Denied by Destiny: Trapped in the Shadows of the Mate Bond

Can I stay and watch them build a happy life together, or does she leave...

Do I once again take her away from Father, a Father that was deprived from seeing her grow up....she,

stolen from Father's love.

I lived alone once, I can do it again.

I can even start my own pack... Father has founded lands and I have negotiated myself to keep them. Why can I not do the same alone.

No, Hector will take her back to his pack. But even then...do I spend my life remaining in the shadows of their mate bond, in her shadows.

Is it the right thing to do, she didn't grow up with Father, she didn't know our Mother's pack, Is this what I should do...to make it up to her.

I love her, I want the best for her...and that is building a relationship with Father...but can I stand aside and let them be together, let them love another.

Watch them grow babies. be the auntie that attends the birthday parties with a smile yet mask the fact that I am dying inside.

I can barely feel my wolf, she has shut down on me. She is whimpering, curled up in the corner of my mind...retreated into the darkness.

Disappointment again and again, rejection...she feels it more than me at times.

I will shield her from that pain.

"Oh good Luna, the Alpha is just stirring. I'm giving him a sedative to ease the pain..." My blurry eyes manage to refocus back on the doctor who is retracting liquid from a vial with a syringe, before injecting it into the IV solution bag. "A sedative?" I shake my head trying to bring myself back.

"Yes, not much mind. It's morphine laced with wolfsbane. This is the quickest way to get it into his system. He'll be drowsy as he comes to, he may even slur...try to encourage him to rest as much as you

can.

"Doctor!" A nurse frantically pokes her head into the door calling for the doctor.

turn to look at her, her eyes apologetic at calling the doctor away but judging by the alarm in the corridor, he was needed elsewhere right now.

"Go...I will watch him!" I command, my voice forced, as I take the doctor's place by my Father's side. "But wait." I call after him. In his hurry he left the vial and syringe on the medicine tray next to me. push the tray aside to gain closer access to Father. His eyes remain closed as I stare at him for a moment, before looking back at the door behind me.

My block is up, my only thought is on my father right now. But I feel the strange feg through the mate

bond, a similar feg to when I rejected Than.

Frozen, standing by Father's side, I don't feel the tears run down my face and drop on the floor beneath

They didn't even warn me, give me a chance to prepare.

I'll have to put my best acting face on as they make the announcement, as Father plans the marking ceremony in the pack...unless Hector wants to hold the ceremony.

He should...I think that would be best.

Father can go, I can stay and watch the pack here. Keep the borders safe.

I can't watch that. I'm strong, I'm understanding...but I'm not without my faults. I can't watch them pledge to one another.

"Kala?" My mind is spiralling, and at first, I don't feel his hand grasp mine until his voice calls out to me.

"Father..." I pull his hand in mine, placing a gentle kiss on it.

Relief floods me and I wipe away my silent tears.

I had him back..

"Alora?" He winces out.

"Yes, she's fine Father...she's awake."

"...I was heading there, then you woke up. Hector is with her now." I can't help the bitter tone as I mention

Hector's name.

"I actually regret letting her go, she would have been an asset to me. I was worried she would steal you from me. I was worried I couldn't fight a twin bond." "Shh... Father you're dreaming. The doctor said to get some sleep. Try and rest, I'll be here when

Rather than slip back under into unconsciousness, he laughs out. A demonic laugh...a laugh I have never heard from him before and it shakes me.

His hand continues to grip mine, painfully.

My eyes dart to the doorway wanting the doctor back. Father was delusional and it made the skin on the back of my neck stand up. Something was wrong.

His grip on my hand is so intense that I have to bend in towards him to ease the pain slightly.

"I couldn't have influential people in your life Kaia. But I didn't have the heart to kill her, her only crime was being born second after all.

It wasn't her fault she wasn't the white wolf. Fate that she would end up at a pack where she had two

mates to protect her." He continues until he starts to cough, his breathing becoming difficult for him.

I remain quiet, frozen in a state of panic as he moans in pain....trying to sit up from where he lay.

"I need more morphine...call the doctor." He grunts out at me.

"Doctor?" I push on the mind-link with the doctor who arrives back at the door within seconds.

"He needs more medicine he's delusional." I repeat Father's demand, fear rushing through me for the state of my Father.

Something was wrong, he shouldn't be like this. The drugs were affecting his mindset. Making him-seem possessed by evil spirits.

This wasn't my Father.

"He's had enough..." The doctor firmly replies back

"Just do it..." I order at him, applying my Luna command when another alarm blurs out from outside.

"Doctor, he's crashing again." Someone shouts out from the corridor, as the doctor's eyes fall upon me, his brow sweating as he tries to fight my Luna command.
