, her voice filled with gratitude and happiness. “I’m truly happy that you two are back together,” She added, her eyes reflecting the love she saw between Amber and Devlin.

With one last round of goodbyes, Raven and Dalton left Devlin’s office, hand in hand, ready to embark on the journey of parenthood together.
