Silent warning.
As Demelza and Nathan drove home from work, the atmosphere inside the car was tense.
Demelza couldn’t help but notice Nathan’s distracted demeanor throughout the journey.
Finally, unable to contain it, she turned to him and said, “Nathan, you need to keep Silver in check.”
Nathan glanced at Demelza and let out a sigh. “I know she’s been acting out, but I thought she would calm down eventually,” he admitted reluctantly. “I’ll talk to her, Demelza, I promise.”
As they arrived at the house, their hearts sank when they saw Silver waiting on the porch.
Her presence only added fuel to the growing fire within Demelza.
She stormed out of the car and confronted Silver, her anger barely contained. “What the hell are you doing here, Silver?” Demelza snapped.
Silver ignored Demelza and walked over to Nathan, her voice filled with remorse. “I’m sorry about earlier, Nathan. I shouldn’t have acted that way,” she said.
Curiosity raised, Demelza folded her arms and demanded an explanation. “What happened earlier?” she pressed, her tone filled with impatience.
Nathan hesitated for a moment, exchanging a guilty glance with Silver.
His silence enraged Demelza further, prompting her to dismiss the topic. “Forget it,” she said as she angrily stomped Into the house.
Meanwhile, Nathan’s frustration grew. Turning to Silver, he barked, “Just go away, Silver! Stop with all your stupid games. And stop using this pregnancy to frustrate me.”
Silver’s face fell, tears welling up in her eyes. “I never wanted things to turn out this way,” she pleaded.
Nathan ignored her pleas, slamming the door shut and locking it behind him.
Silver pounded on the door, but Nathan paid no attention as he climbed up the stairs to find Demelza.
He needed to apologize to her and assure her that Silver had finally left.
In the bedroom, Nathan found Demelza, her face still red with anger. He approached her gently, reaching out to hold her hand. “Demelza, I’m really sorry about all this. Silver is out of our lives now,” he assured her.
Demelza’s gaze softened, and she let out a sigh. “I hope she’s finally gone for good,” she murmured, a mix of exhaustion and relief evident in her voice.
With that, Nathan embraced Demelza, hoping that his apology and the closure of this chapter would bring them the peace they so desperately needed.
Nathan asked, “What would you like for dinner tonight, love?”
Demelza paused for a moment, tapping her chin in thought. “Hmm, I’m in the mood for a nice homemade meal,” she replied with a smile. “Something comforting.”
Nathan nodded, pleased at the suggestion. “Sounds perfect. I’ll change into something more comfortable while you head to the kitchen, alright?”ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
“Alright,” Demelza agreed, making her way towards the closet to swap her work clothes for something more casual.
After changing into a cozy sweatshirt and a pair of joggers, she descended the stairs.
Demelza busied herself preparing their meal. The sound of chopping vegetables echoed through the air, and the sizzle of ingredients on the stove signaled progress.
She focused on achieving the perfect balance of flavors, pouring her heart and soul into the dish totally forgetting about silver and her troubles.
Once she was done, Demelza made her way to their bedroom, eager to call Nathan downstairs.
However, to her surprise, he was nowhere to be seen. Concerned, she glanced around the room, her voice calling out, “Nathan, dinner’s ready! Come downstairs!”
As she stepped closer to the room, she noticed the soft glow of the study’s light seeping through the slightly ajar door.
Demelza pushed it open, finding Nathan engrossed in his work amidst a sea of papers.
She cleared her throat, catching his attention. “Hey there, the food’s ready,” she said, her voice tinged with a mix of curiosity and concern.
Nathan looked up, a sheepish smile playing on his lips. “I lost track of time, didn’t realize how late it got,” he admitted, standing up and joining her. “Sorry about that, let’s go eat.”
Together, they made their way downstairs, their footsteps merging with the anticipation in the air.
Demelza led Nathan to the dining table, where the warm, appetizing scent of the homemade meal filled the room.
They took their seats, Demelza proud and eager for Nathan’s reaction.
Nathan bit into the first mouthful, his eyes widening with delight. “Wow, Demelza, this tastes incredible!” he exclaimed, his voice filled with genuine appreciation.
A smile of contentment spread across Demelza’s face as she watched him savor each bite. “I’m so glad you like it, Nathan,” she said, warmth lacing her words.
Nathan and Demelza shared a satisfied smile as they finished their delicious dinner.
Demelza began gathering the dishes, intending to clean up, when Nathan intervened. “Let me help you with that,” he offered, rising from his chair and joining her at the sink.
Handing him a plate, Demelza nodded appreciatively. “Thank you, Nathan. Teamwork makes the task much easier.”
As they washed and dried the dishes together, Nathan turned to Demelza with a mischievous grin. “You know what would be nice? How about we watch a movie before heading to bed? Just the two of us, cozy and relaxed.”
Demelza’s eyes lit up at the suggestion. “That sounds lovely,” she replied, reaching for a clean bowl from the cabinet. “I’ll get some popcorn ready.”
She retrieved a bag of popcorn and poured it into the bowl.
With the bowl in hand, they settled on the plush couch, intertwined in each other’s arms.
As Nathan eagerly pressed play on the remote, the opening credits of their chosen movie started rolling.
The room filled with the soft glow of the television, casting a warm ambiance. They sank into the couch, their focus on the screen.
As the movie played the peaceful evening was abruptly ruined by an unexpected and forceful banging on the front door. Startled, Nathan and Demelza jolted upright, their hearts pounding in their chests.
Before they could even process the commotion, Silver’s voice pierced through the door, her frantic shouting filling the air. “Nathan! Demelza! Open the damn door! We need to talk!”
Demelza’s eyes narrowed in disbelief and anger. Turning to Nathan, she demanded, “What the actual fuck Nathan? What in the world is going on?”
Nathan sighed, his expression a mix of frustration and confusion. “Silver is… ,” he trailed off, his voice tight. “I told her to go back home a while ago. I have no idea what she wants now.”
The sound of Silver’s continued ranting fueled Demelza’s anger. Without another word, she stormed out of the living room, making her way towards the stairs.
Nathan reached out, his voice filled with urgency. “Wait, Demelza, let me handle this. Don’t go up there angry.”
But Demelza, her steps echoing with determination, replied coldly, “No, Nathan. It’s time you sorted out this nonsense once and for all.”
With that, she stormed upstairs, leaving Nathan behind, torn between the chaos at the door and the tension that had taken hold of their relationship.
Nathan, feeling a mix of annoyance and concern, reluctantly approached the front door.
He swung it open, revealing Silver, standing on the porch. Her presence caught him off guard, and he couldn’t help but voice his disbelief. “Silver, are you insane? What are you doing here at this time of day?”
Silver’s eyes welled up with tears as she sniffled, her voice shaky. “I’ve been here since you closed the door in my face earlier today. I had nowhere else to go,” she replied, her voice quivering with barely controlled emotions.
Nathan’s brow furrowed with frustration. “You have a house Sliver . You can’t just show up unannounced like this, Silver. We’ve had this conversation before. I cannot be responsible for you anymore. It’s unhealthy for both of us.”
Suddenly, Silver’s crying became more intense, her tears flowing freely down her cheeks. “I can’t do this on my own, Nathan,” she sobbed. “I need your support. Our child needs a father.”
Nathan’s patience wore thin as he struggled to find the right words. “Silver, I have told you repeatedly that I cannot be with you. You need to find your own path, find support elsewhere. I am tired of having this conversation with you,” he said firmly, his voice tinged with exhaustion.
Regaining her composure, Silver wiped her tears away, a flicker of anger in her eyes. “So, you’re just going to abandon us? Leave us to fend for ourselves?”
Nathan shook his head, his voice filled with sadness. “No, Silver. I’m not abandoning our child. I’ll do what’s necessary to provide for them, but I cannot have you in my house. It’s not fair to Demelza.”
Nathan said calmly, his words laced with finality. “You need to leave. Go back to where you came from, Silver. Find a support system that doesn’t solely rely on me.”
Silver’s expression hardened as she squared her shoulders. ” Don’t think I’ll stop fighting for what’s right for our child, Nathan. You’ll see,”
Demelza felt so pained because she felt like she was reliving the same episodes over and over again which is beginning to take a toll on her mental health.
