Chapter 45
Paxton was still in shock and couldn’t believe what just happened. He couldnt believe that Sydney had just slapped him hard on his cheek. He was still holding his cheek because the slap really hurt him.
“She hit me” Paxton said quietly to himself in the empty office.
He felt that he shouldn’t have shouted at her and called her names. He knew he should not have overreacted but he didn’t know what came over him.
He felt like he should go check on her but at the same time he knew she would be angry and might want space.
Sydney on the other hand was enraged and went to the ground floor of the building. “Who is he, he called me a whore and a gold digger after he made me agree to help him. This is shitty” Sydney murmured to herself while trying to calm down. “He definitely overreacted” she said.
She sat down on a chair and tried to calm down. She took deep breaths and calmed down. Her anger had reduced and she was calm now.
Realization hit her, she could not believe she just slapped her boss?!
She felt regretful of her actions. ‘Did she overreact in there? Maybe she shouldn’t have slapped him that hard or at all’ that was went through her mind. But he also overreacted , it wasn’t professional or ethical to call her names and yell at her that way. She knew that it could not affect Paxton and she would have to suffer the consequences.
She recollects the sound of the hard slap that she gave him in the office, she had slapped her boss. Her boss! She knew that her means of livelihood was on a risk now. She thoughts that Paxton must still be angry that she slapped him. “What have I done” she said to herself. She was worried, if he saw her here he could embarrass her or even fire her on the spot so she took the best decision which was to leave the organisation.
She left the office. She knew she couldn’t face him after what just transpired between them. She knew that he would fire her from her job instantly after slapping her boss. He was her employer, no employee would dare do what she did.
She left the building immediately and called a taxi to take her home. She got home and slumped ok the chair. All she could think about was the event that just occurred at the office, between her and Paxton.
She knew it was also wrong that she left the office without telling anyone. That also guaranteed that she was going to get fired for sure. This was the end. She couldn’t go back there since she knew that she would be sacked so she relieved him the stress and left in her own.
She wa afraid of facing Paxton. She didnt know what would happen if she went back there. Facing him was the same as being bold enough to return to work like nothing happened after hitting her boss. Or should she go apologize?
Scouting for another job would be hard and who knows what Paxton could do?
He can send a letter of warning to others comapanies that she was the type to harass her colleagues without a care in the world. But no matter what, she knew she shouldn’t bother going back. It was useless if she went back anyway.
She couldn’t get the thought of her mind and it distracted her. She took a bath and tried to cool her head and stop thinking about her job and what had happened but iy didn’t work.
She even tried watching television but it didn’t work. She gave up, Paxton was going to fire her and there was absolutely nothing she could do about it. To her, they were both in her wrong. They both overreacted but it had affected her the most and she didn’t think there was any way to redeem herself except she apologizes.
Paxton was waiting for her at the office to come back but she didn’t. He was worried already, would she quit?
There were a lot of possibilities. Paxton was restless Ik his office worried about Sydney. he knew he had overreacted earlier and shouldn’t have called her whore just because she had not broken up with jaxton.
He waited in his office for the whole day before concluding that Sydney had left. He thought she would be very angry at him and wouldn’t want to see him anymore. She might not even bother breaking up with jaxton anymore.
Jaxton went back to Sydney’s workplace but he didn’t see her. He was a bit worried since she didn’t answer his phone calls too and thought she was still at work. But he couldn’t find her. He went to her office but she wasn’t there, he was asking the cleaners if they had seen her but they all gave the same answer, they hasn’t seen her.Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
Jaxton was going back when he saw Paxton on the way and approached him.
“Hey, have you seen Sydney?” Jaxton asked Paxton worriedly which Paxton noticed.
He contemplated whether he should tell jaxton the truth, he knew jaxton loved Sydney and could go against him if he told him what happened in the office.
“I didn’t see her at the office today, I don’t think she came” Paxton lied to him.
Jaxton was confused, but he had dropped her off earlier. ‘How come Paxton hasn’t seen her all day, was that even possible?’ Jaxton asked himself.
“Are you sure?” Jaxton asked again
“I already told you I didn’t see her” Paxton said to him again and left.
At this moment, jaxton was already worried. Where could she be?
He searched around again but no positive results. He left the building to check on her again. He didn’t know the way to her house so he continued searching for her. He needed to make sure she was alright.
But little did he know.
