Dear Contract Wife, You Are Mine

Chapter 42

May Walter POV

‘I’m resigning soon, and I need you to take over my companies as the new CEO’ Mr. Williams’s words played in my head as I stood at the side of the road, waiting for a cab to take me home. Many questions popped up in my head. Why me? Does he not have other kids? How could he trust me when we just met? Just because I’m his daughter doesn’t mean that I’ll be good to him, don’t you think so?

‘I will have my driver go drop you off’ He had offered earlier, but I declined immediately before I left his house. Maybe I should’ve agreed to it because it’s really difficult to get a cab here since it was close to an estate.

My phone beeped, and I hesitantly checked to see that it was a text from him.

‘Hoping to hear from you soon’ I rolled my eyes and kept my phone away after I read through the text.

My phone vibrated in my my pocket a few minutes later, and I cursed out silently as I reached for it, thinking it was Mr. Williams calling me yet again, but I quickly swiped the answer button when I saw that it was Miles.

“Hey!”

“Where are you? I sent a dress to the house, but the delivery guy said he didn’t meet you at home,”

“I stepped out briefly to get fresh air,”

“Hmm. The auction has been shifted to host in an hour. I sent a dress to you. Get ready and wait for me. I’ll pick you up in a few minutes,”

“Alright. I will do that,” The call ended immediately, and I cursed silently as I ran my fingers through my hair frustratingly. How was I going to get home before he gets back when it was this difficult to get a cab?

Just then, a black car kept honking as it approached me until it pulled over in front of me, and I rolled my eyes. If it’s one of those men that always stops any lady they see just to ask them out, then someone should please tell whoever the driver of this car is, that I wasn’t interested.

The tinted window wined down, and I was shocked to see that it was Liam.

“Liam?” I called surprisingly, and he smiled.

“Look who we have here. What are you doing here?” He asked after he looked around briefly.

“Nothing important,”

“Trying to get a cab, yeah?” I nodded.

“It’s going to be difficult to get one here. Why not hop in and let me drop you off?” He offered, but I quickly declined the offer even in this desperate moment of my life.

“You shouldn’t bother. I will try to—”

“Hop in, May,” He insisted, and I finally hopped in on the front seat with him. It’ll be rude to use the backseat since he wasn’t my driver.

“Where is your destination?” He glanced at me and took his attention back to the road.

“St. Joe’s street. You can just drop me off at the junction. My house is quite close,” I replied to him, and he looked at me, shocked.

“I live along the street too. I’m heading home, so I can just drop you off since we are taking the same route,” He offered, and though I wasn’t comfortable with it, I didn’t have a choice but to agree. It wouldn’t make sense for me to insist he drop me off at the junction when he was taking the same route as myself, yeah?

“Thank you,”

Liam kept talking about random things on our way home and he didn’t fail to recount old school memories and everything, but sadly, the only thing on my mind was to get home quickly and get ready for the auction. I didn’t want Miles to suspect anything. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.

“We are here. Thank you,”

He pulled over in front of Miles’s house.

“You live here?” He pulled a puzzled look, and I slowly nodded.

“Wow! What a small world. I live nextdoor,”

I mouthed an ‘oh’ as I slowly nodded and forced a smile.

“Let’s hang out some time later. See ya,” He waved at me before I stepped out of his car, but I paused when I saw Miles’s car driving toward the gate.

Miles pulled over in front of the gate and stepped out of the car after Liam drove off. His eyes were burning in rage as he looked back at Liam’s car which was almost out of sight.

“You are here…” I smiled nervously as I fondled with my fingers, but I heard him scoff.

“That’s Liam… The dude from the park, hmm?” I looked up at him only to find his eyes piercing into mine furiously like he was going to devour me.

“Hmm,” I nodded, and he scoffed again.

“Did you hang out with him? Were you with him all along? Have you two been together since I left for the office?” His voice sounded a bit louder and angrier this time, and I flinched.

“No, I wasn…”

“Quit the lies, May. What do you think of me? That I’m a fool?” He huffed and ran his fingers through his hair.

“I told you to fucking stop seeing that dude, and now he’s coming to drop you off at home?” He scoffed, while I just stared back at him putting up his drama because this whole thing didn’t make any sense to me.

“I’m not in the mood for that now, Miles,” I turned to go into the house, but he held my hand and pulled me back.

“You don’t walk out on me while I’m still talking—”

“We are outside, Miles. Can we at least go inside and talk about it?” I tried to stay calm, but he scoffed.

“Go inside and talk about it? Why? You weren’t ashamed of people seeing you when you hung out with him, and now you don’t want to talk about this outside?”

“Now, answer my damn question, May. Were you hanging out with that dude?” He asked for the second time, and I sighed.

“No, I wasn’t. We just ran into eachother and he offered to drop me off since he is going the same way as I am,” I calmly explained to him.

“And you think I’m a fool to believe that?”

“I’m not telling you that so you’ll believe me. I’m just telling you the truth, and if you don’t believe me, then I don’t know what to do about that,” I yelled at him frustratingly.

“May!”

“Why are you suffocating me, Miles? Why are you not giving me breathing space. You are acting like you are all over me… You are acting all possessive like you own me or something. Do you like me? Do you have feelings for me? Are you jealous that you’re seeing me with another man?” I fired at him.

“Feelings? Jealous? Scrap that, May. You are the last person I’d feel something for. You are not my type of woman, so don’t keep your hope high. For as long as we are together, I won’t have you hanging out with other men, and that is it!” He stated with finality in his voice before he walked out on me, and I scoffed.

My mouth dropped open in shock as I stared at him until he was out of my sight. My heart felt like it was being stomped on. He didn’t only break my heart into shreds, but stomped on the pieces too. It hurts.

I wasn’t going to cry because I had known this all along, but I couldn’t hold back the pool of tears that already wet my cheeks. He was just being nice because we were married, he didn’t have feelings for me or whatsoever. I have just been making things up in my head thinking maybe he had fallen for me. I should’ve still been in denial, and who knows, maybe it wouldn’t have hurt this much.

‘Don’t just stand there and cry, May. Go in there and put him in his place’ With that on my mind, I headed inside and found him pacing in the living room. He stopped as soon as I walked inside, and turned to me with an apologetic expression on his face.

“May… I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to say those words to you,” He walked over to me hurriedly and tried to touch me, but I stepped away from him and shook my head.

“May… Please listen to me, ok? You know I would never do or say anything to hurt you, right? I didn’t mean to say any of that, trust me. I was just furious. I’m sorry,”

“I never thought of you as someone worth anything to me. We were just married on contract, and I still remember that. I’ve neve kept my hope high for a second, you know why?” I paused and smirked at him.

“Because you are not my type of man,” The disappointment in his eyes as I said those words to him gave me this satisfying feeling. Yes! It was the perfect reaction I wanted.

“Just because you have money doesn’t mean you are every women’s dream. You might be, anyway, but not mine. I have never and I couldn’t ever imagine myself being with someone like you, Miles. I only agreed to all this because of the money you paid me, and not because I had secret desires for you. It’s not in my blood to date or get married to rude, grumpy, and jerk ass men,” I glared at him and turned to leave, but paused and turned back to him when something crossed my mind.

“If you are going to keep being this rude, then I think we would have to end this whole thing before its time. Excuse me,” I finally walked away, leaving him in shock.

“That was great!”
