Chapter fourteen
I drove home while Keir did whatever he does sometimes. What happened yesterday still choked me up.
Yesterday, the Vanetts came to our home to talk.
-
The door bell rang as we all are in our living room hang out. I can't remember when the last time we did this. Or if we ever.
We've been sucked into our own little worlds that we never get to hang as one.
Raul got up from the couch disappearing in seconds by running to the front door. We stayed silent as I observed.
Amber, with her her jet black hair and the noticeable neon purple, with her bangs brushed to the side, just chilling on the couch admiring her fingers. Dawn is cuddling with Keir as he played with her light brown curly hair as she drew circles on his bare chest.
His abs showing off to everyone in the living room. Victoria just sat waiting for her husband, Raul Crane, to come back. Her little black self, the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. Her midnight black frizzy hair shining in the light. Her pointed nose and flawless looks. Sapphire sat next to me curled up against my lap, her golden locks sprawled onto my lap as well. I played with the dark purple streak in her hair that she got almost a year ago.
Nevada leaning against her mother, Victoria Crane, playing her jet black hair with the tips died red. Corbin on the other hand is off in his little world, daydreaming about girls and blood. Who knows? His golden brown hair shined in the light.
My thoughts were interrupted when Raul came back with another man.
A Vanett.
I tense up the second I lay eyes on him. Everyone twitched their heads in the direction where a Vanett stood.
"Hey everyone."
His eerie voice echoed through the room. When I say eerie, I mean eerie, his voice is so deep and creepy.
"Why are you here?" Amber fired.
"Why, Raul invited me here so I can talk to you. In case if you aren't aware, one of my guys ran into a mortal and said that there'll be war."
"I object!" I raised my hand.
"I was there when one of your guys took her and ran into your territory. Almost biting her."
"Were you there, Blade?"
"I was when she was taken."
"But not there when my guy took her into the forest?"
I shook my head.
"Well then, you can't object."
"Well yes, but I can contact her so she can come and explain what she went through."
"Do it then."
I pulled out my phone and contacted her. I somehow managed to get her phone number. I called her making sure I put her on speaker phone.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Harper. Listen I need a favour."
"Why?"
"Because. I need you to come to my home."
"Why? You know I'm afraid of going in and not coming out alive."
"I know, but this is a favour. I'll make sure you come out alive."
I could hear her sigh in the background. It was silent. We all know she's thinking.
"Should I trust you?"
"No, that'll be your first mistake."
"What's in it for me?"
"Hmm. I don't know."
She sighed. "Don't get me bitten."
"So that's a yes?"
"Yeah, I guess."
Score.
"I'll pick you up in ten. What's your address?"
"I'll text you it."
"Perfect. See you then."
She hung up and didn't even say goodbye. I stood up ready to leave when she texted me her address.
"I'll be back, don't leave."
I pointed my finger at the Vanett. "In the meantime . . ."
I got in my car and drove off to the address. It didn't take long for me to get her. As I pull up she waited on the driveway. Noticing me, she got in the passenger.
"I'm scared, but what do you need me for?"
"Well, this vamp, needs you to tell the story of what happened at the Chase. Don't lie, just tell it like you told me. Oh and don't say a single word about this or you'll get bitten, guaranteed."
"Okay? You're threatening me are you?"
"Yeah, to not say a single word. I'll make sure your alive by the end, just this is private and what ever you hear, don't say a word or we're coming after ya."
"Okay. I'm definitely not afraid."
I chuckled. "You'll live, don't worry. Keir's there too."
"Great."
I laughed.
"Why are you laughing?"
"Because your sarcasm and how you say it."
She nodded. I concentrated on the road as it was silent. As we entered the forest, I could sense her getting tense. I know she hates being in here but what can we do. I pull up in the garage as I carefully watch Harper's reaction.
It's priceless.
"Wow."
"What 'till you get inside."
We got out and I lead her inside the home, tossing the keys in the bowl. I eyed her as she awed the home.
"Wow! This . . . This is just . . ."
"Wonderful? I know."
She nodded and followed me to the living room. Harper stuck by me as we closed in into the living room. Her satisfied glances stopped when she laid eyes on the vamps.
They heads snapped her way once she entered. Since she's on our property and our accessories only worked off of our property, which means she's at risk for getting bitten. She won't since I made that promise.
"Don't bite her of I'm coming after ya."
I sit down on the couch leaving Harper alone. Every head turned to look at her seeing she's clearly uncomfortable.
"Alright, so what happened at the Chase?" Vanett asks.
"I was chilling on the path when this guy snatched me and took me far into the forest. He was about to bite me when someone came and knocked him off of me. Then he said that there'd be war."
"HA!" I point towards Vanett. "Told ya she was taken, and not ran into."
"I say she's lying and you bribed her on the car ride here."
I placed my hand on my heart acting offended. "I would never."
"Hmm? Sure."
Raul got up from the couch and walked towards Harper, embracing her in a side hug as he stroked her side. "I believe her. We may be danger to her but I doubt she'll lie. So you can tell us about the war, or you may leave and all of your vamps will be endanger and we will send you to Veran or get you killed from her father."
"Ooh. Your father's a killer?"
"Vampire Hunter."
"Ahh, Vampire hunter. Daughter of Jeff Harper."
"So tell us about the war," Dawn snapped.
"Well, from what I know, the war will be near the end of the year. It'll be against the vamps and the vampire hunters. But that's all I can say 'cause that's all I know."
"Do you know when?"
"Like I said, near the end of the year. And when I mean end of the year, not the end of 2352. I mean year for the kids. I'll let you think of that."
It was silent for a minute.
"Well," Vanett stood up brushing himself up as Raul let go of Harper, "I better leave you guys alone."
He left with the rest of us stunned how there's actually going to be war. Against us and the hunters. I stood up ready to take Harper home when Sapphire ran up to Harper and asked if she wanted to see her bedroom. Harper took one glance at me and I shrugged. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
She agreed hesitantly and Sapphire dragged her upstairs telling all sorts of story. I went into the kitchen to grab a drink before heading up to Sapphire's room and save poor Harper.
Raul came to me before I made it out of the kitchen.
"Make sure she doesn't say a thing about what she heard, and try to make sure Sapphire doesn't bite her."
"I'm on my way and I told her on the car ride to not say a word."
I made my way up to her room. I open the door to Sapphire showing Harper her drawings as Harper sat against the bed.
"Hey Blade." She said then went back to showing Harper her pictures. "So, what's your name? Mine's Sapphire."
"Well that's a pretty name for a beautiful girls like you. I'm Sarah. Sarah Harper."
"I don't know my last name. Blade, what's my last name?"
"Sansford."
I leaned against the door watching. "This is my third time seeing humans. I saw you and and your friends in the forest a while ago. Then I saw your two friends in the Hunt. I ask them to have a talk and they left me."
"Aww, that'a sad."
"It is, but it's fine. And now I get to see you."
Harper chuckled.
"So, you know my brother?"
"Brother?" Harper glances at me with a confused expression.
"Kind of. I took care of her when she got bit. Sapphire was all alone so I took her in as my own sister, even though we're not related."
"Aww, that's sweet."
"So you know him how?"
"We got to school together."
"That's great."
"Oh, so your in the same class?"
"One," I said. "One class."
"We switch up between classes," she explained little further.
"Sorry Sapphire to intrude but she's got to go home," I interjected.
"Why?"
"Because, she needs to go back home where she belongs. Plus she's in danger if she stays here awhile longer."
"Will I ever see you again?" She turned to Harper.
"I . . . Don't know."
"I hope so."
Sapphire gave Harper a big hug before we left.
"She's a sweet kid."
We hopped in the car then I turned on the engine. "Yes she is. Sometimes if she really loves something or someone, Sapphire will claim hers."
"Wow."
"Yeah. I'm surprised she's been nice to you since the last encounter."
"Same."
"Remember don't say a word about this or my promise is off."
"Okay."
"It's just between us until further notice."
"Got it."
-
That was yesterday. When I sat down with her at lunch today, I did notice some uncomfortable sensation going around. But I trust her to keep that secret.
