Chapter 54
Chapter 54
The marketing department was actually located on the other side of the building. As one of the busiest departments in Moore Group, it was the largest and probably considered the most paper-ridden, right next to the Accounting Department. Alyssa looked around her surroundings as they went into the manager's office.
The manager was a bald, middle-aged man. As soon as he saw Skylar coming his way, he smiled so brightly that his eyes had narrowed. There was something greasy about the way the man patted his hair. Even his skin was so oily that it glistened under the dim lights.
He greeted respectfully. "Second Lady, why did you come over?"
Skylar crossed her arms, nodding in Alyssa's direction. "Manager Black, this is the new market researcher for the department. Take her with you, and make sure to take good care of her."
Although she asked him to ‘take care’ of Alyssa, her actions had proven otherwise. With how far they were standing apart from one another, they could even look like enemies.
Manager Black understood what she was trying to say and nodded. "I'll take good care of her."
"As you say that, I feel more assured." Skylar didn't say anything else as she made her way out the door. However, before she left, she glanced in Alyssa's direction one last time. No matter how she looked at it, she couldn't believe that the latter had changed this much in the past few days.
Her cold and impassive words were enough to make the manager more certain of what Skylar meant by 'care'. After all, everyone knew that the marketing department was one of the most tedious departments around here. He was sure that she wanted him to give this woman a hard time.
"Second Lady, take care!" The manager smiled as he walked her right out the door. When Skylar finally left, the grin disappeared from his features as the manager looked the woman in front of him. "So, what's your name?"
"Alyssa Moore."
Manager Black returned to his desk and sat down. He then started to size her up.
As he looked at her, his eyes drifted down her body. Although Skylar was beautiful, he had to admit that the woman in front of him was more beautiful than the former.
"Your surname's Moore? You have connections with the Chairman's family?" The manager frowned as he started interrogate.
She resisted the urge to wrinkle her nose at the sight of his lustful gaze. "We're distant relatives."
It was obvious that Manager Black was no more than a suck-up. It was no wonder that the Moore Group hadn't been exponentially advancing in the corporate sector. With so many unqualified men in position, it was starting to get ridiculous.
While she was thinking of the company's future, the manager had other plans. He looked at her for a long time. If they were distant relatives, that meant that she didn't have any deep relationship with him. That was good.
He finally figured out the situation, and a lustful smile appeared into his lips. "As long as you do well, I won't treat you unfairly."
He deliberately emphasized the word 'do'. Suddenly, Alyssa could feel her appetite falling into the pits of her stomach. Her eyes filled with disgust as she retreated her gaze from his lustful grin.
'I'll show you, bastard.’ She thought in her mind.
However, she didn't say much in opposition after that. Seeing her silence, the manager leaned back in satisfaction and led her to the small office compartment just down the hall.
Even after she had introduced herself, Alyssa could still feel her other colleagues staring her way.
It was rare for Skylar, the Second Lady Moore family, to escort a new worker. The woman had never bothered to properly introduce any of them to the manager. And to bring someone so beautiful, they were naturally curious to see who it was.
However, Alyssa wasn't the kind of woman who cared too much of the gossip around here, and she had nothing to hide. Not bothering to entertain them, she leaned back against her seat and took a picture of her compartment. She sent it to Hazel.
Alyssa wrote: I'm working at Moore Group now.
Hazel replied quickly: As Vice President?
Alyssa replied: As a market researcher.
Hazel send a emoji of rolling her eyes and wrote: ????? You can be my assistant instead. I'll give you
five hundred thousand a year!
Alyssa choked back in her laughter. Hazel had never been one to be conservative when it came to her money, and this one proved just how much she could handle. Being Hazel's assistant would probably be the most relaxing job she'd have. Text © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
"Alyssa," one of her colleagues called, walking over. "The manager asked you to go to his office. He has something to tell you."
"I understand. Thank you."
Just as her colleague was about to walk away, she shot Alyssa a 'take care' look as if she was trying to warn her.
However, Alyssa wasn't afraid at all. She had met so many people throughout her life to know what the manager is capable of, and she knew that he was nothing but a useless and lecherous ass-kisser. There was nothing prestigious about him.
She was prepared in that sense.
She Knocked on the door and walked into the manager's office.
"Alyssa." The manager called her softly, motioning to the papers on his desk. "Why don't you take all these papers? It's all the information I just sorted out. You can take and examine it a little later."
Alyssa?
Did he start calling her intimately?
"Thank you, Manager Black." Alyssa emphasized his title as she reached out to grab the documents.
However, before she could even touch the documents, he stroked her hand. "Don't leave in a hurry. Why don't we talk about work first?"
Alyssa wanted to pull her hand back, but before she could, he grapped her wrist even tighter. "Sit beside me." He patted the small space right beside him. His eyes glinted under the flickering lamp. "We need to be a bit closer to talk properly, don’t you think?"
Alyssa’s expression had turned cold. "Manager Black, please let go of my hand."
Manager Black initially thought that the hint he had given her was enough to threaten her, but he didn't expect the woman to be so oblivious.
After hearing her rejection, his expression darkened completely as he pulled her closer to him, this time, with force. Using his other arm to wrap around her waist, he said, "You heard what the Second Lady said, didn't you? If you allow me to have a good time, I won't be making things difficult for you. In fact, I'm sure we could get along well."
As he spoke, his hand drifted down to her hips.
"Oh?" The corners of her lips inched up into a smile as she leaned in. Unbeknownst to him, one of her hands had already drifted into her coats.
Manager Black thought that he finally had a chance as he leaned over to kiss her. However, before he
could even get close to her, he could feel his entire body going numb.
"Y… You…" he shuttered, feeling the aftershocks radiating through his veins. He wasn't able to say another word as he fell to the ground with a bang.
Alyssa put her anti-wolf electric gun in her pockets and grabbed the papers from her desk. She didn't even bother to glance at the manager's fallen body as she went out of the office.
After what had happened in Sky Light Club, she learned her lesson. That was the reason why she had bought the shock device to shake off any lecherous man in sight. After all, she didn't want a recap of what had happened there.
When all the colleagues saw her coming out so quickly, their eyes widened in surprise.
She could only smile in return.
Just as she sat down, her phone rang.
The name “Justin” was written on the screen.
Initially, Alyssa didn't want to answer it. However, as soon as she thought of her meeting this person every day, she picked up the phone. The last thing she needed was to sow any bad blood with the Lawrence family.
"Why'd you call?" Her voice was cold.
Emmett could feel the distance in her tone. Right now, he couldn't help but regret identifying himself as “Justin” instead of Emmett.
However, if she had known from the beginning that he was actually Emmett in disguise, perhaps they wouldn't have found themselves in these interesting situations. In fact, things wouldn't have been this fun on both their ends.
He asked, "How was your first day at work?"
Alyssa was busy flipping through the documents when she suddenly stopped. She leaned closer to her phone, wanting to see if she had heard right.
He called her just to ask about her first day at work?
She closed the folder and asked. "Is that why you called?"
"Don't forget that you still owe me a meal." Emmett said, not answering her previous question. "Tonight, I'll be picking you up after you get off work." He didn't give her a chance to refuse him as he hung up the phone right away.
Alyssa blinked in puzzlement. The last time when they had met was a few hours ago this morning, she remembered how harsh she was to him. Logically speaking, the man should be angry, thinking of a way to deal with her.
Yet, he pretended as if nothing had happened.
She didn't have a good feeling about this.
"Someone come quickly! The manager fainted!"
The manager's office wasn't far from Alyssa's compartment. When she tilted her head up, she could see a woman standing by the doorway as she called for help. There was no way she was offering her hand to someone who had tried to assault her.
She lowered her head and started to read her documents.
In the end, the manager was sent to the hospital.
Her hands touched the anti-wolf electric gun in her pockets. Maybe her purchase was really worth it. Not only had she defended herself, but she also electrocuted the baldy enough that he was sent to the hospital. Her smile widened.
Manager Black didn't come back in the afternoon, so her day was actually kind of peaceful.
When Alyssa had already finished her work, she spotted Skylar standing by the elevator entrance.
She had been looking at documents the whole day, so she was exhausted. After all, the paperwork didn't finish itself. The last thing she needed now was for Skylar to pick up a fight with her, so she retreated to the side and allowed everyone to head in first.
However, instead of following the crowd, Skylar stood there. In the end, they were the only women standing by the elevator.
Neither of them took the initiative to speak as they stepped inside the now-empty elevator.
Once they had gotten in, Skylar took a deep breath and tilted her head to the side. "Is there a driver from the Lawrence family who was assigned to pick you up? If not, Henry is planning to pick me up for dinner later. I can give you a lift."
Hearing this, Alyssa blinked in surprise.
Henry and Skylar actually got back together?
Feeling her gaze, Skylar tilted her chin proudly.
"No need." Alyssa said and suddenly remembered that “Justin” had said that he would come and pick her up.
