Chapter 169 The Reminder from James
Betty said to James, “Mr. Davis, can I ask you some questions about the antique exhibition? The antiques here are all very old.
Is there any story you can share with us?”
James glanced at Betty and whispered, “It’s not very convenient to have the interview here. Let’s go to my office.”
Sarah was standing aside with a silly look. At this time, she suddenly said, “Good idea. Mr.
Davis, you are so nice, unlike other presidents who always look cold and aloof.
You must think it’s a little cold in the exhibition hall and are worried that we would feel cold here, right?”
When James heard this, he looked at Betty.
Other presidents who always looked cold and aloof? Did Sarah mean Kerwin?
Betty bowed her head in embarrassment.
James thought her expression was cute, and his lips curved in a smile. He didn’t hate Betty. He just held a grudge against her because of Kerwin.
He said, “Jeffrey asked you to interview me.
What a creative idea! Okay, I’ll answer whatever you ask. But I will only accept your interview. Can your colleagues go to my antique exhibition and take some photos to promote it?”
Sarah and Kevin looked disappointed. They walked into the exhibition hall silently.
Betty thought for a moment. They took a lot of trouble to make an appointment with James. Since he had said that, she could only agree, and then she went to James’s office.
There was a fully-automatic coffee machine in the office. James poured some coffee beans into it, and soon the aroma of coffee spread around.
James asked, “You like coffee?”
“How did you know that?”
“I guessed.” James said.
In fact, James investigated Betty before, so he knew her preferences.
Betty was still thinking about what James had just said to her, but James asked her that directly.
He put a cup of coffee in front of Betty, which was very fragrant.
He said to her, “There’s milk in it. It’s good for your health. After staying with people like Kerwin for so long, you need something sweet and warm.”
Well, maybe James was right, but what he saw was just a facade. Kerwin was cold in others’ eyes, but she could feel the warmth. from him all the time.
Maybe that was because Kerwin didn’t love others but her.
James said directly, “Betty, why did you marry Kerwin? For money, fame, or status?”
Why did he have the same opinion about her like others? Betty thought James was moody though he looked very handsome and gentle on the surface.
She said, “Mr. Davis, what you said has nothing to do with our interview. That is my privacy. I don’t want to answer.”
Betty didn’t want to tell anyone how she met Kerwin, which was the agreement and secret between her and Kerwin. They couldn’t even tell Old Bruce that.
She continued, “I know you might dislike me because of Kerwin. However, I came to interview you for the antique exhibition. It will be good propaganda for your Damian Group. Maybe your stock price will rise.”
James shrugged and said, “No, you are wrong. I don’t dislike you. I’m just kindly reminding you that Kerwin is a ruthless man. You must be careful in case he will dump you mercilessly just like what he did to Julia!”
Betty then completely understood why James had always been cold to Kerwin and sarcastic to her. So, he was still thinking about his sister’s death. He had always misunderstood Kerwin.
Betty said, “Mr. Davis, you misunderstood Kerwin.”
“I misunderstood him? Are you serious?
Everyone knows about the fire. Am I the only one who misunderstood him? Don’t be deceived by him. Be smart, divorce him, and leave him.”
Leave Kerwin? How could Betty do that? She always believed in Kerwin. Kerwin wouldn’t deceive her.
James added, “He abandoned Julia for saving himself. You and he just met by chance. If you two are both in danger, do you think he will still care about you, show his love for you in a high profile and even tell you he loves you? Betty, wake up from your dream!”
James described Kerwin as a nasty asshole. Betty thought that James shouldn’t accuse
Kerwin like that before the truth of the fire was uncovered.
She said, “Mr. Davis, you really misunderstood. Kerwin didn’t abandon Julia. Julia told him to leave there and find people to put out the fire! Kerwin didn’t run away alone! He was very sad about what happened. to Julia. He keeps her things carefully and doesn’t even allow me to touch them. Kerwin misses her, forever…”
“Forever.” When Julia was mentioned, James would always feel sad.
“Right, a dead person would be dead forever.
So, you think Kerwin will love you forever?
Betty, in fact, no one would blame him if he left Julia alone in the fire. After all, no one should take risks for another person. I just hate that he always denies what he did.”
Betty hurriedly explained, “Sometimes, the truth everyone knows might not be true. Why can’t you let Kerwin go? Why do you have to force him to take the blame for something he never did? Mr. Davis…”
“Just call me James.” James said simply.
“OK. James, I know that you are very sad. Although I don’t know Julia, I know she must be very beautiful, very likable and love
Kerwin very much. So, I believe that she must want Kerwin to survive the fire. If I were her, NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.
I would have done the same. I would never believe that Kerwin will leave her alone in the fire. If so, she and I really have a bad taste in men.”
James looked at Betty. So, this woman loved
Kerwin so much that she had been deeply obsessed with him, just like Julia in those days.
He persuaded Julia not to get too close to
Kerwin and not to fall in love with him, but Julia loved Kerwin so much and even gave her youth to him…
He said, “Don’t try to absolve him from guilt. You think you know him very well? It hasn’t been long since you were with him! I have known him for twenty years or so. I know him better than you.”
Betty knew she couldn’t clear up the misunderstanding that had existed for years.
So she changed the subject and said, “You like your sister very much, right? You must love each other very much.”
