Chapter 29 Can't Attend the Party

Early in the morning, in the stairwell, Allison looked around before whispering to Cathy, who was dressed flamboyantly.

"Miss Bird, I did what you asked me to do and cut up that dress. Let's see what she's going to wear. I don't know where that ugly woman got the confidence to go to the birthday party."

Cathy wasn't satisfied with just cutting up the dress. It could only appease the humiliation she had received at the clothing store.

What made Blanche think she could go to the party?

The thought of Blanche taking Louis' arm and walking into the party hall with her head held high made Cathy's teeth itch with hatred.

A moment later, she turned her malicious gaze toward Tammy, who was drinking her morning tea. Cathy walked over to her with a dark plan in mind.

She didn't believe that Tammy would allow Blanche, a notorious woman, to attend the birthday party.

After sitting down next to her, Cathy smiled.

"Tammy, is Blanche going to the birthday party too?" she asked.

"Yes, she is. How did you know?" Tammy replied, unable to hide the displeasure on her face.

"I saw her picking out a dress for the party at the clothing store yesterday. I thought you must have given her permission to go and were planning to introduce her to everyone," Cathy said.

...

As the sun set in the west, Tammy sat in the living room with a stern expression on her face.

There was movement at the door. It was Louis returning home.

Tammy looked over at her son who she was always proud of. He was tall and handsome, with a strong financial background and plenty of ability.

How could he have married a woman who was good for nothing?

Louis felt his mother's gaze as soon as he entered the door and walked over to her.

"Is there something you want to say to me?" he asked.

"I saw that brazen girl buying a dress for the birthday party. She said she was going to attend. Are you really going to let her go?"

Louis sat down unhappily without a response. Tammy pulled a long face and snapped.

"I don't care what you think. She can't attend the party. You know that not only our family but also many celebrities and elites will be there. If she appears at the party, it will be like admitting to everyone that we've recognized her as one of us."

Louis leaned back and slightly tightened his jaw.

"What difference does it make now that the news of my marriage is all over the internet?"

At the mention of the internet, Tammy's face clouded over with anger. She almost fainted when she saw the news online.

Whoever had posted it was trying to ruin her son.

"That's different," Louis said. "Someone with ulterior motives purposely put that out there. It doesn't mean I recognize her as my daughter-in-law. But if she appears at the birthday party tomorrow, the nature of it changes. It means we've recognized her identity."

Louis raised his chin but said nothing.

"You and she are from different worlds, and there is no way you will live with her for the rest of your life. She's just a small episode in your life. I've said my piece. The rest is up to you."

Tammy abruptly stood up and looked at her son. Not sure of what he was thinking, she gathered her shawl and went back to her room.

Louis looked up at the bedroom upstairs. The door was open and the light was on inside.

His fingers tapped on his knee one by one as Tammy's words replayed in his mind.

In the bedroom, Blanche was joyfully picking out a necklace to match her dress. Once she met with Henry tomorrow, her grandmother's surgery would be hopeful. Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.

Suddenly, Louis' commanding voice came from behind her.

"Don't waste your time. You can't go to the birthday party tomorrow."

The necklace slipped from Blanche's hand. It felt like a bucket of cold water was poured over her head.

She turned around abruptly, her face blanching and flushed with anger. Louis' last-minute decision had upset all her plans, but she would stop at nothing. The birthday party was her only chance to meet with Henry.

"Why? I'm her granddaughter-in-law, and I deserve to go and celebrate her birthday."

Louis undid his cufflinks and looked at her with cold eyes.

"How did you get this title? Shall I remind you again that if you hadn't cheated on your marriage, who would you be? Would I even know you?"

Blanche took a sharp breath. Did he really think she wanted to do that? If it were not for the sake of her grandmother, she wouldn't have married him.

"No matter what, I should attend this big day. It's customary for juniors who are married to see their elders. I have to go."

Louis looked at Blanche's stubborn expression. For a moment, his eyes flickered with complexity.

But he remained unmoved.

"Don't worry about that. I'll explain everything to Grandma. As for the party, don't even think about it. It's not possible."

His words were final.

After the lights went out, Blanche couldn't sleep. She sat on the sofa hugging her knees in sorrow.
