Falling for my Ex-Fiancee’s Best friend

Alison

“Seriously?” Nathan asked Allison who was seated on the couch.

“What? Can’t I pay my brother a visit?” Allison asked Nathan with a smile on her face.

“I’m tired Allison, just fix yourself somewhere.” Nathan said. He wasn’t in the mood to talk to Allison because he knew that she was only going to start scolding him about one thing or the other.

“What’s up with Demelza’s father case?” Allison asked Nathan who came to a halt.

He hissed and turned around to face Allison with his facial expression clearly showing that he wasn’t in the mood to talk about that.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.

“What exactly do you want to know Allison?” Nathan asked her, pissed off.

“Who were you with last night?” Allison asked, noticing how sensitive Nathan became at the mention of Demelza’s name.

“You were with Demelza right?” Allison asked him with a smile on her face.

“Leave it Allison.” Nathan said not wanting to talk about Demelza.

“You’re funny, you know that right?” Nathan scoffed.

Allison got up from the chair and walked towards Nathan and she closely observed his facial expression and body movement.

At that moment, he realized he was already falling for her no matter how hard he tried to lie to himself.

What hurt him the most is that he was going to betray her at the end of the day. His face dropped immediately. He remembered that and he felt so bad about it.

“Wait, you don’t plan on winning her father’s case right?” Allison asked him the instant she noticed the switch in mood.

She knew her brother too well and it was obvious that he wasn’t planning on winning the case for her.

“Are you seriously going to let her down because of your friend? You know damn well that he is wrong and there is definitely something fishy about this whole thing. Do you want to blindly support the bad?” Allison asked.

“Do you think I do not want to help her? I fucking do Allison! Yes Hampton is an asshole but lady, bros before hoes.” Nathan said, looking straight at Allison.

“Are you referring to Demelza as a hoe?” Allison asked, feeling Shocked.

“No, that is a figure of speech Allison. I want to help Demelza but then, how do I do that without hurting my friend?” Nathan asked Allison with frustration.

“By simply doing the right thing Nathan.” Allison said with a soft tone.

Nathan scoffed, dropped his bag and left the house without saying another word.

Allison stood there with her mouth open not knowing if she should follow him or wait for him to get back.

She heard his car zoom off which left her with no other choice than waiting for him to get back home.

After driving around for a few minutes, Nathan found himself driving to Hampton’s house. He knew he was going to be home because Hampton had earlier told him he wasn’t going on a honeymoon. Though he made it seem like he was on a honeymoon. He just needed to out the act for people.

Since he didn’t get married to his wife out of love, he felt there was no need in putting extra effort into their acting.

Immediately Nathan got to Hampton’s house, he made his way inside and walked straight to the bar. He needed a cold drink to cool his nerves at that moment.

The housekeeper went to inform Hampton that Nathan was around while Nathan helped himself to a drink.

“Hey man.” Nathan turned from hearing Hampton’s voice behind him.

“Hey” Nathan said in response, extending his hand for a hand shake. As they shook each other, Hampton sat down opposite Nathan and poured himself a drink.

“So, what do you have for me? I wasn’t expecting you.” Hampton said.

“Yeah, true.. I’ll go straight to the point.” Nathan said, clearing his throat.

“Okay?” Hampton said, waiting for Nathan to speak.

“Can’t we settle Thorpes das outside corner? I mean, aren’t you tired of the stress of the court sitting?” Nathan asked Hampton.

“No, I can’t. He refused to pay me my money so I can’t.” Hampton responded.

“How much does he owe you?” Nathan asked.

“A huge sum of money.” Hampton responded.

“I know it is a huge sum of money but how much is the money Hampton?” Nathan asked again.

“The amount doesn’t matter Nathan. What matters is that he owes me and we are going to continue with the case.” Hampton insisted as he tried to dodge the question.

“Hampton , I need you to tell me the specific amount, okay?” Nathan said to Hampton as he contemplated giving the money to Demelza to pay Hampton and everyone can be happy. That way he does not have to hit either of them.

“Erm, it’s.. it’s..” Hampton said, stuttering.

“Is the specific amount of money too hard to call?” Nathan asked Hampton impatiently.

Hampton felt stupid because he had no more lies to tell and he couldn’t look Nathan in the eyes and lie further. “Truth is, Demelza’s father does not owe me any money.” Hampton confessed.

“You are joking right?” Nathan said not believing his eyes.

“No, I’m not. I only did that because I wanted Demelza to be my mistress. I couldn’t stand her being with another man.” Hampton confessed further which irritated Nathan at that moment..

Nathan took a few steps backwards looking at Hampton with so much anger inside of him.

He moved closer to him and held him by the shoulder. “I do not believe a word you just said. Please tell me you’re joking Hampton and all you said isn’t true?” Nathan begged Hampton as he couldn’t bear the sting of betrayal he felt.

Hampton raised his head up and looked at Nathan in the eyes “It is all true Nathan. I always get what I want.” Hampton said.

“Wow! I thought I knew you but this man,” Nathan said as he gave him a look of disgust.

“Fix yourself.” Nathan spat and left Hampton’s house immediately.

Hampton felt bad for breaking his friend’s trust but he didn’t not regret his action. He gulped his alcohol as he felt he and Nathan would reconcile like they always do after every fight.

Nathan got into his car to drive home and just then, it occurred to him that he might have reacted and it might make Hampton suspicious about him and Demelza. He hit his steering wheel in annoyance and turned around to go back to Hampton’s house.

“I didn’t expect you to be back so soon.” Hampton said upon seeing Nathan walk in.

“Yah, I didn’t leave properly so I came back to apologize for my reaction.” Nathan said, swallowing every pride in him. He had to act because Hampton is actually a smart man himself.

Both friends spoke for a while and Nathan left after a couple of drinks.

He went home and avoided Allison as much as he could because he couldn’t deal with her at that moment.

He freshened up and laid on his bed and tried to nap but he was interrupted by a knock on his door.

He could bet all his money that it was Allison by the door.
