Chapter 69
Kaia POV
I place my laptop in my backpack before heading upstairs and selecting only a few clothes that will get me to where I need to be.
I sweep the upstair rooms one last time, ensuring I leave nothing out of place, no memory that it was me that lived here...clothes can be reused..can be thrown away, if he so chooses.
I walk downstairs, placing a jumper over freshly changed attire. Very calmly placing a few snacks and water bottles into my bag. From NôvelDrama.Org.
There is no need to wait, no need to wait until the cover of darkness. Everyone is at the pack party except a few and all will be up until the early hours of the morning anyhow.
There was no better time to go.
Closing the front door for the last time, I start walking in the opposite direction of the pack hall. The meadow was a happy place for my wolf and I, I would like to at least leave on some form of happy terms with myself. I won't say goodbye. It will do no good.
I head through the woods again, my wolf strengthening my vision as I tread through the dark woodland
floor.
My eyes are still sore from crying, hindering my own natural eye sight.
I walk towards a pack member on patrol, stationed to overlook the meadows. He turns to inspect the small noise I have created. A smile entering onto his face as he greets me hello, his smile turning into a frown when I walk past him. He calls after me as I enter the meadow, my footwork picking up pace.
He's raised the alert already...I didn't have long. I could already feel the nervous disturbance of the pack bond...for those that aren't too busy partying.
Beta Ezra in particular is already trying to push on the mind-link with me, but I push him back.
My walls are truly back up again.
I shake out the sensation of what I am about to do. As do so I notice something shaking at my wrist... the crescent moon bracelet only given to me this evening by Hector.
+ let my eyes cast upon the delicate bracelet one last time. Who knows what would have happened if the
invitation hadn't of been sent but in a way I am glad.
Now I will never spend another day wondering if I would be pushed aside, just waiting for that fateful day to come. What kind of life would that have been for me... 1 True clarity is a gift that I can finally behold.
I let my free hand touch the crescent moon pendant, it really was beautiful and such a shame I can't keep it. But in keeping it I wouldn't be fully breaking free from the second mate bond that tried to confine me.
I unfasten the clasp, letting the bracelet drop onto the long-grassed meadow...hopefully it will be buried in a day or two by nature.
With a deep breath I finally silence the warmth of the pack bond radiating in my chest, this is going to hurt.
I didn't have to reject the Amber Desert pack...joining the Dark Phantom pack gave me instant removal from Than's dominating pack bond.
I can already hear shouting in the distance behind me, Ezra and his men running through the woods towards me. The guard behind me now running towards me as I start to move again.
This time my intent clear..I had moved to the edge of the meadow. To the border of their pack.
"I, Kaia Glace, reject my position as a member of the Dark Phantom pack and now declare myself as rogue." I pant out through the piercing pain of each word, my hands clutching to my chest to help relieve my struggling lungs.
It's a pain I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, a pain I hope never to go through again. It's like your own soul being ripped out from your heart.
You know you can survive because you have a beating heart still in place, but without your soul...is life actually worth living...
"Stop her!" I hear Ezra shout in the near distance.
I take my first step over their pack border...all colour draining from my face. I can feel it, it feels ghostly.
I am the walking dead.
I am now a rogue.
I hear snapping of bones behind me, as Ezra shouts for me before shifting himself.
I run...my feet moving the fastest they have in a long time. The last time I ran like this, I was with child.
My wolf is faster now.
I run as if my life depends on it. I was now a rogue being chased by the ruthless wolves of the Dark Phantom pack.
I had to tell myself this in order to keep moving.
I run, not stopping once until I lose them.
