Chapter 51
“He finally started paying attention to her after I shot him down multiple times. I was only 16 after all. She was 18 and so in love with him. And she was so blinded to what a disgusting man he was. He was 19, and a pig. He knew he was good looking.” Sam retorted.
“They became a couple. He treated her like crap and she took it just to be with him. He constantly complained about her weight. She’d even starve herself to the point of being hospitalized. Mom and dad wouldn’t get her help. They feared what others would think. Or they just didn’t want to believe there was a problem. I begged them to get her help. I even begged her. I even swallowed my pride and begged him to not see her but he wouldn’t. His eye was on the prize. Marry into my dad’s family and business. He was seeing other women too. I showed my sister proof many times. He’d apologize and she’d forgive him over and over. This went on for 18 long months.” Sam said with a bile taste in her mouth.
“What ended it?” Makenzie asked.
“I did. He degraded her so bad. Talked about her constantly. Made fun of her devotion to him even. Flaunted his women in front of her. But the final straw for me was when I overheard a conversation between the two of them. He actually told her he only pity slept with her to keep her by his side. That he had to imagine it was me to get his satisfaction.” Sam replied with disgust.
“I want to murder him! I can’t imagine how you managed not to.” Makenzie replied.
“I went to him. I asked what it would take for him to leave her alone. And do you know what he said?” Sam asked.
“I’m afraid to ask.” Makenzie replied.
“He said if I’d be his fiance, he’d never go near her again. By this time, I was a few months shy from turning 18. So, I agreed. But only on the condition that we wouldn’t sleep together until after I turned 18. And he was to never be cruel to my sister again, nor go near her.” Sam replied.
“It was the only way you could help your sister.” Makenzie replied.Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
“Yeah, right into an institution. I was there when he broke up with her. I had made him tell her she was really too good for him and he was just too bad of a guy for her. I made him apologize to her for all the terrible things he did and said to her. And then I watched her heart shatter. The weasel then told her he was in love with me. He was supposed to wait and let her have some time before mentioning that. When she looked at me, I saw pure hatred in her eyes. I will never as long as I live be able to forget that look. She never talked to me again.” Sam explained.
“So, what happened?” Makenzie asked.
“She went into a great depression state. Locked herself in her room. She even tried to kill herself. Finally, as it was embarrassing the parents they had her committed to a psychiatric hospital. Their “dirty” little secret.” Sam snarled her nose.
“Is she still there?” Makenzie asked.
“She is. And to this day she still refuses to talk or see me. She’s a broken woman. A shell of her former self. They keep her doped up on meds, I’m sure my parents doing. It sickens me to death. And my parents didn’t even blame me.” Same replied.
“Sam, you shouldn’t either. She must have had an underlying condition.” Makenzie explained.
“I know. But mom and dad had her committed one day and started planning my wedding the next day. It’s like she no longer existed. She disgraced them and was out of the picture.” Sam grimaced.
“I’m so sorry. That had to have been hard.” Makenzie replied.
“It was. She’s there because of what I did. I know it wasn’t just me, but I wonder if she wouldn’t have been better off staying with him? At least she’d have a life and be living.” Sam sighed.
“Who’s to say it wouldn’t have been worse? Who’s to say he wouldn’t have done something to her worse than he had?” Makenzie asked. “Sam you can’t think like that.”
“I guess I’ll never know.” Sam replied.
“Please tell me you made him pay, at least a little?” Makenzie asked.
“You bet your ass I did. Let’s just say I never slept with him. And the day of our wedding, as I was walking down the aisle, on the big screen played a video of all his indiscretions. The looks on his parents and my parents’ faces was priceless! All the super snotty country suck ups where there to witness it. There were roughly 500 people there I think.” Sam laughed.
“OMG you didn’t?!” Makenzie laughed.
“I so did! I felt my parents deserved the show with what they didn’t do for my sister. I walked right up to him, took off his ring and told him to shove it where the sun doesn’t shine. Although not that nicely. I said payback’s a bitch, that it was for my sister. I told him how much he disgusted me and how I wanted to puke every time he touched me. How he made my skin crawl. Then I turned around and walked out of the church. I packed up and left for college, out of state of course.” Sam laughed.
“You go girl! So how did your parents take it?” Makenzie asked.
“They didn’t talk to me for a year. Best year of my life!” Sam replied.
“Oh wow. So how did they feel about you becoming a nurse?” MaKenzie asked
“They hate it. Said I should have become a doctor. I had the brains and that would look good for them. But I didn’t want to be a doctor. A mere nurse wasn’t good enough for them.” Sam replied.
“Geez, well much as I hate to say it, break is over.” MaKenzie sighed.
“Back to the grind.” Sam laughed.
“I want date details!” MaKenzie warned.
“Fine.” Sam agreed.
